Summary Eigty-three authentic samples were taken from the mixed herd milk of dairies located in eight areas of the State of Mississippi during an eight-month period. The range of freezing points observed was wider than expected based on the recognized upper limit of −0.530 C. Eleven percent of the samples would have been termed adulterated based on this accepted standard. The mean freezing point was −0.536 C and the standard deviation −0.006 C. The data showed a moderately acceptable normal curve fit. But the true distribution appeared somewhat skewed, indicating that factors other than normal differences between animals tend to force the freezing point up. Variation between laboratories was small. The mean test deviation was slightly more than 0.001 C.

Freezing point measurements were made on 24 hr composite herd samples of milk obtained monthly for one year. Samples were obtained from 45 herds located in five soil areas of Kentucky, representing 975 individual cows. The mean freezing point was −0.540 C, the range −0.567 to −0.511 C, and the standard deviation 0.0073 C. It is recommended that, for regulatory purposes, −0.530 C be adopted as the official freezing point standard for herd milk, compliance to be ascertained on the basis of a three-sample moving average with the sampling interval being not less than 30 days.

The results of regular determinations of the freezing-point and solids-not-fat content of the milk of three Shorthorn cows over a period of more than six months are reported. The known constancy of the freezing-point depression was confirmed, the Δ values deviating generally by less than 2% and, in the most extreme case, by no more than 3·5% from the mean of 0·546 ± 0·002° C. No evidence was found of any influence of the state of lactation on the freezing-point depression, but a slight but definite decrease persisting for some weeks occurred at the time of year at which ample supplies of spring pasture became available to the animals.

This research has been conducted in order to determine the Prevalence of the burnout syndrome among students from third to eighth semester who are attending the Nursing School. It was a prevalence study; the data were collected using the survey’s technique, in a questionnaire divided in five sections applied to 172 students. The information analysis was calculated using the Mean method and the Standard Deviation for the Academic burnout, while for the Labor burnout it was utilized the punctuation of: high, medium and low scales. The outcome results showed that the prevalence of the burnout Syndrome in both academic and labor was low. The 2.3 % of students had the Academic burnout, (Confidence interval: 95%, lower limit: 0.44% and upper limit: 4.21%) with a probability of 3.52%, on the other hand the Labor burnout was of 4% among students in the shifting internship, with a probability of 1.22%. Key words: Syndrome burnout, Stress, nursing.

Abstract A survey of the freezing point value of 660 milk samples, known to contain no added water, taken from dairying areas in 22 States and 4 Canadian Provinces was conducted during late spring of 1968. The data collected were subjected to analysis of variance and simple linear regression statistical procedures and tested for significant relationships and differences at the 5 and 1% levels. The mean freezing point value for all samples was estimated as —0.5404°C with a standard error of 0.0003°C and a standard deviation of —0.00676°C. Thirty-five (5.3%) of 660 samples yielded freezing point values of —0.530°C or higher; twenty-five (3.8%) yielded a freezing point value of —0.551°C or lower. Significant differences were found among mean freezing point values for States and for breeds.

ABSTRACT Objectives: To describe and analyze the coverage profile of directly observed treatment for tuberculosis in 59 priority municipalities in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, through the creation and comparison of groups homogenized by the number of people in each municipality from 2006 to 2012. Method: Quantitative, epidemiological and descriptive study based on the data available in the EPI-TB and the Statistica 7.0 software databases. Results: The mean and standard deviation of directly observed treatment for the 59 priority municipalities of the state of São Paulo were 77.0 ± 24.3%. The coverage of directly observed treatment increased in 34 municipalities (57.6%) but decreased in 25 (42.4%). Conclusion: Some municipalities could not keep the coverage reached at some point. This coverage heterogeneity should be examined in detail by searching for possible reasons in political-management, technical-operational and funding dimensions.

A statistically significant relationship was found between freezing point and atmospheric temperature, season, roughage in the ration, breed of cow, and concentrate in the ration. Because of the narrow range in freezing points, however, the practical importance of these relationships appears questionable.

This study aimed to carry out the morphological characterization of the remaining specimens of the Curraleiro horse in municipalities of the state of Goiás, Brazil. Forty male horses were evaluated using the age of five years as a criterion. Sixteen linear measurements and 13 zootechnical indices were obtained. Subsequently, the mean, standard deviation, minimum, maximum, and covariances of these measures and indices were obtained using the software IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows. The measures withers height (WH), croup height (CH), midback height (MH), sternum-to-ground height (SH), chest index (CI), and estimated weight (W) allowed characterizing Curraleiro horses as small-sized, light, and fast, with proportional measures. The dactyl-thoracic index (DTI), body index (BI), conformation index (CFI), load index 1 and 2 (LOI1 and LOI2), and compactness index 1 and 2 (COI1 and COI2) showed that the Curraleiro horse has an intermediate capacity for speed and strength, bearing considerable weight on the back, with saddling aptitude and fast work. These results represent the beginning of the formation of a database that may contribute to future studies and the conservation of the Curraleiro horse in the state of Goiás.

SummaryThe characteristics of experimental error in measurement of platelet radioactivity have been explored by blind replicate determinations on specimens taken on several days on each of three Walker hounds.Analysis suggests that it is not unreasonable to suppose that error for each sample is normally distributed ; and while there is evidence that the variance is heterogeneous, no systematic relationship has been discovered between the mean and the standard deviation of the determinations on individual samples. Thus, since it would be impracticable for investigators to do replicate determinations as a routine, no improvement over simple unweighted least squares estimation on untransformed data suggests itself.
