Resumo. O presente estudo teve como objetivo construir e validar o instrumento “Escala de avaliação da constituição da identidade profissional do bacharel em Educação Física” (EAECP). O processo estruturou-se em cinco etapas, conforme proposto por Pasquali (2010): Construção das questões; Validade de conteúdo; Reprodutibilidade e fidedignidade do instrumento; Validação do constructo e Avaliação da consistência interna do instrumento. A partir das dimensões da representação profissional (Silva, 2003), dos 44 itens elaborados 11 foram eliminados pela redundância de ideias. Na etapa de validade de conteúdo outras oito questões foram eliminadas, resultando em 25 questões, mantidas pela avaliação de reprodutibilidade e fidedignidade. O modelo de Análise Fatorial Confirmatória evidenciou ajustamento adequado após a exclusão das oito questões e a realização de cinco correlações. A etapa de avaliação de consistência interna do instrumento apresentou bom índice. Os resultados evidenciam que o instrumento proposto composto por 17 questões distribuídas nas dimensões possui propriedades psicométricas satisfatórias e adequadas para verificar o nível de contribuição percebido pelos estudantes acerca do estágio curricular na construção da identidade profissional.Abstract. The purpose of this study was to construct and validate the instrument "Assessment scale of the constitution of professional identity of the bachelor in Physical Education" (EAECP). As proposed by Pasquali (2010), the process was structured in five steps: Construction of the issues; Validity of content; Reproducibility and reliability of instruments; Validation of the construction, and Evaluation of the internal consistency of the instrument. Based on the theory of professional representation, 44 elements were developed, of which 11 were eliminated due to redundancy of ideas. In the content validity step, eight other questions were eliminated, resulting in 25 questions. Confirmatory Factorial Analysis showed adequate suitability after the exclusion of eight more questions, and the achievement of five correlations. The internal consistency of the instruments presented a good level. The results show that the questionnaire, composed of 17 questions distributed in the dimensions have satisfactory psychometric properties that are adequate to analyse the contribution level perceived by students about the practice for the construction of professional identity.Resumen. Abstract Objectives To develop and examine the psychometric properties of the Caring Behaviors Assessment Tool Nursing Version-Short Form (CBAN-SF) based on the Theory of Human Caring to assess the nurses’ perceptions about caring behaviors. Design This study is based on the Consensus-based Standards for the Selection of Health Measurement Instruments checklist. Setting The study was conducted at the medical-surgical services of Akdeniz University Hospital between October 2019 and January 2020. Participants This study was conducted with 216 nurses working in the surgery and internal clinics. Main Outcome Measures Psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the CBAN-SF with 27 items. Results It was found that the Content Validity Index (CVI) for the items of the draft scale was between 0.972 and 1.00 and the instrument’s CVI had an average score of 0.994. The CBAN-SF had good fit indexes (chi-square goodness of fit / degrees of freedom = 2.914, root mean square error of approximation = 0.075, comparative fit index = 0.984, non-normed fit index = 0.983, normed fit index = 0.972 and standardized root mean square residuals = 0.054) in structural validity. For internal consistency, the Cronbach’s alpha, Spearman–Brown and the Guttman split-half coefficients were all 0.974. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient for the seven subfactors of the scale ranged between 0.793 and 0.904 and had acceptable internal consistency. The item-total score correlation of the scale was 0.648–0.829, and the factor loadings were 0.455–0.769. Conclusion The structural validity, internal consistency and content validity of the CBAN-SF supported to be a reliable and valid tool for assessment of caring behaviors by nurses.

