Abstract: Physical Education teachers are characterized by our interest in both permanent training and elaborating our own didactic resources. Based on this performance, our department took form of a work group during 2003-2004 as a place to share and exchange ideas and experiences. Out of this forum, we created a didactic unit for Secondary Education with games and accuracy contests practised during the late fifteenth and mid sixteenth centuries (while the reign of Elizabeth I) as main topics. Besides, on this particular occasion, our specific subject work involved a multi-disciplinary approach in order to obtain some stimulant and enriching knowledge of that historical moment. Finally, the result that we achieved was successful with a group of students who don’t feel at all motivated by any kind of physical activity. Therefore, we value this work highly as an educational tool.

Abstract. The assessment literacy among Physical Education teachers is one of the main educational concerns. For this reason, it is necessary to analyze the acquisition of this literacy both Pre-service and In-service Teacher Education. The present study has two objectives: (a) analyzing the influence of having experienced Formative and Shared Assessment systems during the Pre-service Teacher Education in the evaluation systems used by Physical Education teachers in Primary in their early years as teachers; and (b) investigating how it influences belonging to a work group of In-service Teacher Education of action research, which regularly uses Formative and Shared Assessment systems in Physical Education. A multiple case study is carried. In this study a semi-structured individual interview is conducted with several teachers belonging to this work group. The results indicated that there is a transfer between the experiences of Formative and Shared Assessment lived during their Pre-service Teacher Education and the application of these assessment systems in the first years as teachers. Although some of these teachers did not have such experiences in their Pre-service Teacher Education, they developed these systems through the In-service Teacher Education. The participants positively assessed the Formative and Shared Assessment experiences in the Pre-service Teacher Education, but even more, they indicated the relevance of the In-service Teacher Education.

The purpose of this study was to understand the perceptions of in-service Physical Education (PE) teachers when using Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) in teaching sports. Data were gathered from interviews, work group meetings, and participants’ diaries. The results show the difficulties PE teachers had in the planning and implementation of TGfU. In the initial stage of implementing TGfU, teachers reported feelings of insecurity to the point of doubting their own pedagogical expertise and knowledge. They also reported anxiety and exhaustion. Once they surpassed the first stage, teachers’ feelings of satisfaction increased in parallel with students’ improvement, in particular because students with the lowest skill level had made significant progress in decision-making, overall compression of the game, and tactical problem solving. This study identified some major challenges facing PE teachers wishing to implement TGfU, and thus allows for the development of support strategies to promote teachers’ pedagogical self-assessment.

Abstract: Studying and experiencing folk dances from a sociocultural perspective (Conesa, 2017) is an opportunity for students to understand the context of movements that make sense as forms of expression, embedded into dances from different parts of the world. In addition, this is an important tool for the instruction of future Physical Education teachers, who do not usually see themselves as really in a position to teach this content (Cañabate, Rodríguez & Zagalaz, 2016). In this context, the objective is to offer a didactic experience that brings future Physical Education teachers closer to the content of folk dances, in order to increase their knowledge about the subject and encourage training to complete the curriculum. The project was conducted in the subject of Physical Artistic-Expressive Activities, with a total of 108 undergraduates enrolled in the Physical Activity and Sports Sciences (CAFyD) degree. The design of the didactic experience was divided into: theoretical construction, practical experience of folk dances of the five continents, and experimenting role play with the students. From this experience, students within the university were introduced to the topic of dances from different continents. The theoretical-practical experience of folk dances is an alternative to be considered, as it contributes as an educational tool both for the training and qualification of Physical Education teachers and for the approach of students to dancing and its sociocultural value.

Abstract: The purpose of this paper was to analyze the perception of physical education teachers on job opportunities of key competences of a particular teaching model.

First aid performed properly can minimize the aggravations and even save lives. In the school context, emergency situations are part of the daily life and it is essential that Physical Education Teachers have a basic knowledge to carry out the school needs. This study verified the Physical Education (PE) Teachers knowledge from Santa Cecilia-SC public teaching related to first aid. It featured in descriptive nature, transversal, with quantitative and qualitative analysis of the data. Eleven PE teachers participated of the study. For the data collection, it was developed a questionnaire addressing conceptual aspects, procedures and attitudes concerning professional daily life. From the total, only one teacher did not have the first aid subject at the college. Teachers in their minority feel able to provide the first aid and even take on the situations, showing satisfactory theory knowledge, however in real life they feel insecure to act on before serious situations. It points out that more than 80% know how to act before less aggravating calls. Nonetheless, during cardiopulmonary arrest (CPR) and hemorrhages, they reported the need of an updated training. Mainly in children, they do not feel safe to provide the aid. It was possible to conclude that Physical Education Teachers showed a satisfactory level of knowledge in theory, however it suggest courses periodic updates.

Keywords: First Aid.
