: Junk food are very popular in modern society and their harmful effects cannot be neglected. The present study was conducted with an objective to assess the Effect of Educational Intervention on Awareness regarding Health Hazards of Junk food consumption among Engineering Students. Pre-experimental one group pretest and post-test research design was adopted to accomplish the objectives. Purposive sampling technique was used to select samples involving forty (40) B. Tech Mechanical engineering 1 year students. The pre-test and post-test assessment of awareness regarding health hazards of junk food consumption was carried out using the structured awareness questionnaire. The obtained data was analysed and interpreted using descriptive and inferential statistics. The present study findings showed that mean (±SD) pre-test and post-test knowledge score was 21.4 (± 3.44) and 24.0 (±2.42) respectively. The calculated ‘t’ value was 5.06 which is highly significant at 0.05 level and revealed the effectiveness of educational intervention in improving the awareness regarding health hazards of Junk Food consumption. Also, There was significant association between the pre-test knowledge score with Family’s monthly Income and Monthly Pocket money of participants at 0.05 level of significance.The studyconcluded that educational intervention has positive impact on improving the awareness regarding Health Hazards of Junk Food consumption.

Background: Junk food is a term for food that is of little nutritional value and often high in fat, sugar, salt, and calories. Junk food can have a detrimental effect on levels of energy and mental well-being. Consumption of large quantities of junk food is associated with a drastic reduction in the consumption of nutritious foods such as milk, fruits and vegetables. High revenues, rapid urbanization, free home delivery, mouthwatering commercials and foreign cuisines have led to growing trend in the consumption of junk food. Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess the level of knowledge, prevalence, practice and influencing factors of junk food consumption among students of educational institutions of Kathmandu, Nepal. Methods: A Descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted. Total 367 participants were selected from educational institutions of Kathmandu using simple random sampling technique. Data were collected using Semi-structured Questionnaire by self-administered method. Findings: Around half (45.2%) of the respondent had poor level of knowledge, and only 19.1% of respondents had adequate knowledge regarding harmful effects of junk food consumption.   All of the respondents had practice of junk food consumption. Research implications: The outcome of this study provides detailed understanding of not only knowledge, prevalence and practice of junk food consumption among students but also the reasons and influencing factors for students to consume junk food regardless of their knowledge on harmful effect and complications of junk food consumption. Practical Implications: The findings of this paper seeks to urge the concerned authorities to admit the fact that, the course with small topic regarding effects of junk food consumption alone cannot minimize the practice of junk food consumption among students, banning the advertisement which encourage the students to consume junk food is very crucial and to conduct the awareness programme regarding harmful effect of junk food consumption  among all level of students through media and course work is necessary  to prevent  malnourishment and complications of junk food among students. Originality: This is the first survey regarding knowledge and practice on junk food consumption among students of educational institutions, and the area (educational institutions) were selected to collect the data from the students of various background (age, education level, ethnicity etc.) at same time, so that the results can be generalized among student.

Consuming junk food is increasing in a very rapid way nowadays. Junk food represents food which is quickly prepared and eaten outside the home. This type of food is easily and quickly prepared, however, it refers mainly to the food that is prepared from precooked or preheated ingredients then packed and sold in stores or restaurants. The adolescents prefer to have junk food rather homemade cooked food, because it is available readily, in their ngertips (online), and it is been served quickly, tasty and deliciously prepared were available within fraction of seconds. Therefore the youngsters are fond of junk food consumption without knowing its impact on health. The present study attempted to know the perception on junk food consumption among college students in Mysore city. The convenient sampling method was adopted to collect data from six colleges covering 128 students. Descriptive research design has been chosen to examine the knowledge and perception on junk food. In the result it is found that 93% respondents prefer to consume junk food, 64% respondents preferred evening, and 74% respondents favoured street food.

