This study examined the relationship between peers popularity and self-esteem within the attitude towards sexual behaviour among young pregnant out of wedlock. A total of 130 teenagers pregnant out of wedlock aged between 14 years and 19 years from 4 welfare institutions in the states of Selangor, Perak, Johor and Kelantan participated in this research. Respondents were selected using stratified random sampling technique. This study utilises the three questionnaires of the Inventory Peer Pressure, Popularity, and Conformity Scale (Santor, Messervey & Kusumakar, 2000), the Rosenberg Self- Esteem Scale (Rosenberg, 1965) and Brief Sexual Attitudes Scale (Hendrick & Reich, 2006). All instruments used had yielded a Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient value ranging from 0.82 to 0.90. Findings revealed that the level of peers popularity is high, level of self esteem also high and respondents indicated a high level of attitude sexual behavior. Results of Pearson’s correlation analysis revealed that there were significant relationships between peers popularity and attitudes toward sexual behavior (r= .801, p<.05) and a significant correlation between self esteem and attitude sexual behavior (r = .708, p <.05). Bootstrapping analysis revealed the role of self esteem as a mediator variables of peers popularity and self esteem with sexual attitude behavior. From the theoretical implications, this study describes the role of self esteem as a mechanism that effect the popularity of peer sexual behavior and attitude. In conclusion, peers popularity and self esteem related to sexual attitude and behavior. The study showed that risk factors such as the acceptance by the peer group have a significant direct effect on sexual behavior At the same time, this study also suggests several alternatives in order to curb sexual misconduct among the teenagers today.

This study examined the mediating influence of self-esteem on the relationship between parent-child attachment and sexual attitude behavior among adolescent out of wedlock pregnancy in Peninsular Malaysia. Based on cross-sectional design, the sample of this study consisted of 130 teenagers pregnant out of wedlock aged between 14 years and 19 years from 4 welfare institutions in the states of Selangor, Perak, Johor and Kelantan participated in this research. Findings revealed that the level of parent-child attachmen is moderate, a hight of self esteem and  respondents indicated a high level of attitude sexual behavior. Results of Pearson’s correlation analysis revealed that there were significant relationships between parent-child attachment with attitudes toward sexual behaviour (r = -.220, p <.05) and a significant correlation between self esteem and attitude sexual behavior (r = .708, p <.05). In conclusion, the parent-child attachment and self esteem related to attitude sexual behavior. The findings of this study prove that parents should maximize time to ensure that youth do not feel isolated in the family. At the same time, this study also suggests several alternatives in order to curb sexual misconduct among the teenagers today.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Many students have been accustomed to smoking, including those majoring at health sciences. Theoretically, they are supposed to be the ones who are actively aware of some possible health damages caused by smoking habit. Thus, people around them play an essential role in taking control of someone’s pattern through social support, especially over those who are highly motivated to quit smoking. Objective: This study aimed to identify smoking behavior, social support, and cessation motivation in smoking among health sciences’ students. Methods: This research was categorized as observational-descriptive one, with the use of accidental sampling technique to recruit as many as 63 students of faculty of health sciences who were defined as active smokers. The data, furthermore, were collected by means of a questionnaire. At last, a statistical-descriptive analysis was used to evaluate the data. Result: The result was most of the involved respondents were shown to have a moderate trend of smoking (65%). On the other hand, the majority of the respondents had been supported through some types of social support with relatively high percentage, to name appraisal support (indicating 71%), tangible support (indicating 87%), self-esteem support (indicating 97%), and belonging support (indicating 92%). Moreover, most of the respondents were equipped by the high level of quittance motivation from smoking, signifying 71%.  Discussion: This research had indicated that the level of smoking habit perceived by the respondents was moderate. In short, appraisal support was defined as high, tangible support low, self-esteem support high, and belonging support high. In addition, some of the respondents had demonstrated a high level of quittance motivation from smoking

The study investigated determinants of risky sexual behaviours among adolescents in secondary schools in Rivers State. The study adopted the ex-post-facto research design. Four research questions as well as four corresponding hypotheses guided the study. The population of the study comprised 14,784 senior secondary school students (SSS 1, 2 and 3) in the 16 public secondary schools in Obio/Akpor LGA of Rivers State. A sample of 300 adolescents was randomly and independently selected using purposive sampling technique. Four instruments (questionnaire) were used to collect data for the study. They include; the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSS), Risky Sexual Behaviours Scale (RSBS), Emotional Intelligence Scale (EIS) and Peer Group Influence Scale (PGIS). The instruments were designed on a four point Likert scale of Strongly Agree (SA) =4, Agree (A) =3, Disagree (D) =2, and Strongly Disagree (SD) =1. The Cronbach Alpha reliability was used to establish the internal consistency reliability coefficients of 0.81, 0.73, 0.67 and 0.71 respectively. Responses to the research questions were answered with mean and standard deviation, while the hypotheses were tested with z-test statistics. The findings of the study revealed that emotional intelligence and peer pressure were significant determinants of risky sexual behaviours among adolescents in secondary school in Rivers State, whereas self-esteem and gender are not. Based on the findings of the study it was recommended among others that counsellors should readily offer practical assistance to adolescents experiencing sexuality problems to enable them develop healthy sexual behaviours and maintain healthy relationships with others.

