  El desarrollo de competencias por medio de la práctica sistemática de la actividad física se ha vuelto un desafío. Por lo anterior, el objetivo de esta investigación es conocer el efecto de las clases de educación física en el desarrollo de competencias genéricas mediante la percepción de los estudiantes, tras la aplicación del Cuestionario de las Competencias Genéricas de Educación Física, participando un total de 961 estudiantes de primer año pertenecientes a las diferentes carreras de la Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María de Valparaíso el año 2017. El Cuestionario fue diseñado para medir la variable de manera exhaustiva, considerando cuatro competencias genéricas: trabajo en equipo, recreación, inteligencia kinestésica y ética, las que forman parte de los programas de asignaturas de educación física. Según los resultados obtenidos se observa que en el caso de las competencias genéricas inteligencia kinestésica y ética, el valor obtenido fue de p<0,000. Para las competencias genéricas trabajo en equipo y recreación el valor fue p<0,002. Asimismo, el cuestionario presenta un 95% de confianza, evidenciando diferencias significativas, ya que el nivel de p-valor (Sig.) es p<0,05, y el valor obtenido fue de <0,000, concluyendo que los estudiantes reconocen que las clases de educación física permiten a través de la práctica sistemática de la actividad física el desarrollo de estas competencias genéricas, contribuyendo así a la formación integral del individuo.  Abstract. The development of skills throughout the systematic practice of Physical Education (PE) has become a challenge. This is the reason why the focus of this reasearch is to know the effects of Physical Education on the students' perception regarding the development of generic competences, applying the Questionnaire of Generic Physical Education Competences USM to 961 first year students from differents USM careers in 2017. The questionaire was designed to measure the variable exhaustively, considering four generic competences: teamwork, recreation, kinesthetic intelligence and ethics. These skills are part of the PE course outlines. The results showed that, in the case of the kinesthetic intelligence and ethics generic competences, the p-value was p<0,000. For the teamwork and recreation generic competences, the value was p <0.002.The Questionnaire holds a 95% of confidence and shows significant differences, since the significant p-value is p<0,05 and the obtained value was p<0,000. Therefore, it is concluded that students recognize that PE allow the development of generic skills throughout the systematic practice of physical activity, confirming that physical activity favors the development of generic competences and therefore, and contributes to the integral formation of the student.

Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the level of declared physical activity of first-year students from Jozef Pilsudski University of Physical Education in Warsaw by using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). The paper presents physical activity according to the students’ chosen degree course and sex. The study also analyzes physical activity in relation to the BMI index according to the classification by the World Health Organization (WHO). Basic procedures: The group of participants comprised 190 Physical Education (n = 115) and Sports (n = 75) students. The study was conducted in November 2015 and used the short version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire. Main findings: The results of the present study showed that the physical education students were characterized by a higher level of physical activity in each discussed type of physical activity than their peers studying sports. The study also revealed that the women showed greater physical activity than the men. It was only in vigorous-intensity physical activity that the men obtained higher results than the women. Conclusions: The male first-year students of the University of Physical Education in Warsaw prefer vigorous-intensity physical activity, and the female students prefer both moderate-intensity activities and walking. With the development of sports infrastructure and the growing number of sports services, women have become more physically active and achieve results rivaling, or at times, surpassing the results obtained by men.

The aim of the study was to assess the interest in physical activities in first year students of second (LF 2) and third (LF 3) medical faculty of Charles University. The sample of 407 students took part in the survey where 182 students were from LF 2 and 225 from LF 3. Students of both faculties (LF 2 and LF 3) practice a sport less than 2 hours per week (37 %, respective 38 %) and 2-4 hours (38 % respective 34 %). There are 14.5 % of students who regularly compete in a sport discipline and 4.6 % of students do not practice any physical activity at all. Cycling is practised by 111, swimming by 98, running by 63, volleyball by 62, skiing by 47, fitness and „turistika“ by 40 students. Interest in participating in physical activities is focused among traditional activities like swimming, volleyball, fitness, tennis, cycling, health oriented physical education and among „new“ activities like sport climbing, squash, beach volleyball,in-line skating, nordic walking, slackline, golf, floorball. It was showed that including „new“physical activities in curriculum may enhance the interest of students in physical education.