Background: Assessment of the patient safety competency is necessary for the growth of nursing and safe care profession as well as evaluation of the nurses' educational needs. To this end, valid and reliable tools are required. Aim:The present study was conducted to determine psychometric properties of the Persian version of the patient safety competency self-evaluation (PSCSE) tool in Iranian psychiatric wards. Methods: All nurses (n = 209) working in two psychiatric hospitals of Kerman, Iran were included in the present cross-sectional study using census method. Followed by administering the Persian version of PSCSE to the participants, its internal consistency and reliability were assessed by test-retest method with an interval of 14 days. Other psychometric properties such as content, construct, and convergent validity of the tool were also examined. Results:The content validity index was 0.65 and the content validity ratio was 0.89. Item 14 was removed from the skill domain because it was not related to the psychiatric ward. According to the results of factor analysis, 40 items and three domains of knowledge (6 items), attitude (14 items), and skills (20 items) were confirmed with acceptable values. In terms of its convergent validity, PSCSE had a moderate correlation (r = 0.57) with the Assessment of the Safe Nursing Care (ASNC) scale. The correlation coefficient for test-retest was ICC = 0.92 for the whole instrument and 0.89, 0.89, and 0.92 for the domains of knowledge, attitude, and skill, respectively. The internal consistency coefficient (Cronbach's alpha) of the whole tool was 0.95 and 0.95, 0.79, and 0. 95 for the domains of knowledge, attitude, and skill, respectievly. Conclusion: Persian version of the nurses' competency tool in ensuring patient safety in psychiatric wards has acceptable psychometric characteristics. Aim: To evaluate the psychometric properties of an Arabic version of the Spiritual Care-Giving Scale (SCGS) in a sample of Saudi nursing students. Method: A convenience sample of 202 Saudi nursing students was included in this descriptive cross-sectional study. The 35-item Arabic version of the SCGS (SCGS-A) was tested for internal consistency, stability reliability, content validity, and construct validity. Findings: The SCGS-A manifested acceptable internal consistency and stability reliability with computed Cronbach’s alpha ranges from .84 to .94, and an intraclass correlation coefficient of .97. The item-level content validity index ranged from .83 to 1, and the scale-level content validity index (average) was .98. The principal component analysis revealed five dominant components with eigenvalues greater than 1, and a cumulative contribution rate of 62.0%. The five factors were moderately to strongly correlated ( r = .29-.56; p < .001) with each other and with the overall SCGS-A score ( r = .57-.77; p < .001). Conclusion: The SCGS-A manifested an acceptable reliability and validity in Saudi nursing students, which supports its sound psychometric properties. With the establishment of this valid and reliable tool, timely and accurate assessment of student nurses’ perceptions about spirituality and spiritual care can be facilitated.

Abstract Background: The assessment of sex addiction among different populations requires a valid and reliable tool. Since the Bergen–Yale Sex Addiction Scale (BYSAS) was not available in Iran, this study aimed to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Persian version of BYSAS. Method: After translation/back-translation procedure, a total of 756 Iranian men and women completed the BYSAS. The structural validity of this tool was evaluated by exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. An expert panel review also examined content validity of the items. Psychometric properties of the scale including validity, reliability (internal consistency [Cronbach’s alpha]) and test-retest) and factor structure were assessed. Results: Content Validity Index (CVI) and Content Validity Ratio (CVR) scores for BYSAS were 0.75 and 0.62, respectively. Data analysis demonstrated satisfactory internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha ranging from 0.88 to 0.89). Discussion: Study findings suggest that the BYSAS is a valid and reliable instrument for assessing sex addiction among Persian speaking adults. Replication of research findings is needed to expand the BYSAS for clinical and non-clinical Iranian populations.

An increasing body of scientific research on the nature, correlates, and effects of compassion has accrued over recent years. Expert agreement has not yet been reached on the conceptualisation of compassion for others, and existing self-report measures of compassion for others have often lacked psychometric quality and content validity. Recent publications of longer compassion measures represent significant strides towards ameliorating these issues. However, there is a need for psychometrically sound short scales for measuring compassion in time-constrained research settings. To meet this need, one can assess the psychometric qualities of existing scales in order to develop robust short adaptations of such scales. Study 1 (N = 501) empirically assessed the psychometric properties of the widely cited Compassionate Love Scale (CLS) to validate a new short scale of compassion for others (strangers) comprised of items from the CLS – the 7-item Compassion for Others Scale (COS-7). Study 2 (N = 332) addressed the absence of a German measure of compassion for others by validating a German version of the COS-7. The CLS did not display adequate model fit. Both the English and German versions of the COS-7 demonstrated adequate model fit, factor loadings, internal consistency, interpretability, convergent/divergent validity, and no floor/ceiling effects. Findings provide support for the English and German versions of the COS-7 as adequate short scales for measuring compassion for others. The German COS-7 is the first German measure of compassion for others published to date.

Introduction and ObjectiveThe cold chain of immunobiological agent conservation occupies a strategic position in the immunization system and, therefore, needs to be evaluated. This study psychometrically evaluated the Immunobiological Agent Conservation Assessment Scale (Escala de Avaliação da Conservação de Imunobiológicos—EACI).MethodsMethodological study carried out in Minas Gerais, Brazil, including 275 immunization rooms, divided into three stages: (a) pilot study; (b) internal consistency and temporal reproducibility; (c) criterion validity and structural validity.ResultsThe EACI items were analyzed for comprehension and clarity; presenting internally consistency (Cronbach’s alpha: 0.72 [95% CI: 0.666–0.763]) and temporal reproducibility (ICC: 0.948 [95% CI: 0.911–0.981]), in addition to explaining 72% of the variance and discriminating the groups criteria (p = .0025).ConclusionThe EACI is psychometrically reliable and valid and is the first assessment instrument available for this construct.

