Polymer concrete is one kind of which is used as an additive of the binding material. Due to their high thermal stability, tensile and flexural strengths, high compressive strength and resistance to chemical, its popularity increasing rapidly and which is now widely used as a construction material. This paper explores a research study that has been establishing a standard correlation between concrete compressive strength with the amount of polymers and other ingredients. Hence a comparison was made between the conventional concrete and polymer concrete. As per ASTM C31, the mix design of polymer concrete is calculated and estimated the material quantity. In this research, a total of twenty-two trail mixes of polymer concrete were prepared with different amount of epoxy resin and hardener. In implementation of experimental program compressive strength test was performed for conventional concrete, polymer resin (epoxy resin) concrete with resin percentage 10%, 12%, 15%, 17% and 20% was performed and compared the results with polymer concrete (no-fly ash) with polymer concrete (fly ash) percentage 15%. It was found that the compressive strength of the polymer concrete was increased with increasing the percentage of a polymer. Compressive strength of the 17% and 20% polymer resin-based polymer concrete was 46.75 MPa and 48.32 MPa and cost was around 1,17,110.00 TK and 1,37,152.00 TK; respectively and also it was observed that by using fly ash the strength of the concrete could be increased significantly. It can be said that higher strength can be achieved with a comparatively high cost. However, the cost can be reduced by proper materials selection, mix ratio, curing and adequate quality control of the material.

The demand for concrete is increasing day by day. As the consumption of cement is increased, environmental issues arise due to the release of CO2 during the manufacturing of cement. The objective of this research work is to produce a pollution free concrete with a combination of fly ash and GGBS (Ground granulated blast furnace slag) and without the use of cement. In this paper an attempt was made to study the mechanical properties of high strength geo-polymer concrete of grade M60 using GGBS, fly ash and micro silica. The testing program was planned for the mechanical properties of geo-polymer concrete and flexural behavior of corresponding beams. The experimental results indicated that the geo-polymer concrete M60 grade has a compressive strength of 70.45 MPa at the age of 28 days cured at ambient condition. Further, flexural strength and split tensile strengths for M60 grade high strength geo-polymer concrete at 28 days were observed to be 5.45 MPa and 3.63 MPa respectively. The modulus of elasticity was higher than the theoretical value proposed by IS 456-2000. It was also observed that the load carrying capacity of M60 grade high strength geo-polymer concrete found to be more than corresponding grade conventional concrete. The load-deflection, moment-curvature relationships were studied. The experimental results were encouraging to continue for further research in the area high strength geo-polymer concrete.


In this investigation, conventional concrete was made with replacing the sand by 80 % of M-sand and the cement by fillet material silica fume in varying percentages say 5%, 10 % , and 15%, to study the compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexural strength. In order to the maximum strength was attained at 10% of silica fume. The result showed that by increasing the silica fume content, the strength of the M-sand concrete was decreased because higher fineness of silica fume content decreases the strength of the M-sand concrete. Secondly polymer concrete with unsaturated polyester resin with hardener MEKP, Cobalt as the accelerator and silica fume in varying percentages say 0%, 5% and 10% was made to study the compressive strength and split tensile strength of polymer concrete. In improved silica fume content the strength was high. Polymer concrete improved the mechanical properties. Polymer concrete system was mainly useful to fill the micro voids. In this research, the maximum strength was attained at 5% of silica fume filler added with polymer concrete. Thus the high strength of the concrete was obtained due to the pozzolanic reaction with the silica fume.

