This article aimed to answer two questions: (1) How is The Indonesian EFL learners’ reading performance before learning extensive reading? (2) How is The Indonesian EFL learners’ reading TOEFL score for reading section before learning extensive reading? An analysis was conducted for the data on the documents of reading performance and Reading Section of TOEFL score. The result of this study found: (1) The Indonesian EFL learners’ reading performance before learning extensive reading is in the range 66-80 (B) in Reading III for all learners (100%) (2) The Indonesian EFL learners’ TOEFL score for Reading section before learning extensive reading is in the range 51% - 80 %. These preliminary data were needed in order to indentify the learners’ reading performances, therefore, it is expected that the findings are meaningful for the study designed.

This chapter develops an extensive reading of Lawrence’s first novel, The White Peacock (1911), in the context of his early career as an elementary schoolteacher. Though the novel itself does not take place in a school, the author reads the relationships among its main characters as literary expressions of three pedagogical problems, which Sedgwick’s meditation on “cats and pedagogy” helps frame: the mobility and asymmetry of teacher–student positions; the complicity of anti-pedagogical resistance in the intensification of pedagogical attachments and needs; and the pedagogical static that can result, for students, from the competing demands of multiple teachers. Undergirding these relational problems is a patterned, thematic link in the novel between misogyny and the failure of relationships, lives, and lessons.

College English learning now has attracted a great deal of attention, but many non-English majors students have major problems in terms of English learning, and how to improve the non-English majors' autonomous learning efficiency is the problem that the majority of English educators can not ignore. Through a college non-English major students' English learning science test survey, usual English learning and English language proficiency scores for tracking and monitoring, and data for scientific analysis, and monitoring results, this article indicates that by increasing the non-English majors' autonomous learning teaching mode, the students' efficiency and academic performance have improved significantly. From subsequent cognitive satisfaction survey for self-acceptance, this teaching mode's performance is quite satisfactory.

This research is an action research that investigates the implementation of self-discovery autonomous learning using self-discovery technique with self-prepared worksheet in extensive reading class. The study was conducted in the contexts of a classroom teaching and learning situation. Self-discovery learning is believed to be effective in helping the students to improve their reading skills because this technique forces student to be autonomous learner. The study used action research model by Kemmis and Taggart. However, the researcher does not use cyclic treatment in this study, instead its implemented in one big cycle in one semester. As it is needed to be implemented in the whole semester to get the real result. The autonomous learning using self-discovery technique with self-prepared worksheet in extensive reading class was able to improve the students’ achievement in extensive reading, it is indicated in the post test scores compared to the pre-test score. Nevertheless, there are positives and negative effects found during the acting and observing phase. The positive effects are the students become more active in class, the students can explore the text freely as they like, thus, lead to the students’ better communication. Whereas, the class becomes noisy since the students have to discuss in their group and the lecturer had more burdens in finding, selecting, choosing and providing the text for the class activities. Keywords: autonomous learning, self-prepared worksheet, extensive reading.

ABSTRACTThe way to persuade students to read texts is sometimes frustrating. They are reluctant to explore a lot of knowledge by reading some books or articles. This kind of condition is not good for the students to increase their perspective of knowledge. Experiencing such a thing, the teachers feel dismayed whenever see the result of their students’ reading test is low. Many teachers try many methods to adapt in order to invite their students to get involved in reading practice. It is very important to find out a proper way to imply a method to enhance the students reading the material accordingly.  Nevertheless, songs are parts of life all around the world people love to listen. Meanwhile, most of the students are fond of singing or listening to the songs. They copy the singers’ utterances by reading lyrics to express their intention to others. Moreover, learning lyrics means to read the extensive reading. So that by posing lyrics often to discuss with makes students be accustomed to comprehending the content of the various texts. Step by step they start loving reading.  Finally, their competence to grab the message of the texts is enhanced.

Because reading ability is difficult to teach in a large class, extensive reading (ER) has been incorporated in both English and Japanese classes, and many studies report on ER activities. This report introduces two types of ER activities conducted at a language school: ER as a classroom activity for Japanese (L2) learners with various levels and ER as an extracurricular activity for learners of foreign languages. Postactivity feedback reports indicated that ER activities foster autonomous learning and they are effective in enhancing overall abilities of target languages. Authors also concluded that ER in different languages such as Chinese and Korean, which was done as an extracurricular activity, exerts positive effects not only on L2 learning but also on foreign language learning. In addition, extralinguistic information such as pictures brings out learners’ interest in foreign cultures, which encourages their multicultural understanding.

In accordance with the autonomous learning theory, the present study mainly reports the validity of junior middle school students’ English autonomous learning and explores the strategies to improve students’ English level by the teaching experiment between two classes of Grade Eight in one of the key schools in Henan, China. The researcher selects 115 students as the research subjects who are from two classes of Grade Eight and the teaching experiment lasts for 18 weeks. In this research, the subjects are investigated with questionnaires and interviews. The research results show that students in class one who learn in autonomous ways have higher remarks than those in class two who learn in traditional ways. Students are quite interested in learning English and their ability of autonomous learning has been promoted with the teaching mode of autonomous learning. From the experiment results, it is shown that students’ learning ability can be improved with the training of the autonomous learning strategies. Based on the research results and the current learning situation, some suggestions on cultivating students’ ability of English learning is put forward in the end of this thesis.

This paper aims to see the students' responses toward the use of Augmented Reality in English learning as the application has been used in some courses in some levels of students in UWKS.  The study implemented the quasi-experimental methodology by applying for the program to two groups, controlled and experimental.        Survey method along with the use of questionnaire was used for data collection.  The finding and discussion showed that Augmented Reality was well -utilized in the activity of English language teaching. However, the utilization needed to be more optimized and explored due to most of them were first time users.
