This research was conducted based on the background of the problem of teacher-centered learning processes, this is what makes students less active and look passive in the classroom, therefore students have difficulty absorbing the material and causing students' reading skills to understand the story text is less. Through this research the researcher hopes to be able to improve students' reading comprehension skills, especially in learning Indonesian in class III SDN 05 Pemuar. This research is an experimental study using thePretest-Posttest One-Group Design. The population in this study included all third gradestudents of SDN 05 PEMUAR with a sample of 14 people consisting of 9 male students and 5 female students. The sample used in this study is a saturated sample, therefore all members of the population are sampled. The preliminary data of this study usedavaluepretest with an average of 61.75 and an averagescore of posttest70.35.Based on the results of research tests of reading comprehension of students' understanding shows the value of t count of 49.571 and t table of 42.048 so that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted because t count from t table. So it can be concludedthat with the Method it Question Read Recited Review Survey (SQ3R) has been proven effective against students' reading comprehension abilities, especially in class III SDN 05 Pemuar. Theresultsposttest show students' reading comprehension ability using the Survey Question Read Recited Review Method (SQ3R) higher than before being treated with the Method Question Read Recited Review Survey (SQ3R).Keywords: comprehension reading skills, Indonesian and Question Read Recited ReviewMethod(SQ3R).    Abstrak:Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahuiperbedaankemampuanmembacapemahamanpada matapelajaran Bahasa Indonesiasebelum dan sesudahmenggunakan MetodeSurvey Question Read Recited Review (SQ3R) pada siswa SDN 05 PEMUAR. The purposes of this research was to analyzing the development of reading interest, critical thinking skills and reading comprehension skills by applying SQ3R (Survey, Question, Read, Recite and Review). This research method is Classroom Action Research, data collection was done through observation, written tests, interviews and field notes which were analyzed descriptive qualitative. There was an increase in student's interest in reading in Cycle I by 50% to 100% in Cycle II and III. In students' critical thinking skills, namely from 87.5% in Cycle I to 100% in Cycle II and III. Student reading comprehension ability also show improvement, in Cycle I was 67.4; Cycle II was 84.2 and Cycle III was 88.6. From student interviews and questionnaires showed that students agreed through the application of SQ3R to increase students' reading interest, critical thinking skills and reading comprehension skills.

Reading comprehension is a reading activity that aims to obtain adequate understanding and interpretation of the meanings contained in written symbols. the reading process is divided into three stages, such as pre-reading, reading, and post-reading. But the reality is that many of the students still experience difficulties in reading comprehension learning. Therefore, researchers applied an Accelerated Learning approach to improve students' reading comprehension skills. The results showed, the assessment of the process of reading students' skills for each assessment indicator was in the value range of 78.35% to 87.35% which was included in the good and very good category. While the results of the assessment of the overall reading skills process were 82.32% with a very good category. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that learning based on the accelerated learning approach can enhance reading comprehension skills of students in class V of the Primary school of 011 Air Emas, Singingi District.

The present study aimed at exploring the effect of a Strategies-Based Instruction (SBI) on improving male and female students' reading comprehension ability in an ESP context. The main assumption was that SBI would be more successful in developing reading comprehension of females compared to male students through using effective strategies and skills delivered in SBI method. The participants, within the age range of 18-22, included 24 male and 26 female students who were an intact experimental group. Following a pretest, treatment (15 weeks, 2 sessions per week), and a posttest, the obtained data was analyzed using ANOVA to examine the effects of the independent variables, namely, method of instruction and gender. The results of the analysis showed that although the teaching intervention had a significant effect on students' reading comprehension, gender’s effect was not significant. The findings are discussed in relation to effective reading comprehension instruction through the use of cognitive and metacognitive strategies in ESP teaching contexts.

AbstractTranslators and language teachers are cultural and intercultural mediators, facilitators of intercultural transfers and border crossings between cultures. The abilities to understand, interpret, and produce written texts appropriately play an essential role in these professions. In the process of translation, source-language texts have to be understood and translated using the most appropriate target-language equivalents. Reading skills and awareness of reading strategies are equally essential for language teachers, who are expected to guide language learners in developing these skills. In this study, we intend to examine the reading habits and reading strategies used by a group of Hungarian translator and teacher trainees when dealing with texts written in English. Their reading comprehension performance will be assessed with a test and compared with their ability to translate English texts into Hungarian. Based on the literature and our personal experience in language teaching, teacher training, and translator training, we assume that students preparing for the above mentioned professions have a well-developed reading strategy awareness and that their reading comprehension skills in English strongly influence the ability to translate texts into their native language.

This study examined how vocabulary, syntactic knowledge, and orthographic knowledge are related to comprehension monitoring and whether comprehension monitoring mediates the relations between these language skills and reading comprehension. Eighty-nine Chinese children were assessed on their vocabulary, syntactic knowledge, orthographic knowledge, and comprehension monitoring in Grade 1. Their reading comprehension skills were assessed in Grade 1 and Grade 3. Results showed that in Grade 1, comprehension monitoring mediated the relations between vocabulary and syntactic knowledge and reading comprehension. For Grade 3 reading comprehension, syntactic knowledge in Grade 1 was the only significant predictor. These findings indicate that multiple language skills make direct and indirect contributions via comprehension monitoring to Chinese reading comprehension, and the relations would change as children’s reading skills develop.

Abstract Children with autism often exhibit difficulties with reading comprehension. Recent studies have demonstrated positive outcomes for typical learners from the internet-based reading comprehension program, Headsprout Reading Comprehension®. In the present study, a preliminary evaluation of HRC was conducted with six children with autism. The primary aim was to investigate whether it would be feasible to use HRC with children with autism and whether any adaptations to the standard teaching procedure and extra support would be needed. A secondary aim was to investigate the potential of HRC to improve reading comprehension skills. The study used a multiple case series design with six children. Results are discussed with reference to increased reading comprehension ability in the six children and the practical strategies required to support children with autism so that they may benefit from the program.

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the reading comprehension skills of the descriptive text and the writing skills of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Bonjol. This research used quantitative research using a descriptive correlational design. In this study, there were two variables, namely the X variable and the Y variable. The X variable was the reading comprehension skill, while the Y variable was the description text writing skill. The research instruments were objective tests and performance tests. The data of this study are the results of the reading comprehension skills test and the results of the descriptive text writing skills test. The test results were compared using the t-test formula to determine the correlation between the reading comprehension skills and the descriptive text writing skills of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Bonjol. There are three results in this study. First, the reading skills of grade VII students of SMP Negeri 1 Bonjol are in good qualifications with an average score of 81.65. Second, the writing skills of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Bonjol are in good qualifications with an average score of 78.58. Third, based on the results of the t-test, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between comprehension reading skills and the descriptive text writing skills of seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Bonjol.