Abstract Geopolymer concrete (GPC) is a Sustainable construction material, in which cement is completely replaced by Fly ash as binder. To control emission of CO2 during the production of cement, it is advisable to use alternate sustainable Cementitious material. The development of GPC become a major interest to use for in-situ and precast applications. The present study aims to develop High calcium fly ash based GPC with aid of alkaline liquids such as sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) and Sodium silicate (Na2SiO3). Different molarities i.e 4M, 6M, 8M and 10M are used to develop the GPC under ambient and oven curing process. In the present investigation the Fresh properties of GPC and Mechanical properties such as compressive strength, Tensile strength, Flexural strength and Elastic modulus of GPC are investigated. An increase of alkaline activator in in the mix decreased the workability of GPC. The developed GPC mix of 8M is found to be the optimum for gain in compressive strength. A polynomial relationship is obtained for the mechanical properties of GPC developed under ambient and oven curing. The development cost of GPC can be reduced up to 11.25 to 16.5% as compared with conventional concrete grade of M25.

This research presents an experimental study to investigate the effect of coarse aggregate maximum size on the shear behavior of self-compacting concrete (SCC) and conventional concrete (CC) slender beams having the same compressive strength and make a comparison between the shear behavior of concrete beams. The experimental program included casting and testing eight beams with a constant size of 150mm height ×125mm width×1000mm length. Two coarse aggregate maximum sizes were used (10mm and 20mm) with SCC and CC in normal and high strength concrete. The results showed that increasing the coarse aggregate maximum size from 10mm to 20mm results in a slight increase in the diagonal cracking load and ultimate shear strength of SCC beams, while for CC beams the result was more significant. Also, it was found that the effect of increasing the coarse aggregate maximum size was more significant for normal strength as compared with high strength beams for both concrete types. Furthermore, the comparison between the shear behavior of SCC and CC beams having the same compressive strength and a concrete with the same coarse aggregate maximum size revealed that the SCC exhibited less diagonal cracking load and less ultimate strength compared with CC.

A new kind of high strength cementitious material is made from phosphogypsum (PG), active carbon and fly-ash. Through the orthogonal research, it was showed that the calcination temperature, retention time, dosage of active carbon and fly ash on the compressive strength of cementitious binder are the most important. The result also showed that, in the conditions of temperature 1200°C, time retention 30 min, dosage of active carbon 10%, dosage of fly ash 5%, the compressive strength of the cementitious material for 3d and 28d could reach to 46.35MPa and 92.70MPa, the content of sulfur trioxide was 11.60% accordingly. A lot of active mineral materials, such as dicalcium silicate, tricalcium silicate, tricalcium aluminate were formed in the calcination. The C-S-H gel, calcium hydroxide and ettringite were found in 3d and 28d hydrates. It is found that the lime saturation ratio and silica modulus need to be control between 0.40~0.65 and 4~8 in order to produce high strength cementitious material.

Numerous research studies have been conducted to improve the weak properties of recycled aggregate as a construction material over the last few decades. In two-stage concrete (TSC), coarse aggregates are placed in formwork, and then grout is injected with high pressure to fill up the voids between the coarse aggregates. In this experimental research, TSC was made with 100% recycled coarse aggregate (RCA). Ten percent and twenty percent bagasse ash was used as a fractional substitution of cement along with the RCA. Conventional concrete with 100% natural coarse aggregate (NCA) and 100% RCA was made to determine compressive strength only. Compressive strength reduction in the TSC was 14.36% when 100% RCA was used. Tensile strength in the TSC decreased when 100% RCA was used. The increase in compressive strength was 8.47% when 20% bagasse ash was used compared to the TSC mix that had 100% RCA. The compressive strength of the TSC at 250 °C was also determined to find the reduction in strength at high temperature. Moreover, the compressive and tensile strength of the TSC that had RCA was improved by the addition of bagasse ash.