Purpose: Madura is an island located in East Java which has a community with a high level of religiosity. Sumenep is one of the districts in Madura which has the largest population level among other districts in Madura. However, this is not in line with public compliance in paying zakat maal. Therefore, this study aims to find out whether religiosity, literacy, income, and tax obligation have an effect on community compliance to pay zakat maal.Design/Method/Approach: The data obtained in this study uses primary data obtained from people who pay taxes, using purposive sampling technique by determining people who have reached nisab, and for the analysis, it uses multiple regression.Findings: it shows that only religiosity and tax payment obligations which have an influence, while literacy and income do not have an effect on compliance to pay zakat maal. The implication of this research is as an evaluation for the local government to socialize the important role of the impact of zakat maal on the community, and to increase public understanding of the obligation to pay zakat maal.Originality/Novelty: Lots ofresearchesexamine the obligation to pay zakat fitrah but it is very rare to find research on zakat maal which is an obligation that must also be paid by someone who has assets that have reached Nisab (the minimum amount that a Muslim must have before being obliged to zakat).

Religion is an essential part of individuals’ daily routine practices in the Pakistani society. People rigorously own and defend their particular religious beliefs in the extremely diversified population of the country. The induction of sectarian ideologies in the mindset of children begins with their early socialization. This process further develops with the passage of time and the mindset of children becomes extremely rigid. Sectarian rigidity advances the elements of disrespect and intolerance among the believers of adverse sectarian groups. This study was aimed to explain the role of socialization patterns (religious ideological orientation, cultural socialization and peer group pressure) in enhancing sectarian rigidity in the society. Survey research was conducted in two high ranking universities of Lahore (one government university and one private university). It was based on the responses collected from 250 participants who were selected through the application of simple ransom sampling technique. Two hypotheses were tested to evaluate the relationship and the predictive role of socialization patterns in enhancing the element of sectarian rigidity in individuals. The results of the current study revealed that there was a significant positive relationship between socialization patterns and sectarian rigidity after the application of Pearson product-moment correlation test. Furthermore, the results computed through multilinear regression analysis showed a significant and positive predictive role of socialization patterns in enhancing sectarian rigidity. Thus, religious ideological orientation, cultural socialization and peer group pressure influenced the behavior of individuals that generate rigid sectarian identities in the society.

The high failure rate of new small enterprises in Angola calls to attention the fact that they are not equipped enough to meet the challenges of sustainable economic growth, equitable distribution of wealth and job creation. The worrying impact on the Angolan landscape, as a consequence, has had economists scrambling for solutions in recent years. Moving from on the assumption that the current business climate has been a contributing factor, this paper attempts to examine the role of external environmental factors in the context of Angola. Adopting a quantitative approach, the questionnaire was utilized as the primary data collection tool with snowballing as the sampling technique. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software delivered a result to the quantitative data that indicate a severe lack of economic support and availability of fundamental business resources such as raw material, skilled people and finance, and rigid policy-making regulations. The doomed-to-fail death knell to the Angolan small business comes in the form of a high level of corruption and theft in the country

Starting from the general principles of the concept of positive discipline, the paper points out that schools and teachers can significantly contribute to the application of positive discipline to affect different aspects of a student’s personality development. The potentials of applying positive discipline in the school for developing adolescents’ self-esteem are particularly emphasized. Accordingly, this paper will present the results of a study that aimed to establish a correlation between assessing the presence of positive discipline in a school context and the level of adolescents’ self-esteem. The survey included a convenience sample of 195 high school students from three high schools - art, technical, and grammar school. The Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and the scale for assessing the presence of positive discipline in the school were used to collect the data. The results showed that adolescents exhibit a high level of self-esteem, while their assessment of the presence of positive discipline in school is moderate. Also, it was found that with the increase in the assessment of the presence of positive discipline in school, the level of adolescents’ self-esteem increased, and the statistically significant moderating role of the measured variables was found only in the type of high school. The conclusion points to the need to sensitize teachers to manage the classroom according to the principles of positive discipline, as well as the importance of creating the conditions that, through the phenomenon of positive discipline, effectively raise the quality of schoolwork as a whole.

OBJECTIVES: Finding out the role of gender in aggression, self-esteem, and body esteem was the purpose of this study. METHODOLOGY: A cross-sectional research design was used. Different universities in Peshawar were visited, and 300 students were selected as a sample (N=300), which consisted of both boys (N=150) and girls (N=150) from the age-group 17-22 years. Purposive sampling technique was used to collect the data, and the measuring tools used were Rosenberg Self-Esteem, Buss Perry Aggression Questionnaire, and Body-Esteem Questionnaire. RESULTS: Although the research didn’t prove any difference in gender roles regarding self-esteem, it was revealed that boys are more aggressive as compared to girls. Furthermore, a correlation between self-esteem, body-esteem, and aggression was reported. CONCLUSION: The study gave the conclusion that gender has a role in levels of aggression found in students; however, both boys and girls are equally affected regarding self-esteem and body-esteem.
