Kritiek teen die Cloete-omdigting van die metriese psalms word beoordeel deur die Totiusomdigting en die Cloete-omdigting met behulp van ’n korpuslinguistiese analise te vergelyk. Die analise geskied vanuit ’n kritiese beskouing van die aannames oor taal en vertaling onderliggend aan die resente debatte oor psalmomdigting. Die aanname van ’n deursigtige verhouding tussen die vaste betekenisse en spesifike woorde, sowel as die moontlikheid dat formele ekwivalensie in die vertaling bewerkstellig kan word, word as vertrekpunte van die kritici van die Cloete-omdigting geïdentifieer. Die data analise toon dat die ooreenkomste tussen die twee omdigtings omvangryk is, maar dat die verskille beperk is. In die Totiusomdigting word meer van argaïese woorde gebruik gemaak. Nederlandse sowel as argaïese grammatikale konstruksies soos die genitief, die datief en die inflksie van die werkwoord kom selfs sporadies voor. Daar kom ook heelwat naamwoorde in die Totius omdigting voor wat op ʼn formeler digterlike styl dui. Daarteenoor kom meer werkwoorde in die Cloete-omdigting voor, asook taaleienskappe wat verband hou met ’n spreektaalregister. Werklik beduidende teologiese verskille blyk nie uit die korpusanalise nie. Totius maak byvoorbeeld van drie verskillende Godsname gebruik, terwyl Cloete van ’n groter verskeidenheid adjektiewe gebruik maak wat soortgelyke betekenisse verwoord as wat in die Godsname vervat is.A corpus linguistic comparison of the psalm versifiations of Totius and Cloete. Criticism of the Cloete versifiation of the metrical psalms is evaluated by comparing the Totius and Cloete versifiation with the aid of a corpus linguistic analysis. The analysis is presented against the backdrop of a critical assessment of assumptions about language and translation that underlie the recent debates on psalm versifiation. The assumption of a transparent relation between fied meanings and specifi words, as well as the degree to which formal equivalence can be attained in translation, is identifid as the points of departure of the critics of the Cloete versifiation. The data analysis shows that the two versifiations share many similarities, but the differences are limited. In the Totius versifiation, archaic forms are usedmore often. Dutch as well as archaic grammatical constructions such as the genitive, dative and verbal inflction are still occasionally encountered. There are also many nouns in the Totius versifiation, which points to a more formal poetic style. By contrast, there are more verbs in the Cloete versifiation, as well as language features that are typical of a spoken language register. Really substantial theological differences do not emerge from the corpus analysis. For instance, where Totius uses three names for God, Cloete uses a wider range of adjectives that encode similar meanings to what Totius encodes in proper nouns.

This study considers the use of modal expressions (auxiliaries like should , can), semi-modals (e.g. have to, be likely to), and adverbials and complement-taking expressions (maybe, it is possible that ) to convey the attitudes and feelings of speaker/writers about the events they describe and the ideas they express. The topic of “propositional attitudes” thus overlaps with the domains of linguistic analysis known as “mood and modality.” This paper considers selected facets of linguistic modality in developmental and cross-linguistic perspective.

Language is needed whether it is written or spoken. Language is very necessary for people as a mean of communication. The objective of this research was to analyze the students’ ability in writing simple sentences in past tense. This research used qualitaive research and the data were analyzed to investigate the second year of students’ ability in writing English simple sentences. The participant of this research was consisted of 32 students. Data analysis shows that 27.81% the students have difficulties in structure English simple sentence in past tense. Furthermore 38.12% the students have difficulties using regular verbs in past tense, whereas 71.8% the students have difficulties using irregural verbs in past tense. Over all, the students’ ability in writing English simple sentence in past tense can be considered in medium level. This is due to their confusion in using verb (regular verbs and irregular verbs).

Peter Stein Larsen: “Danish Identity in Modern Poetry”The article examines how Danish identity has been expressed in poetry. Since the 1960s, Danish poetry has had a tradition of a critical focus on national identity. This tradition of ‘interaction poetry’ has a polyphonic enunciation, a style influenced by spoken language and an ironic perspective on Danish identity. The tradition is distinct from the dominant symbolist and modernist tradition, where one can observe a monological enunciation, a high poetic style and an international perspective. Aspecial feature of the tradition of a critical focus on national identity is its ability to express an implied utopia of openness, empathy, equality and solidarity, despite the fact that the poems are ironic about Danish xenophobia, narrowness, pettiness, bureaucracy and lack of engagement in the world. The article investigates a number of poetry collections by Klaus Rifbjerg, Benny Andersen, Marianne Larsen, Henrik Nordbrandt, Maja Lee Langvad and Eva Tind Kristensen.

