The aim of this research is to investigate death anxiety of the people who live in Turkey and Denmark and have the same cultural background. Cross-cultural studies about death anxiety have been conducted within two different cultures. The goal is to fill the gap in the literature. In this context, participants’ self-esteem and personality traits were also investigated. Death Anxiety Scale, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and The Big Five Inventory were used in this study. Seventy-four people from Turkey and 67 from Denmark participated in this research. According to the results, people who live in Turkey have more death anxiety. There is negative correlation between self-esteem and death anxiety. Neuroticism of the personality traits has positive correlation with death anxiety.

Leaving home or transitioning to another environment is a part of every individual’s personal growth and is often considered to be a significant developmental milestone. The distress that individuals experience with this transition has been identified as homesickness. Elite sporting institutions, such as the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), have recognized that problems associated with homesickness appear to be a predominant cause of poor well-being and dropout among athletes living in a national sports institute. This study aimed to investigate if individual personality traits and coping styles could predict levels of homesickness in these athletes. Neuroticism, self-esteem, and mental escape were significant predictors of homesickness. These results suggest that athletes who are vulnerable to homesickness can be identified before the commencement of their sporting scholarships so they can be treated accordingly.

Background: Although self-expressive creativity is related to cyberbullying, it can also reinforce strengths that contribute to positive adolescent development. Our study concentrated on the relationships between personality traits and self-expressive creativity in the digital domain in an adolescent population. For this, we analyzed the effect of self-esteem and emotional intelligence as assets for positive development related to personality traits and self-expressive creativity. Methods: The study population included a total of 742 adolescents that were high-school students in the province of Almería, Spain. The following instruments were used: Big Five Inventory (BFI) to evaluate the five broad personality factors, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSE), Expression, Management, and Emotion Recognition Evaluation Scale (TMMS-24), and the Creative Behavior Questionnaire: Digital (CBQD). Results: The cluster analysis revealed the existence of two profiles of adolescents based on their personality traits. The analysis showed that the group with the highest levels of extraversion and openness to experience and lowest levels of neuroticism were those who showed the highest scores in self-esteem, clarity, and emotional repair, as well as in self-expressive creativity. Higher scores in neuroticism and lower scores in extraversion and openness to experience showed a direct negative effect on self-expressive creativity and indirect effect through self-esteem and emotional attention, which acted as mediators in series. Conclusions: To counteract certain characteristics that increase adolescents’ vulnerability to social network bullying, a plan must be developed for adequate positive use of the Internet from a creative model that enables digital self-expression for acquiring identity and self-efficacy through the positive influence of peers, which promotes feelings of empowerment and self-affirmation through constructive tasks that reinforce self-esteem and emotional intelligence.

Three groups of physicians were identified based on their compassionate behavior. Associations with personal characteristics indicate that physicians with high self-esteem are more likely than those with low self-esteem to behave in congruence with their attitudes towards people.

Background: Selfies are a rising phenomenon associated with the widespread use of smartphones and social media. The objective of this study was to evaluate the relationship between different personality traits and selfie behaviors. Methods: Undergraduate psychology students were asked to complete a questionnaire about their frequency of selfie taking, selfie posting to social media, and selfie sharing through private messaging. They were also asked to complete the Rosenberg 10-item self-esteem scale and the International Personality Item Pool (IPIP)-50 item scale to evaluate the Big Five personality traits. Results: A total of 96 participants were included in this study (mean age ± standard deviation of 26.4 ± 9.0 years, 81.3% women). On univariate analysis there was a significant negative correlation between the frequency of selfie taking (Spearman r = -0.228, p = 0.025) or posting (Spearman r = -0.238, p = 0.025) and emotional stability. However, on multivariate linear regression analysis adjusting for age among other factors, only self-esteem was independently and negatively correlated with the frequency of selfie taking (beta = -0.206, p = 0.020) or posting (beta = -0.233, p = 0.020), with the effect most notable in young (<25 years) individuals for selfie taking. Extraversion was independently and positively correlated with the frequency of selfie sharing (beta = 0.264, p = 0.005), with the effect most notable in young (<25 years) women. Conclusion: Findings from this study further expand our knowledge of the relationship between different personality traits and rising digital media phenomena.

