The overall objective of this study was to determine factors influencing the knowledge and practice of Exclusive Breast Feeding1 (EBF) among lactating mothers with infants aged zero2 to six months at Ahero Sub District Hospital in Nyando District, Kenya. A cross- sectional design was conducted to 117 breastfeeding mothers at Ahero Sub-District Hospital at Maternal Child Health clinic; these were selected consecutively until the desired sample was attained. The independent variables were maternal education, marital status, both maternal and child age, maternal employment status, health factors (place of delivery and maternal chronic illness), and cultural beliefs while dependent variables included EBF practice and mothers’ knowledge of EBF3 (awareness of EBF and its benefits), pre lacteal feeds and exclusive breastfeeding consistency. Exclusiveness was measured in time initiated (30 minutes initiation after birth) Data were collected by trained enumerators who administered a structured questionnaire. Analysis was done using Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS) by running frequencies and cross tabulation. Chi square test was used to check for strength of association between variables at 95% confidence level. The study found that there was low EBF practice (33%) in the area and this posed a great concern. It was established that marital status, employment, maternal education, place of delivery and both infant and mothers’ age were closely associated with knowledge and practice of EBF. Marital status and employment were strong predictors of both knowledge and practice which showed statistical significance of P= 0.02 and P=0.00, respectively. It was evident that family support is a key factor in the success of EBF with special focus on partner involvement. Actions to empower women and promotion of EBF campaign are recommended to achieve the fourth Millennium Development Goal (MDG) and probably reduce infant mortality in the area. Further studies are required to assess the impact of a strong focused educational program (focused on building family support) on improving EBF rates.

Berdasarkan hasil ini diharapkan agar keluarga memberi dukungan kepada ibu dan anak untuk melaksanakan imunisasi sesuai jadwal karena imunisasi sangat penting untuk mencegah terjadinya penyakit serta menurunkan komorbiditas pada anak-anak Immunization is a way to boost a person's immune actively to an antigen, when exposed again to a similar antigen, no disease occurs. Without immunization the children are susceptible to disease, disability and death. Family support is one of the factors associated with maternal obedience in immunization to infants or children. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of family support to maternal obedience in the provision of complete basic immunization. The type of this research was observational analytic with cross sectional approach. Samples were taken using a total sampling consisting of 34 mothers with children aged 12-23 months. Family support data were collected using a family support questionnaire, identification compliance data were performed with a complete basic immunization compliance questionnaire. Based on statistical test using spearman rank got p-value 0,001 with correlation coefficient 0,530, meaning there was relation between family support with maternal obedience in giving complete basic immunization. Based on these results it is expected that families provide support to mothers and children to carry out immunization on schedule because immunization is very important to prevent the occurrence of disease and reduce comorbidity in children

Abstract Background Breastfeeding has the most profound impact on infant health and wellness, and also have significant implications for the mother. The duration of the breastfeeding determines the infant’s protection from malnutrition and other common infectious diseases; consequently, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) six months, followed by gradual weaning and breastfeeding until the baby is two years old. In Pakistan, the practice of breastfeeding is heavily dependent upon certain demographic, economic, social, and biological factors, which ultimately impact the quality of care provided to the infant and their health. The aim of this paper, therefore, is to measure the impact of these factors on the exclusive breastfeeding duration in Pakistan. Methods The data for the study has been collected from Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey (PDHS) for the year 2017–18. Binary logistic regression model and survival analysis are used to determine the relationship between the independent and dependent variables. Results We use a binary logistic regression to estimate the effect of each factor on the duration of EBF. The binary logistic regression finds significant relationships between region, maternal education, wealth index, size of a child, watching television, delivery by cesarean, and maternal age and EBF. We then use log-likelihood, AIC, BIC criteria to determine if a parametric or non-parametric model would provide a better fit; based on these results we fit an Inverse Gaussian (Weibull) distribution for the survival analysis. These results show that there are more significant factors associated with EBF duration in parametric survival analysis than in the binary logistic regression results. Thus, the survival analysis is a better method for predicting the relationship between the duration of EBF and its factors. Furthermore, logically EBF is designated to be done for six months which would not be properly gauged with a binary response variable. Conclusions The results of this study provide proof that exclusive breastfeeding is a common practice among women in Pakistan, and to improve the quality of post-natal care, health policy in the country needs to focus on the existing demographic and social factors which are found significant in this study.