Verbs say are often used in everyday communication. These words are usually structurally predicate in sentences.However, the pragmatic semantics of these words can be used in a variety of functions and types of speech. This research is titled verbs say in Banjar language speech. The problem under consideration is the use of verbs to mean significant in affix in Banjar language and Banjar language speech strategy using verbs. The purpose of the study is to describe the use of verbs to say meaningful affixes meN- in the language of Banjar and Banjar language speech strategies that use the verb says. This study uses a structural, semantic, and pragmatic perspective. The method of this research is descriptive. Techniques used in data retrieval are recording and documentation techniques. Method of data analysis is by qualitative way. Data presentation techniques using ordinary words. The results of the study concluded that the use of verbs means that the meN- affix in Banjar speech includes the commanding verb, giving information, agreement, and expectation. The banjar language spoken language strategy using the verb says. Includes paying attention to the needs of the said partners, involving the said partner. Avoiding discrepancies, and growing an optimistic attitude. AbstrakKata kerja mengatakan digunakan dalam komunikasi sehari-hari. Kata ini memiliki fungsi predikat dalam kalimat. Kata ini dapat digunakan dalam ragam fungsi dan jenis tuturan. Masalah penelitian yaitu makna kata mengatakan imbuhan meN- dan strategi menggunakan kata kerja mengatakan dalam tuturan bahasa Banjar. Tujuan penelitian adalah mendeskripsikan penggunaan makna kata mengatakan imbuhan meN- dan strategi menggunakan kata kerja mengatakan dalam tuturan bahasa Banjar. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori struktural, semantik, dan pragmatik. Metode penelitian ini adalah deskriptif. Teknik yang digunakan dalam pengambilan data adalah teknik  rekam dan dokumentasi. Teknik penyajian data dengan menggunakan kata-kata biasa.  Hasil penelitian yaitu makna imbuhan meN- dalam kata kerja mengatakan  dalam tuturan bahasa Banjar  meliputi kata kerja memerintah, memberikan informasi, perjanjian, dan harapan. Strategi tuturan bahasa Banjar yang menggunakan kata kerja mengatakan meliputi  memperhatikan kebutuhan mitra tutur,  melibatkan mitra tutur, menghindari ketidakcocokan, dan menumbuhkan sikap optimis.

This paper presents an attempt to explore the analytical potential of five corpus-based techniques: concordances, frequency lists, keyword lists, collocate lists, and dispersion plots. The basic question addressed is related to the contribution that these techniques make to gain more objective and insightful knowledge of the way literary meanings are encoded and of the way the literary language is organized. Three sizable English novels (Joyc's Ulysses, Woolf's The Waves, and Faulkner's As I Lay Dying) are laid to corpus linguistic analysis. It is only by virtue of corpus-based techniques that huge amounts of literary data are analyzable. Otherwise, the data will keep on to be not more than several lines of poetry or short excerpts of narrative. The corpus-based techniques presented throughout this paper contribute more or less to a sort of rigorous interpretation of literary texts far from the intuitive approaches usually utilized in traditional stylistics.

The aim of this study is to carry out a socio-linguistic analysis of the dissemination of the Charter of Citizens' Rights and Obligations in Public Health Services. We designed a qualitative investigation using observation and content analysis. A deductive analysis technique was followed, based on the "SPEAKING" model categories. The data analysis suggests a clear framework of rights and obligations has been established, but is not very familiar to patients and relatives. We can conclude that despite the widespread dissemination and publicity of the Citizens' Charter of Rights and Obligations, we still need the involvement of professionals. Nurses can develop a fundamental role in this process.

Abstract Usage-based research in linguistics has to a large extent relied on corpus data. However, a feature’s “failure to appear in even a very large corpus (such as the Web) is not evidence for ungrammaticality, nor is appearance evidence for grammaticality” (Schütze and Sprouse 2013: 29). It is therefore advisable to complement corpus-based analyses with experimental data, so as to (ideally) obtain converging evidence. This paper reviews reasons for combining corpus linguistic with psycholinguistic experimental methods, and demonstrates how research on varieties of English can profit from experimentation. For a study of conversion in Asian Englishes, the maze task (Forster, Guerrera, and Elliot 2009; Forster 2010) was implemented with a web-based, open-source software. The results of the experiment dovetail with a previous analysis of the Corpus of Global Web-based English (Davies 2013). These results should encourage researchers not to base findings exclusively on corpus evidence, but corroborate them by means of experimental data.