Positive psychological capital (PsyCap; hope, resilience, self-efficacy, and optimism) and locus of control (LoC; internal and external) denote psychological dimensions which have been identified as crucial resources for occupational satisfaction and success. These dimensions could impact fresh graduates’ ability to stand the labour market in times of crisis. Two instruments, called Academic PsyCap and Academic LoC, have been specifically developed to evaluate these dimensions among fresh graduates. The two instruments consist of 34 and 10 items respectively, which have been selected, through factor analyses, from a large initial pool of items administered to fresh graduated at the University of Padova. Results suggested adequate psychometric properties for both Academic PsyCap and Academic LoC. The factor structure of the two instruments was confirmed (CFI = .92, RMSEA = .07, SRMR = .07 for Academic PsyCap; CFI = .96, RMSEA = .05, SRMR = .05 for Academic LoC), and internal consistency was satisfactory for all the subscales. The two instruments are presented, and their psychometric properties are described.

Abstract Background:Although Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) is broadly used in clinical and research settings for assessing the disability level in patients with lumbar radiculopathy but it has not been translated into Urdu language according to the pre-established translation guidelines as well as the validity and reliability of ODI Urdu version has not been tested yet. The aim of this study was to translate ODI in native Urdu language (ODI-U) according to recommended guidelines and to measure its psychometric properties in Urdu speaking patients suffering from lumber radiculopathy. Methods: The ODI-U was developed through previously described translation procedures. 108 participants were recruited, out of which 54 were healthy and 54 were patients of lumber radiculopathy. ODI-U was filled by all participants. However, the patients were administered through ODI-U and visual analogue scales for disability (VAS disability) and pain intensity (VAS pain) at baseline and after 3 days. Reliability was investigated through test-retest method, internal consistency, standard error of measurement (SEM) and smallest detectable change (SDC) at 95% confidence level. ODI-U was assessed for exploratory factor analysis, construct (convergent and discriminative) validity and content validity. Alpha level <0.05 was considered statistically significant and psychometric standards were evaluated contrary to priori hypothesis.Results: The culturally adapted ODI-U revealed excellent test-retest reliability for total score (ICC=0.95) and for all item (ICC=0.72-0.98). Cronbach’s alpha of 0.89 showed excellent internal consistency and a moderate correlation between ODI-U total score and each item was observed through spearman’s correlation coefficient (r=0.51 to 0.76). One factor structure was created for ODI-U explaining 52.5% variance. There was no floor and ceiling effect of total ODI-U score showing good content validity. The discriminative validity was assessed by independent sample t-test which indicated significant difference in ODI-U total score between healthy and patients (P<0.001). The convergent validity was evaluated through Pearson’s correlation showing moderate correlation between ODI-U and VAS pain (r=0.49) as well as VAS disability (r=0.51).Conclusion: ODI-U showed adequate psychometric properties. ODI-U was found to be a reliable and a valid tool to measure the level of disability in Urdu-speaking patients with lumber radiculopathy.

ObjectivesTo translate and validate the Communication Skills Attitude Scale in the Polish language (CSAS-P) and its adaptation for use among registered nurses.DesignA cross-sectional descriptive design was used in order to translate and validate the CSAS-P. The following psychometric properties of CSAS-P were evaluated: content validity (content validity index), theoretical relevance (exploratory and confirmative factor analysis), one-dimensionality of subscales (principal component analysis), internal consistency (Cronbach’s α), test–retest reliability and discriminant validity.SettingParticipants were identified and recruited from the Centre for Postgraduate Education for Nurses and Midwives in Warsaw, Poland.ParticipantsThe validation group comprised 2014 registered nurses who were undertaking a spring specialisation exam in 2017.ResultsThe overall content validity index was >0.80, which was interpreted as indicating validity. The factor structure of CSAS-P differed from the original version, and removing three items from the scale better fit the data. The positive attitude subscale (11 items) and negative attitude subscale (12 items) were characterised by one-dimensionality and high internal consistency (Cronbach’s α=0.901 and 0.802, respectively). Test–retest analysis confirmed the stability of the measurement for both subscales and particular items. Nurses with prior participation in communication courses scored significantly higher than those without such education (p<0.05), confirming the discriminant validity of CSAS-P.ConclusionsThe psychometric properties of CSAS-P were comparable to the English language original. Further validation of CSAS-P in other groups of healthcare professionals may increase its applicability. CSAS-P can be used to evaluate attitudes towards learning communication skills among registered nurses.