In order to improve the mechanical properties of high strength concrete, HSC, several studies have been conducted using fly ash, FA. Researchers have made it possible to achieve 100-150MPa high strength concrete. Despite the popularity of this FAHSC, there is a major shortcoming in that it becomes more brittle, resulting in less than 0.1% tensile strain. The main objective of this work was to evaluate the fresh and hardened properties of FAHSC utilizing chopped basalt fiber stands, CBFS, as an internal strengthening addition material. This was achieved through a series of experimental works using a 20% replacement of cement by FA together with various contents of CBFS. Test results of concrete mixes in the fresh state showed no segregation, homogeneousness during the mixing period and workability ranging from 60 to 110 mm. Early and long terms of compressive strength did not show any improvement by using CBFS; in fact, it decreased. This was partially substituted by the effect of FA. Whereas, the split and flexural strengths of FASHC were significantly improved with increasing the content of CBFS as well as the percentage of the split and flexural tensile strength to the compressive strength. Also, test results showed a progressive increase in the areas under the stress-strain curves of the FAHSC strains after the CBFS addition. Therefore, the brittleness and toughness of the FAHSC were enhanced and the pattern of failure moved from brittle failure to ductile collapse using CBFS. It can be considered that the CBFS is a suitable strengthening material to produce ductile FAHSC.

An experimental program was performed to obtain the density, compressive strength, and thermal conductivity of palm-based lightweight concrete. Palm-based polyurethane (PU) particles were used as lightweight aggregates in creating concrete systems. Concrete systems contain palm kernel oil-based polyol (PKO-p) reacted with 2,4-methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI). In this study, polymer concrete was improved to achieve the optimum level of PU with the lowest possible density. The PU particles in the concrete mixture comprised of 1% to 5% w/w with density of less than 1800 kg/m3. The PU particles were 5 mm in size. The ratio of PKO-p to MDI was set at 1:1 and the loading of the concrete mixture was set at 3% w/w to produce lightweight concrete. The resulting concrete has excellent compressive strength (17.5 MPa) and thermal conductivity (0.24 W/mK). Results show that the PU particle dosage has the most significant effect on the physical and mechanical properties of concrete.

ABSTRAKKajian karakteristik beton memadat sendiri yang menggunakan serat ijuk merupakan sebuah kajian yang dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan serat ijuk terhadap karakteristik beton memadat sendiri (SCC). Beton memadat sendiri yang menggunakan serat ijuk (PFSCC) didesain memiliki campuran yang encer, bermutu tinggi (= 40 MPa) dan memiliki persentase kekuatan lentur yang lebih baik. PFSCC  didapatkan dari hasil pencampuran antara semen sebanyak 85%, fly ash 15%, superplastizicer 1,5%, serat ijuk 0%, 0,5%; 1%; 1,5%; 2% dan 3% dari berat binder (semen + fly ash), kadar air 190 kg/m3, agregat kasar 552,47 kg/m3 dan pasir 1.063 kg/m3. Semakin banyak persentase penambahan serat ijuk ke dalam campuran berdampak terhadap menurunnya workability beton segar. Penambahan serat ijuk yang paling baik adalah sebanyak 1%, penambahan tersebut dapat meningkatkan kekuatan tekan beton sebesar 13% dan lentur sebesar 1,8%.Kata kunci: beton memadat sendiri (SCC), beton berserat, beton memadat sendiri yang menggunakan serat ijuk (PFSCC), serat ijuk ABSTRACTThe study of characteristics self compacting concrete using palm fibers is a study conducted to determine the effect of adding palm fibers to characteristics of self compacting concrete (SCC). palm fibers self compacting concrete (PFSCC) is designed to have a dilute mixture, high strength (= 40 MPa), and have better precentage flexural strength. PFSCC was obtained from mixing of 85% cement, 15% fly ash, 1.5% superplastizicer, 0%, 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 2% and 3% palm fibers from the weight of binder  (cement + fly ash), water content 190 kg/m3, coarse aggregate 552.47 kg/m3 and sand 1,063 kg/m3. The more persentage palm fibers content added to the mixture makes workability of fresh concrete decreases. The best addition of palm fiber is 1%, this addition can increases the compressive strength 13% and flexural strength 1.8%.Keywords: self compacting concrete (SCC), fiber concrete, Palm fiber self compacting concrete (PFSCC), palm fiber
