In this work, the powder of nanoscale cubic SiC was obtained by the plasmodynamic synthesis in a coaxial magnetoplasma accelerator (CMPA) with a graphite central electrode and an accelerator channel. The synthesis method allows obtaining a product with a high content of nanoscale cubic silicon carbide. The work is aimed to study the influence of the precursor’s ratio on the product. The synthesized products were analyzed by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy.

CeO2-based solid solutions in which Pd partially substitutes for Ce attract considerable attention, owing to their high catalytic performances. In this study, the solid solution (Ce1−xPdxO2−δ) with a high Pd content (x ~ 0.2) was synthesized through co-precipitation under oxidative conditions using molten nitrate, and its structure and thermal decomposition were examined. The characteristics of the solid solution, such as the change in a lattice constant, inhibition of sintering, and ionic states, were examined using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy–energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM−EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM)−EDS, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The synthesis method proposed in this study appears suitable for the easy preparation of CeO2 solid solutions with a high Pd content.

In this work, silver nanoparticles have been successfully synthesized using simple and environmentally friendly ‘green synthesis’ method using Indonesian wild honey as mediator. Particle count and size can be optimized by varying the silver nitrate precursor and honey concentration, with the help of sodium hydroxide as pH regulator. Based on X-ray diffraction (XRD) result, crystalline structure of Ag has been confirmed in sample with impurities from AgCl. Based on dynamic light scattering (DLS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) results, it was found that the smallest average particles size of AgNPs (117.5 nm from DLS and 11.1 nm from TEM) was obtained at sample with 5% w/v of honey and 0.5 mM of AgNO3.

In this paper, we report the synthesis of cubic silicon carbide (3C-SiC) nanoparticles by direction reaction of silicon powders and carbon nanotubes. The as-prepared SiC nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and Raman scattering at room temperature. The possible growth mechanism is proposed.

The effect of annealing temperature in argon atmosphere on the ability of Si-C nanocomposites to reversibly insert lithium was investigated. It was found that the higher the annealing temperature during the formation of the composite, the lower is the capacitance of the electrode made from it. X-ray diffraction analysis and transmission electron microscopy reveal that the reason of the capacitance decrease is formation at T  1100°C of silicon carbide of cubic modification -SiC, inactive with respect to the formation of lithium alloys or intercalates.

Synthesis of silicon carbide nanowires (SiC NWs) from an alumina doped silica-graphite rod is reported. The rod was gradually heated up to a growth temperature by passing current through it under constant flowing argon at atmospheric pressure. The as-grown layers, deposited on the rod surface were separated from the inner core and characterized using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, selected area electron diffraction, X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. A non-uniform layer thickness of alumina coating on SiC NWs was clearly observed when the doping was increased from 1 to 2 and 3 wt.%.

In this paper, Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3/graphene composite powders were prepared by hydrothermal synthesis method. X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to characterize the morphology and structure of the composite powders. As a nanocomposite phase, graphene provided plenty of charge carriers and active sites for nucleation of Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 grains. Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 particles aggregated and attached to the surfaces of graphene randomly. In addition, it was found that the sizes of Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 particles varied with different content of graphene. The formation mechanism of Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3/graphene composite powders was discussed.

We report a new synthesis method to obtain palladium nano-crystals by sol-gel polymerized with acrylamide. From thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) studies, we found PdO and Pd compounds in the xerogel sample, at 550 °C, and over 900 °C we detected only metallic Pd. These results were corroborated by powder X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), High Resolution Scanning Electron Microscopy (HRSEM), and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). XRD studies exhibit the lines from the tetragonal structure (PDF 41-1107) of PdO compound and from the cubic structure (PDF 46-1043) of Pd metallic. HRSEM micrographs show morphologies from the sample very sensitive to heat treatment. Finally, TEM images show crystals of ~8 nm in diameter.

TiO2/TiB2 heterostructures were successfully synthesized by a facile hydrothermal approach in an aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The influence of H2O2 on TiB2-based materials was systematically investigated using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results show that TiB2 is prone to oxidize in the presence of H2O2. TiO2/TiB2 heterostructure which high-density anatase-TiO2 stand on the surface can be gained in the presence of H2O2 solvent and the final composition can be controlled by the temperature and time. The investigation may provide a path to further understand the chemical property of TiB2-based materials and synthesis method of heterostructure.
