Recently, the construction of models for multicellular systems such as tissues has been attracting great interest. These model systems are expected to reproduce a cell communication network and provide insight into complicated functions in living systems./Such network structures have mainly been modelled using a droplet and a vesicle. However, in the droplet and vesicle network, there are difficulties attributed to structural instabilities due to external stimuli and perturbations. Thus, the fabrication of a network composed of a stable component such as hydrogel is desired. In this article, the construction of a stable network composed of honeycomb-shaped microhydrogels is described. We produced the microhydrogel network using a centrifugal microfluidic technique and a photosensitive polymer. In the network, densely packed honeycomb-shaped microhydrogels were observed. Additionally, we successfully controlled the degree of packing of microhydrogels in the network by changing the centrifugal force. We believe that our stable network will contribute to the study of cell communication in multicellular systems.

Greater demands are being placed on the access bandwidth, stability, and delay of network because of the quickening rhythm of life and work, especially in mobile scenario. In order to obtain a stable network with low latency and high bandwidth in mobile scenario, taking advantage of the wireless heterogeneous network in parallel is a good choice. Nowadays, people are increasingly concerned about the network quality under the mobile scenario. Some scholars have done the relevant measurements. However, all of those measurements mainly investigate part of the network parameters or part of mobile scenarios. In this paper, we make the following contributions. Firstly, in high-speed mobile scenario, the wireless network qualities of different vendors are measured synthetically. Secondly, we analyze the benefits of taking advantage of the different vendors. Thirdly, we deploy the replication link mechanism in high-speed mobile scenario and propose an algorithm to remove the duplicate packet in high-speed mobile scenario. And the algorithm can also be used in another multipath schedule algorithm to improve the reliability.

A novel calcium alginate (SA/Ca) gel pellet adsorbent was prepared by ion exchange reaction and polymerization between sodium alginate (SA) and Ca2+ in the solution, and characterized by SEM, EDS, FTIR and XRD. Taking acid orange II ( AO II) dye as the adsorption object, the influence of some important conditions about preparation and adsorption on SA/Ca properties was discussed in detail. The adsorption kinetics were studied. The results show that SA/Ca adsorbent has good adsorption effect on AO II dye under the conditions of the mass concentration ratio 2 : 5 of SA and CaCl2 solutions and reaction time of 2h at 25°C. When the adsorbent dosage is 4g/L and initial dye concentration of natural pH is 1000 mg/L, the adsorption equilibrium can basically reach in 180 min at 25°C with the adsorption capacity of 225mg/g and more than 90% of removal efficiency. The adsorption kinetics fully fit pseudo-second order model. The characterization results indicate that the SA powder is composed of various irregular particles, while dry SA/Ca solid are all pellets with diameter of about 1mm. The surface of inhomogeneous spheres is stacked with obstacles, and folds and ravines coexist. Ca2+ and most Na+ in SA molecule carried out ion exchange and formed a stable network-structure polymer SA/Ca gel pellets, which can effectively remove acid dyes from wastewater, and are easy to be separated after adsorption. As a biopolymer adsorbent with simple preparation method, environmental friendliness and non-toxic side effects, SA/Ca has good development potential and application prospects.

Herein, feasibility of supplementing wheat flour with Chinese yam powder (CYP) for noodle preparation was assessed. After supplementation with CYP, the alterations in chemical, texture, cooking, rheological, and microstructure attributes of noodles were observed. Due to higher protein and lower gluten, 20% of CYP promoted the stable network of gluten and starch particles. However, the excessive addition reduced the flexibility and the chewiness. The adverse changes were observed at 40% substitution level in texture profile analysis (TPA) and rheological parameters due to disrupted gluten–protein network which accelerated the exposure of starch particles. The CYP incorporation up to 20% showed better mouthfeel but further addition lowered the total sensory scores. Scanning Electronic Microscopy (SEM) analysis confirmed the modifications in noodles microstructure as CYP addition affected starch granule structure. In general, 30% substitution significantly improved the textural and rheological properties of noodles, indicating the potential of Chinese yam powder for industrial application.

Diallyl bisphenol A formaldehyde novolac (ABPF) resin was cured with four structurally different bismaleimides (BMIs) at high temperatures through an Alder-ene reaction which resulted in thermally stable network polymers. The adhesive characteristics of the different BMI-ABPF systems were evaluated in terms of the lap shear strength (LSS) on aluminium substrates at varying temperatures up to 250°C. The LSS properties were not significantly affected by the structure of the BMI. Although the LSS of BMI-ABPF systems per se were not particularly high due to the brittle nature of the cross-linked structures, all the systems exhibited remarkably good retention of LSS at high temperatures. Replacing ABPF with its monomeric analogue i.e. o,o′- diallyl bisphenol A (DABA) resulted in better adhesion, but in a poorer thermo-adhesive profile. Comparison of DMA and thermo-adhesive profiles implied that in the majority of the cases molecular relaxations at higher temperature are conducive to matrix toughening which results in enhanced adhesion properties.

AbstractThe research project SIMULTAN applies an advanced combination of geophysical, geodetic, and modelling techniques to gain a better understanding of the evolution and characteristics of sinkholes. Sinkholes are inherently related to surface deformation and, thus, of increasing societal relevance, especially in dense populated urban areas. One work package of SIMULTAN investigates an integrated approach to monitor sinkhole-related mass translations and surface deformations induced by salt dissolution. Datasets from identical and adjacent points are used for a consistent combination of geodetic and geophysical techniques. Monitoring networks are established in Hamburg and Bad Frankenhausen (Thuringia). Levelling surveys indicate subsidence rates of about 4–5Here, the concept of combining geodetic and gravimetric techniques to monitor and characterise geological processes on and below the Earth's surface is exemplary discussed for the focus area Bad Frankenhausen. For the different methods (levelling, GNSS, relative/absolute gravimetry) stable network results at identical points are obtained by the first campaigns, i.e., the results are generally in agreement.