This article presents the results of the questionnaire and comparison, which allows determining the interest of first-year students in different types of physical activity at the National University of Water and Environmental Engineering. The purpose of the study is to determine students’ interest in different types of physical activity offered as part of physical education in a higher educational institution. According to their preferences, first-year students are suggested to choose either team sports (football, mini-football, volleyball, basketball), individual sports (table tennis, athletics, arm wrestling, weightlifting, boxing, swimming, chess, and checkers), or fitness activities for physical education classes in an educational institution. The comparative analysis of the obtained data demonstrates the pattern of an increase from 65.1% in the 2015-2016 academic year to 71.0% in the 2020-2021 academic year in the number of young men, who have chosen and are engaged in a certain sport in an educational institution, and decrease from 34.9% in the 2015-2016 academic year to 29.0% in the 2020-2021 academic year in the number of young women interested in physical activity at the university. Within five years, the number of young men choosing team sports has decreased from 75.6% in the 2015-2016 academic year to 63.3% in the 2020-2021 academic year, and the number of young men interested in individual sports has increased from 24.4 % in the 2015-2016 academic year to 36.7% in the 2020-2021 academic year. Fitness classes remain the most popular among female students, although there has been a decrease in the number of young women choosing it for physical education from 83.3% to 71.8% over five years. Team sports are gaining more popularity among first-year female students with only 5.3% choosing them as part of physical education in an educational institution in the 2015-2016 academic year, to 10.2% in the 2020-2021 academic year. A gradual interest in individual sports from 11.4% to 18.0% is observed in young women over five years.

The problem of determining the physical fitness of 1st year students and identifying their risk of developing cardiovascular disease in the first stage of physical education before the students’ medical examination is considered. During the analysis of literature sources, test tasks were selected in order to investigate and assess the level of physical fitness of students according to the methodology proposed by the Jyvaskyla University (Finland) and the risk of cardiovascular disease according to A. Z. Zapesochny’s methodology. 670 first-year students participated in the study. The assignment to evaluate fitness levels consisted of recording the walking time at a maximal pace over a 2 km distance and determining the post-exercise heart rate. The evaluation of the results was performed against the fitness level index. When testing according to Zapesochny’s methodology, the following indicators characterising risk factors for cardiovascular disease were considered: body weight and length, gender, blood pressure, hereditary factors, bad habits and physical activity. All the results, which were evaluated in scores, were combined to calculate the cardiovascular disease development risk level. An analysis of the results showed that 32.24% of first year students had a high level of physical fitness and only 8.21% had a low level. In 48.07% of the tested persons, the risk of cardiovascular diseases was absent. The explicit and maximum risk observed in 2.98% of the tested persons. This data helped in the first stage of physical education to select an appropriate physical activity for the students without risk of harm to their health prior to undergoing medical check-up.

The aim of this study was to identify the stages of behavioral change (SBC) and compare quality of life (QOL) and physical activity level between first-year and last-year undergraduate Physical Education students at a public university in Pernambuco state, Northeastern Brazil. This is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 199 undergraduate Physical Education students, enrolled in the first, second, seventh and eighth semesters of their course, with a mean age of 21.32 ± 4.00 years, of which 61.80% were first-year students (enrolled in the first and second semesters). Behavioral change was verified with the SBC questionnaire, QOL with the WHOQOL-Bref and physical activity level with the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). Student’s t-test and Chi-square test were used for data analysis, with a 5% significance level. The most prevalent SBC was in the Action stage (first-year students: 53.3% and last-year students: 43.9%). There were significant differences in the social (p <0.01) and environmental (p<0.01) domains. Regarding the physical activity level, 82.93% of first-year students and 86.84% of last-year students were physically active. Both groups of students showed relatively positive QOL, SBC and physical activity level, although QOL differed in terms of sociability and environmental adaptation.

