Complexes of bivalent and trivalent iron with ligands based on benzimidazole derivatives have been synthesized and investigated. Chloride-ion was used as anion. Samples ligands differed from each other in the length of alkyl radical. Some samples were found in a mix-valence state, that complicated spin transition observation. Combination of Mossbauer spectroscopy and magnetic moment in high field (15kOe) measurements in the temperatures range 130K - 350K allowed us to establish the valence of iron ions under spin transition in our samples and spin transition temperature frameworks for these mix-valence compounds.

The magnetic and structural study of Gd x Y 1-x LaAl 4 system was performed. The magnetic properties investigated in the 4–600 K temperature range and fields up to 80 kOe showed the ferromagnetic order for x≤0.8. For low gadolinium concentration, x≤0.4, the magnetic moment and the transition temperature values are lower than expected for Gd 3+ ion. It is considered that the dilution allows the formation of substitutional and atomic disorder, leading to modifications in the exchange interactions and determining a random-distribution configuration for gadolinium moments.

The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility of x Fe 2 O 3·(100-x)-[ P 2 O 5· CaO ] glasses with 0<x≤50 mol % have been investigated. These data revealed that the valence states and the distribution of iron ions in the glass matrix depend on the Fe 2 O 3 content. For the glasses with x≤1 mol % only Fe 3+ ions are evidenced. In the case of the glasses with 3≤x≤35 mol % both Fe 3+ and Fe 2 ions co-exist in the P 2 O 5· CaO glass matrix, the Fe 2+ ion content is higher than that of the Fe 3+ ions for glasses with x≥10 mol %. For the glasses with x>35 mol %, the evaluated values of the μ eff indicate either the presence of Fe + ions or the coordination influence on the magnetic moment of iron ions, but the presence of small quantities of the antiferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic interactions between iron ions in studied temperature range cannot be excluded. The high temperature susceptibility results indicate that the iron ions are isolated or participate in dipole-dipole interactions for glasses with x≤35 mol % and are antiferromagnetically coupled for higher contents of Fe 2 O 3.

The optimized geometries, stability, and magnetic properties of cationic clusters Si7+, Si6Mn+, and Si5Mn2+ have been determined by the method of density functional theory using the B3P86/6-311+G(d) functional/basis set. Their electronic configurations have been analyzed to understand the influence of substituting Si atoms by Mn atoms on the structural and magnetic aspects of Si7+. It is shown that the manganese dopant does not alter the structure of the silicon host but significantly changes its stability and magnetism. In particular, while the magnetic moment of Si7+ is 1 mB, Si5Mn2+ exhibits a strong magnetic moment of 9 mB and that of Si6Mn+ takes a relatively high value of 4 mB. Among studied clusters, the pentagonal bipyramid Si5Mn2+ is assigned as the most stable one.

The magnetic and magnetothermal properties of the non-stoichiometric TbCo2Nix (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.2) alloys were studied. It was found that the concentration dependence of the Curie temperature and magnetic moment of the 3d-sublattice have a maximum at x = 0.025. The obtained experimental magnetic properties of the TbCo2Nix alloys were discussed under assumption that the Co magnetic moment in the compounds changes with increasing x. The magnetic entropy change was determined using the temperature dependences of the magnetization and Maxwell’s thermodynamic relation. The obtained results for TbCo2Nix were compared with those for the ErCo2Mnx alloys.

The influences of Gd concentration on martensitic transformation and magnetic properties of NiMnIn alloys were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) , vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and etc. It is Observed through the experiment: the addition of Gd enhances martensite transition temperature;X-ray diffraction analysis of experimental alloys is revealed that to the mixture is martensite and austenite at room temperature; content of Gd is not proportional to the improvement of magnetic property.

ABSTRACTThin films of lanthanum manganates doped with Ca2+, Sr2+, Ba2+ and Pb2+ have been deposited on Si(100) substrate and their electrical and magnetic properties were discussed with respect to the composition, structure and nature of the dopant. Buffer layers of YSZ and La0.8Al0.2O3 were employed and their effect on the materials was studied. Interesting magnetotransport properties were found in some of the films, where there is a large difference between the insulator-metal transition temperature and a ferromagnetic transition temperature.