Background: With advent of advancement in technologies and change in people’s life style, the amount of E-waste (electronic waste) generated is increasing drastically every year, Mismanagement of these E-waste leads to diminishing natural resources, causing irreparable damage to the environment and health of the people. When it comes to the reduction, the onus is on both the consumer and the producer. Proper awareness on the health hazards and disposal practice of E waste plays a crucial role in curbing this problem. The objectives of the study were to assess the E-waste segregation and disposal practice at various levels and to assess the knowledge about Proper disposal and health hazards of E-waste. Methods: A community based crossed sectional study was conducted among 120 randomly selected individuals (distribution, consumer and waste collection level) for a period of three months in the urban field practice area of Bangalore Medical College & Research Institute. Data regarding their knowledge and practice on E-waste disposal and its hazards has been collected using semi structured questionnaire and analysed using SPSS 23.0. Results: Knowledge about disposal was found to be 20%, 15% and 5% respectively at distribution, consumer and waste collector levels. Only around 6% had practiced proper waste segregation. Knowledge pertaining to health hazards were found to be negligible. Conclusions: With the increased burden the knowledge and practice were found to be highly inadequate. And it is a high time to intervene at the earliest by creating proper awareness and providing the requisite for proper disposal of E waste.

Background: Adequate and balanced nourishment is vital for upholding health and quality of life. Maintaining the right eating habits of college students means a lot for the prevention of many diseases that could occur in the adult period. Thus the purpose of the study is to assess the junk food consumption of college students.Aim: To study the dietary habits concerning junk food consumption of college studentsResults: About 16% consume junk foods daily. Hungry was the main reason to consume junk foods; Ice cream was the most preferred food for most of the participants. Majority of the participant mentioned taste as the major factor influencing the food intake.Conclusion: Nutrition professionals should take up the role and spread awareness in the general public and give them better guidance. A well-balanced diet, periodic physical activity, sufficient sleep, with good life style habits help in sound mind and healthy body leading to a happy life.

An extensive body of research demonstrates a higher prevalence of obesity among children with developmental delays (DD) versus children without delays. This analysis examined the effectiveness of a randomized controlled trial to promote healthy weight in a subsample of preschool-age children with DD ( n = 71) on the adoption of quality nutrition and increased physical activity habits versus controls. Child care centers ( N = 28) randomized to the intervention group received a multilevel (parent, teacher, child) role modeling program and curriculum on obesity prevention. Results showed that children in the intervention group slightly decreased their junk food consumption while the control group increased their junk food consumption. In addition, among preschool-age children with DD, change in parent fruit and vegetable consumption significantly influenced change in their child’s consumption. Conversely, the greater the consumption of junk food by parents, the greater consumption by their children. Results imply that preschool-age children with DD may benefit from child care center–based healthy weight programs.

Introduction: The population has not been investigated extensively about understanding and perception about obesity and its complications. The aim of the study was to investigate the understanding, recognition and practice between overall population in the selected areas of Lahore related to obesity and its complications. Methods: The descriptive study which involved 100 respondents. The respondents from Hussain Abad Lahore were conveniently approached and recruited. A pre-approved, questionnaire was used for data accumulation. SPSS version 20 was used both descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: From Out of the total 100 participants, 53% were females and 47% were males. Almost the half Participant 45% was in the age of 35years. Nearly 91% respondents don’t have idea about normal body mass index of adults. While 89% participants don’t know hormonal problems can lead the obesity. However 51% participants know that obesity can lead the heart problems. . Just about 52% participants were agreeing that when the person consumes extra calories than the individual burns obesity can occurs. 44% participants were agreed that psychological factors can influence the eating habits and obesity more over 36% are agreed that junk food takers are more susceptible to obesity. Only 3% participant checks their Body Mass Index (BMI) level. 26% change their eating habits, physical activity in order to maintain their physique and 11% takes of junk food. Conclusion: The respondents were more careful that obesity happens when a man expends a bigger number of calories than a man devours it. However the respondents know about obesity and its entanglements to some degree, their preparation towards weight isn't general which ought to be investigated later on for better human administrations, and prosperity comes about. Int.
