In the present paper, the authors analyse attitudes of students (N=91) studying at the Department of English Language and Literature toward distance learning launched at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo, during the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. The study is designed as action research containing elements of both qualitative and quantitative research. The key instrument for collecting data was a survey designed by the authors of the present paper. The Google Forms survey was delivered to 1st-5th year students at the Department of English Language and Literature by e-mail. The collected data were processed by means of SPSS software (descriptive statistics). Results of the analysis show that students do not consider “distance learning’’ to be of better quality when compared to “learning in the classroom’’ but also that students, in the period of returning to a “new normal’’, openly express their preference for blended learning. At the same time, results of the analysis reveal that it is necessary to modernise teaching practices by means of introducing a more representative version of the distance learning system that would not only significantly improve the quality of the teaching practices, but also assist in maintaining competitiveness of the Faculty of Philosophy as a higher education institution.

This study aimed to investigate Jordanian university students’ attitudes toward online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns, shed light on the obstacles students encounter in online learning, and suggest possible solutions. A questionnaire designed by the researchers was used to elicit responses from a study sample consisting of 195 students from the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of Jordan – Aqaba. As this is an attitudinal study, the survey questionnaire was designed to elicit student responses on the following domains: gender, seniority level, socioeconomic status, training and orientation for using eLearning platforms, and their attitudes, whether positive or negative, toward online learning. Results of this quantitative research showed that student attitudes toward online learning are generally negative. The majority of the respondents reported that they prefer face-to-face classroom instruction over online learning because it gives them direct contact with the instructors. Furthermore, results revealed statistically significant differences amongst students attributed to their gender, whereas no differences were found with regards to their seniority of study, socioeconomic status, and the eLearning platform they prefer to use. The study concludes by proposing some pedagogical recommendations.

The online form of implementation of educational programs in a higher education institution should not affect the quality of competencies of a future graduate. For future successful employment and professional activity, an IT graduate should have skills and work styles associated with the application of modern software development technologies underlying the agile methodology. The goal of the study is to present an approach to introducing the ideas of the agile methodology into the educational process of a future IT specialist in the context of distance learning, comparing the possibilities of implementing two popular technologies of agile methodology – scrum and kanban, using the example of the Moodle distance learning system. To achieve this goal, the authors applied the following methods: the collection and analysis of scientific publications related to the study of features of agile technologies; the possibilities of their application in the educational process; monitoring the work of students according to agile methodology approaches when using the Moodle distance learning system. The analysis and observation of the students’ work allowed concluding on the possibility of introducing the methodology into the educational process carried out remotely using a distance learning system. The authors formulated recommendations on the application of distance learning tools for introducing the agile technologies in the learning process, in particular, the concept of distance course using the example of the Moodle online learning system, variants of the course objects settings, ways of evaluating the students’ work. The study shows that Moodle distance learning system acts as a virtual space where students interact as team members, implement project activities according to scrum and kanban approaches, using such course elements as a checklist, assignment, forum, and chat.

The article reveals the peculiarities of development of distance learning system for law-enforcement higher educational institutions in post-pandemic period and provides generalization of distance learning possibilities on the example of the higher education institution of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. The authors indicate that the border guard service should pay more attention to implementation of a holistic and logical system of distance learning both of officers and junior staff. The results of the survey showed that the distance form of training of cadets under restrictions of pandemic becomes one of the main forms of training at the law-enforcement higher educational institution. Among the major drawbacks of the currently functioning distance learning system are the technical capabilities of currently used ICT, web-platforms and application, their stability and quality of communication, time of uninterrupted sessions, limitations on the number of participants and feedback from the audience, the number of equipped workplaces, possibility of organizing mobile learning.

The article presents the experience of mass organization of distance learning in organizations of secondary general and vocational education in March—May 2020 in connection with the difficult epidemiological situation in Russia. The possibilities of the 1C:Education system for organizing the educational process in a distance format, the peculiarities of organizing distance interaction in schools and colleges are considered, the results of using the system are summarized, examples of the successful use of the system in specific educational organizations are given. Based on the questionnaire survey of users, a number of capabilities of the 1C:Education system have been identified, which are essential for the full-fledged transfer of the educational process from full-time to distance learning. The nature and frequency of the use of electronic educational resources in various general education subjects in schools and colleges are analyzed, the importance of the presence in the distance learning system not only of a digital library of ready-made educational materials, but also of tools for creating author’s content is assessed. On the basis of an impersonal analysis of user actions in the system, a number of problems were identified that teachers and students faced in the process of an emergency transition to distance learning.