The success of the implementation of exclusive breastfeeding in the community is depend on the readiness of pregnant mothers in exclusive breastfeeding. This readiness is influenced by several factors including motivation and support exclusive breastfeeding by family. This study aimed to examine the empirical model that shows the motivational role as mediators of the relationship between family support of readiness pregnant mothers in exclusive breastfeeding. Cross-sectional study performed on pregnant women in Surakarta. A sample of 150 respondents mother in her first time pregnancy. The closed questionnaire of Likert scale developed to measure three variables of the study. Path analysis procedure used to test the hypothesis of motivational role as mediator relations between two other variables. The results showed that all three variables had a significant relation (p <0.001). The relationship between family support to readiness pregnant women after entering motivation as covariates remained significant but decreased significantly path coefficient (β = 0.365; p <0.001 becomes β = 0.260; p = 0.001). Thus the motivation become a mediator relationship with the family support of readiness pregnant mothers in exclusive breastfeeding.

Background: Breastfeeding brings benefits to both mothers and children in the short term and long term. Unnecessary cesarean sections can bring risks to both parties. This study was undertaken to examine the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding intention and cesarean delivery. Methods: We analyzed data collected from 554 single mothers who delivered in Dong Anh General District Hospital or Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, Vietnam, in 2020–2021. The relationship between exclusive breastfeeding intention and cesarean delivery for nonmedical reasons was adjusted for maternal education, maternal age, parity, history of fetal loss, having at least eight antenatal contacts, hospital of delivery, child sex, and birth weight. Results: Antenatally, 34.8% (184/529) of mothers intended to breastfeed exclusively until 6 months and 30.8% (84/274) underwent cesarean section for a nonmedical reason. After adjusting for other factors, mothers who intended to breastfeed exclusively until 6 months were less likely to undergo cesarean delivery for nonmedical reasons (OR = 0.55, 95% CI: 0.31–0.96, p = 0.034). Conclusions: This study adds to the growing evidence related to unnecessary cesarean sections and routine over-medicalization of normal birth in the urban areas of Vietnam. The association between breastfeeding intentions and a lower rate of cesarean section suggests that education on breastfeeding could be a useful intervention for reducing the rate of cesarean sections and improving maternal and child health.

The achievement rates for exclusive breastfeeding are still not encouraging. One of the factors that caused it is lack of support from the mothers’ husbands or family in the process of exclusive breastfeeding. This support is very pivotal since it may motivate and give mothers the confidence to breastfeed. To find out the relationship between family support and maternal self-efficacy in exclusive breastfeeding. This study uses a cross sectional approach, which consists of the dependent variable (self-efficacy) and the independent variable (family support). The inclusion criteria are as follow: (1) breastfeeding mothers who have babies aged 1-6 months (2) mothers who live with their nuclear family in one house (3) mothers who live with their extended families in one house (4) mothers are able to read and write. The sampling technique used was non-probability purposive sampling using questionnaire as an instrument. Then the data were analyzed using the Spearman’s Rho statistical correlation test with a significance of p ≤ 0.05. The total respondents of this study were 49 people. The most obtained data is nursing mothers who experience good self-efficacy (69.4%). Statistical test results with Spearman’s rho obtained p value = 0.000 (α < 0.05) which means that there is a relationship between family support and self-efficacy, with the strength of the relationship (r = 0.854) indicating that it is very strong with the same value direction, i.e., if the family support of the mother is lower, then the self-efficacy of the mother will be low. There is a relationship between family support and self-efficacy in breastfeeding mothers. The higher family support, the higher the level of self-efficacy
