Annealing and dip galvanizing treatments of Galvalume were studied by using methods of Gleeble thermal simulation experiment and optical microscopy (OM), scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), X-ray energy dispersive analysis (EDAX), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and so on. Meanwhile, surface morphology, microstructure, phases and the respective compositions of Al-Zn alloy coating plate were analyzed. The results show that decreased rate and prolonged time of annealing treatment cause less effect on process ability of product, which all because of the short time of annealing process in continuous aluminum-zinc treatment. However, coarse grain which causes low strength, high elongation and r value occurs when rising annealing temperature. To get better coated surface, in-zinc pot temperature should be controlled in the range of 590~610°C, and height of air-knife nozzle should be kept in the range of 150~200mm. Surface layer of 55%Al-Zn alloy coating is covered by Al-Zn alloy, the intermediate alloy layer is consisted of binary and ternary compounds, such as θ phase (FeAl3), Al0.3Fe3Si0.7 and Al3.21Si0.47. In order to improve the wear resistance of mild steel products, the Fe-based alloy layer was melted on the surface of mild steel by high-frequency induction cladding. Using scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy and x-ray diffraction observation of microstructure of the alloy coating, wear resistance of the coating was evaluated. The results showed that: between the coating and the substrate is metallurgical bonded; The microstructure of coating layer was compact actinomorphous structure with plentiful nubby and strip eutectics; Actinomorphous structure was mixed structure of martensite and γ alloy solid solution covered with a large number floriform and dendrite eutectic; The coating has high hardness and good wear resistance.

In this work, a mechanochemical process using high-energy milling conditions was employed to synthesize La0.8Sr0.2Ga0.8Mg0.2O3-δ (LSGM) powders from the corresponding stoichiometric amounts of La2O3, SrO, Ga2O3, and MgO in a short time. After 60 min of milling, the desired final product was obtained without the need for any subsequent annealing treatment. A half solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) was then developed using LSGM as an electrolyte and La0.8Sr0.2MnO3 (LSM) as an electrode, both obtained by mechanochemistry. The characterization by X-ray diffraction of as-prepared powders showed that LSGM and LSM present a perovskite structure and pseudo-cubic symmetry. The thermal and chemical stability between the electrolyte (LSGM) and the electrode (LSM) were analyzed by dynamic X-ray diffraction as a function of temperature. The electrolyte (LSGM) is thermally stable up to 800 and from 900 °C, where the secondary phases of LaSrGa3O7 and LaSrGaO4 appear. The best sintering temperature for the electrolyte is 1400 °C, since at this temperature, LaSrGaO4 disappears and the percentage of LaSrGa3O7 is minimized. The electrolyte is chemically compatible with the electrode up to 800 °C. The powder sample of the electrolyte (LSGM) at 1400 °C observed by HRTEM indicates that the cubic symmetry Pm-3m is preserved. The SOFC was constructed using the brush-painting technique; the electrode–electrolyte interface characterized by SEM presented good adhesion at 800 °C. The electrical properties of the electrolyte and the half-cell were analyzed by complex impedance spectroscopy. It was found that LSGM is a good candidate to be used as an electrolyte in SOFC, with an Ea value of 0.9 eV, and the LSM sample is a good candidate to be used as cathode.

Tungsten carbide (WC) based composites are usually produced with cobalt, but this binder has the inconvenience of shortage, unstable price and potential carcinogenicity. The objective of this study was to develop WC composite with intermetallic Fe3Al matrix. Powders of WC, iron and aluminum, with composition WC-10 wt% Fe3Al, and 0.5 wt% zinc stearate were milled in a vibration mill for 6 h and sintered in a SPS (spark plasma sintering) furnace at 1150 °C for 8 min under pressure of 30 MPa. Measured density and microstructure analysis showed that the composite had significant densification during the (low-temperature, short time) sintering, and X-ray diffraction analysis showed the formation of intermetallic Fe3Al. Analysis by Vickers indentation resulted in hardness of 11.2 GPa and fracture toughness of 24.6 MPa.m1/2, showing the feasibility of producing dense WC-Fe3Al composite with high mechanical properties using the SPS technique.

Perfect cuprous oxide (Cu2O) nanocrystals with octahedron shape were successfully synthesized by a facile route without chemical additive in a short time. The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). The adsorption ability of the products towards congo red (CR) as the pollutant was investigated and FTIR spectroscopy was employed to identify the adsorbed species. The adsorption behavior was analyzed based on the microstructure of Cu2O submicro-octahedra.

The investigations of the microstructure changes of Ni75Ti25powder prepared by mechanical alloying in as-milled state and after annealing treatment were performed. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) method was used to investigate a mechanically induced solid state reaction between nickel and titanium powders. The crystallite sizes and lattice strains were analyzed by using Williamson-Hall method. The compacted powder morphology was analyzed by SEM method. The Ni(Ti) solid solution was formed as a result of the milling process. The crystallite sizes of all alloys are below 100 nm. The annealing treatment, in the temperature range of 773 K to 1173 K leads to reduction of the breadth of Ni(Ti) diffraction lines, which indicates at the increase in size of crystallites. However, the phase composition of annealed Ti75Ni25powder does not change, so the presence of any Ni-Ti intermetallic phases is not stated.

Amorphous Cr–C alloy coating was prepared by electrodepositing. The microhardness of the coating was tested after annealing from 100°C to 800°C and the crystallization evolution was studied by the analysis of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning caborimetry (DSC). The results showed that the crystallization evolution of the coating began at 300°C and finished around 450°C, and intermetallic compound Cr7C3and Cr23C6appeared when heat treatment temperature reached around 600°C. The microhardness, corrosion resistance as well as the adhesion of the coating all increased first with the temperature and then dropped until it attained the proper values. The microhardness reached the maximum of 1610HV0.025at 600°C. While the corrosion resistance and the adhesion force attained the peak value at about 400°C.

Magnetic iron oxides have been used in biomedical applications, such as contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging, carriers for controlled drug delivery and immunoassays, or magnetic hyperthermia for the past 40 years. Our aim is to investigate the effect of pressure and temperature on the structural, thermal, and magnetic properties of iron oxides prepared by hydrothermal synthesis at temperatures of 100–200 °C and pressures of 20–1000 bar. It has been found that pressure influences the type of iron oxide crystalline phase. Thus, the results obtained by Mössbauer characterization are in excellent agreement with X-ray diffraction and optical microscopy characterization, showing that, for lower pressure values (<100 bar), hematite is formed, while, at pressures >100 bar, the major crystalline phase is goethite. In addition, thermal analysis results are consistent with particle size analysis by X-ray diffraction, confirming the crystallization of the synthesized iron oxides. One order of magnitude higher magnetization has been obtained for sample synthesized at 1000 bar. The same sample provides after annealing treatment, the highest amount of good quality magnetite leading to a magnetization at saturation of 30 emu/g and a coercive field of 1000 Oe at 10 K and 450 Oe at 300 K, convenient for various applications.

The codoped ZnO thin film were deposited by DC magnetron sputtering on silicon (111) followed by annealing treatment at 200 °C and 600 °C for 1 hour in nitrogen and oxygen gas mixture. Structural investigation was carried out by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy and x-ray diffraction (XRD). Film roughness and grain shape were found to be correlated with the annealing temperatures.