The article considers an issue of information security of the distance education systems. It analyzes the functions and architecture of the typical distance education system. With considering the requirements of information security it also discusses the university information system for solving the distance learning problems. The author defines valuable assets and information resources and describes the existing security threats. The subjects of interaction in the distance learning mode are presented. There is a consideration of the principal directions of the university’s activity in the distance learning system, requiring constant monitoring of information security. A threat model is worked out and the main security vulnerabilities are highlighted. The analysis of the causes and consequences of information security violation in the distance learning system is carried out and most vulnerable and critical nodes were identified. The hardware and software requirements for the remote mode work are regarded. A recommended list of hardware and software tools that ensure compliance with safety requirements is presented. The major lines of protection for distance learning systems are highlighted. The article proves the necessity of conducting a regular security assessment as a means for monitoring an effectiveness of the protection system.

The urgency of the task of developing tools for neural network analysis of biometric parameters for recognizing the personality and emotions of students of the distance learning system has been substantiated. The necessity of formalizing the architectural solutions used in the creation of software for neural network analysis of biometric parameters is shown. As a result of the research carried out in terms of the UML modeling language, the architecture of the neural network analyzer of biometric parameters has been developed. Diagrams of options for using the neural network analyzer have been developed both for recognizing the personality of a student when entering the system, and for recognizing the personality and emotions of a student in the process of his interaction with the distance learning system. Also, based on the developed use case diagrams, a structural diagram of the analyzer is built. The necessity of including subsystems for determining the functional parameters of the analyzer, registration of biometric parameters, neural network analysis of registered biometric parameters, personality recognition and emotion recognition is substantiated. An original feature of the proposed architectural solutions is the introduction into the neural network analysis subsystem of an integrated analysis module designed to summarize the results of neural network analysis separately for each of the biometric parameters. A rule for making an integrated decision has been developed, taking into account the results of a neural network analysis of each of the registered biometric parameters and the corresponding weight coefficients determined by expert evaluation. The introduction of the integrated analysis module makes it possible to increase the accuracy of recognition of emotions and personality of a student, since the final classification is realized through a generalized assessment of several guaranteed significant biometric parameters. In addition, the use of this module makes it possible to increase the reliability of the neural network analyzer in case of difficulties associated with the registration of a particular biometric parameter. It has been established that the decision-making rule can be improved by using one or more neural networks in the integrated analysis module, designed to generalize the results of the neural network analysis of all registered biometric parameters. It is proposed to correlate the directions of further research with the development of appropriate neural network solutions.

В статье изложены инновационные методы контроля знаний и компетенций студентов – составление итогового портфолио со сравнительными таблицами, написание учебной истории болезни и моделирование клинической ситуации на основе кейс-метода, рефлексивная практика после онлайн-лекции, примененные на кафедре клинической иммунологии и аллергологии с курсом ФПК и ПК ВГМУ в условиях управляемой самостоятельной работы студентов с использованием системы дистанционного обучения Moodle. Цель исследования – разработать и применить эффективные методы контроля знаний и компетенций студентов в процессе преподавания дисциплины «Клиническая иммунология, аллергология» в условиях управляемой самостоятельной работы с использованием системы дистанционного обучения Moodle. Результаты. Разработан и применен метод оценки уровня знаний студентов и способности к критическому анализу большого количества учебного материала с помощью составления обобщающих таблиц и формирования итогового портфолио по всем занятиям цикла «Клиническая иммунология, аллергология». Предложен метод промежуточного контроля в виде рефлексивной дискуссии после онлайн-лекций. В качестве определения сформированности профессиональных компетенций рекомендовано использовать кейс-метод для всестороннего анализа клинического случая в контексте реальной медицинской практики с обязательной формулировкой диагноза, разработкой лечения и рекомендаций при выписке, а также обратный кейс-метод с моделированием студентами клинической ситуации. Педагогическому тестированию отведена роль дополнительного элемента контроля знаний по дисциплине «Клиническая иммунология, аллергология». Заключение. На кафедре клинической иммунологии и аллергологии с курсом ФПК и ПК ВГМУ успешно разработаны и применены эффективные методы контроля знаний и компетенций студентов по дисциплине «Клиническая иммунология, аллергология», а именно: составление итогового портфолио со сравнительными таблицами, написание учебной истории болезни и моделирование клинической ситуации с применением кейс-метода, рефлексивная дискуссия после онлайн-лекции, педагогическое тестирование.