PURPOSE: The aim of the paper is to present the results of a recent research survey (February 2021) in a broader context of the issue to determine whether university students devote themselves as much as possible to specific sports and physical activities even at the time of the ongoing pandemic associated with the spread of COVID-19, i.e. at a time when the possibilities of sports and physical activities are limited, and the contact Physical Education lessons (hereinafter referred to as PE) are cancelled at schools.METHODS: To meet the objectives of the research survey, the method of questioning – an online questionnaire – was chosen. The total number of the university students who were addressed was 1164, 530 first-year students from all seven faculties of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava (hereinafter referred to as VSB-TUO) answered. The questionnaires were subjected to the statistical classification of the first-level data. Another method was the comparative method of working with documents, comparing with the results of comparable questionnaire surveys from 2015 and 2018, and relevant scientific discussion in this contestRESULTS: The results of the research confirmed that first-year students of all VSB-TUO faculties, who as graduates of the relevant secondary school could no longer complete the subject Physical Education due to pandemic measures, preferred unorganized physical activities in accordance with the situation, such as walks, including walking the dog. 34.8% of respondents answered that they “did not miss sport” or that they “were not interested in sport at all”. A high percentage of respondents (44.3%) admitted that they “did not miss” organized Physical Education lessons “at all”, while some (31.3%) stated that thanks to the subject Physical Education, they were able to play sports “at least once a week”.CONCLUSION: Due to the high number of interviewed first-year students of VSB-TUO, it can be assumed that we would reach similar results in a vast population of peers, and the findings can be generalized. The study summarizes the latest reflections on impersonal forms of teaching of Physical Education on the motivation and intensity of sports and physical activities within the general level of foreign surveys as well. Relevant research in our cultural setting coincidently conclude indispensable importance of growing role of regular physical activity in the field of school, family and leisure including its attractive innovation during lock down pandemic situation.

This study examines whether the use of Oral Drills and Role-Play method could improve students’ interactive speaking achievement. This study used quantitative research using pre-experimental method with one group pre and posttest design. The study was conducted in SMP Advent II, Setia Budi, Bandung. The participants of this study were 30 students from the first year students at SMP Advent II Setia budi, Bandung as the sample and they were grade VII at SMP Advent II Setia Budi, Bandung. This study used one experimental group as the sample. A pre-test and post-test were done. The experimental group was given treatment (Oral Drill and Role-Play Method). The data gathered was then statistically calculated and analysed. According to the interpretation, if p Value (Sig.) ≤ 􀟙 (0.05) then HA is accepted and H0 is rejected and If p Value (Sig.) ≥ 􀟙 (0.05) then H0 is accepted and HA is rejected. After calculating the data it was known that the p-value = 0.000 lesser than alpha 0.05. Result of the study showed that there is a significant difference in improving students’ interactive speaking achievement after using oral drills and role-play method.   Keywords: Interactive Speaking, Oral Drills, Role-Play Method

Este estudio tuvo como objetivo determinar la asociación entre la aptitud motriz de estudiantes universitarios de primer ingreso y su desempeño académico en los dos periodos lectivos de inicio de la carrera de Educación Física, Deporte y Recreación. Participaron 83 voluntarios (Hombres = 60, Mujeres = 23) de la Universidad Veracruzana, México. La aptitud motriz se evaluó con ocho pruebas y el rendimiento académico se midió con el promedio ponderado de dos periodos consecutivos. Los análisis de regresión múltiple mostraron que el salto sin carrera (modelo 1), y gimnasia y encestes de baloncesto (modelo 2) predicen el rendimiento académico. En conclusión, la aptitud motriz predice parcialmente el rendimiento académico en estudiantes de primer ingreso.AbstractThe purpose of this study was to determine the association between the motor skills of first-year university students and their academic performance in the two initial academic terms of the Physical Education, Sports and Recreation degree. Eighty-three volunteers participated (Men = 60, Women = 23) from the Universidad Veracruzana, Mexico. Motor skills were evaluated with eight tests and academic performance was measured with the weighted average of two consecutive terms. Multiple regression analyses showed that standing jumping (model 1), and gymnastics and effective basketball throws (model 2) predicted academic performance. In conclusion, motor skills partially predict academic performance in first-year students