Abstract BackgroundCancer is a worldwide common illness, it evokes psychological distress at different stages, during chemotherapy patient perceives a variety of psychiatric symptoms due to various medication side-effects and psychological distress. Studies have shown a significant impact of CBT in the management of psychiatric symptoms during chemotherapy. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of CBT for depression, anxiety, stress, death anxiety, satisfaction with life, and self-esteem among cancer patients during chemotherapy (CPdC).MethodsPlace and duration of the study: Department of Applied Psychology, Government College University Faisalabad in collaboration with Department of Oncology, Allied Hospital Faisalabad from November 20, 2020 and July 31, 2021. A total of 90 cancer patients were enrolled. 70 out of 90 met the eligibility criteria and 60 participants fulfilled all requirements. Participants were randomly allocated to four different groups. The pre-assessment screening was started along with the first trial of chemotherapy. The CBT-based treatment plan was formulated and one session per week was given to each patient for 3 to 4months. Participants’ age range was 18–65 years (M ± SD = 47.51 ± 12.36. Demographic form, DASS, DAS, SWLS, and RSES measures were used. Descriptive, t-test, and repeated measure ANOVA statistics were used to investigate the findings.ResultsResults indicated significant mean difference on the variable of depression, anxiety and stress across four conditions (i.e. F (2, 56) = 39.55, p < .000, η2 = .679; F(2,56) = 73.32, p < .000, η2 = .797; F(2,56) = 119.77, p < .000, η2 = .865 respectively). On death anxiety significant difference across four conditions was found (F (2,56) = 22.71, p < .000, η2 = .549) with large effect size. Furthermore, findings indicated significant mean difference on the variable of satisfaction with life and self-esteem across four conditions was found (F(2,56) = 22.05, p < .000, η2 = .542; F(2,56) = 36.19, p < .000, η2 = .660) with large effect size.ConclusionIt is concluded that CBT played a very effective role to reduce depression, anxiety, and stress-related psychiatric symptoms. CBT reduces the level of death anxiety and improving the quality of life and level of self-esteem among CPdC.Trial Registration: The study trial was registered in the Thai Clinical Trial Registry-TCTR (TCTR20201113002).

La presente investigación tiene como objetivo describir, analizar y comparar la autoestima y las habilidades sociales de un grupo de jóvenes, entre 17 y 24 años de edad, consumidores de drogas que se encuentran realizando tratamiento en la comunidad terapéutica Aylén (Argentina). Es una investigación de tipo descriptiva comparativa, con un diseño de diferencias entre grupos (G1, grupo de admisión) y (G2, grupo de reinserción social). La muestra estuvo conformada por 54 sujetos (25 para grupo de admisión y 29 para el grupo de reinserción social). Los instrumentos utilizados fueron el inventario de Autoestima de Barksdale y la Escala de Habilidades sociales de Goldstein, las cuales fueron adaptadas y validadas para ser aplicadas a la población de estudio. Asimismo, a partir de los procedimientos de validación de estos instrumentos se propusieron para cada uno, nuevos agrupamientos de factores. Los resultados mostraron, bajos niveles de autoestima para ambos grupos y entre niveles bajos y normales de habilidades sociales en cada una de las categorías componentes y el total. Finalmente, no se confirmaron las hipótesis de diferencias significativas en los niveles de autoestima y los niveles de habilidades sociales entre los jóvenes en etapa de admisión y los jóvenes en etapa de reinserción social. AbstractThe objective of the present investigation is to analyze and compare the socials skills and the self-esteem of a group of juveniles between the ages of 17 and 24 years, drug addicts, both under medical treatment in a Community center in Argentina. This is a comparative-descriptive study, with the design of two groups: G1 for admission group and G2 for the reinsertion group. The sample was made of a group of 56 people, 25 for the admission group and 29 for the social reinsertion group. The instruments used were the Goldstein Social Skills Scale and the Self-Esteem Inventory from Barksdale, that were adapted for the use in such case. Also for the use of such instruments, new validation measures were implemented in the selection of the variables. The results showed low levels of self esteem for both groups and between low and normal levels of social skills in each category. Finally, no important differences were founded in the levels of self esteem between the admission group and the social reinsertion period for the juveniles.
