This study examines the improvement of student speaking skill through content-based students’ English speaking skill. More specificly, this study : (1) finding to what extent content-based instruction improved the students’ speaking skill; and (2) to describe the teaching and learning situation when content-based instruction was applied in the speaking class. This study applied action research technique to conduct the research which is consisted of two cycles, with four meetings in each cycle; while each cycle consists planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research was conducted at Poltekpar Lombok Praya; the subjects of the research were the university students of second grade in the Academic year of 2018-2019. This study reveals that the teaching using CBI was effective in two aspects: (1) in improving students’ speaking ability: students’ speaking level increased; students could answer the teacher’s questions; students could fluently communicate with their friends by using correct grammatical forms and appropriate vocabulary with good pronunciation; the use of mother tongue was reduced; (2) in improving class situation: the atmosphere in the whole class became alive; students enjoyed the speaking activities; there were many chances for students to practice their speaking skill; students had great motivation to learn speaking; speaking became easy and fun to the students. This study futher showed that CBI was effective and beneficial to improve the students’ speaking competency and the classroom situation.

Ar-rohmah English Community is an extracurricular program which provides time and creates opportunity to learn English speaking skill. The aims of this study are to describe kinds of speaking activities used in Ar-Rohmah English Community Program in SMA Ar-Rohmah Malang, to find out the problems related to teaching and learning English speaking skill activities in AEC Program and to investigate the solutions for the problems. The use of research design in this study was descriptive qualitative in which the instrument used to get the data were observation, questionnaire and interview. It was presumed as the proper design in order to attain the purpose in overcoming and solving the research problems. This study obtained the data from twenty-four students and two English teachers who were involved in the AEC Program. After analyzing the data, it is found that English teachers use seven speaking activities in Ar-Rohmah English Community Program. Those seven activities are free speaking, card game, watching movie, interview, storytelling, science writing presentation and dialogue activities. Furthermore, the problems found related to teaching and learning English speaking skill are derived from linguistic and non-linguistic factors. From linguistic factors, it is found that the students face the difficulty on mastering vocabulary, choosing appropriate grammar, lacking of pronunciation experience and not habituated with English. Moreover, from non-linguistic factor, they are reluctant to speak in English because they are inhibited, have nothing to say, have low participation and feel ease and safe using mother tongue language. Besides, the teachers face the difficulty such as get tired to handle a large class with only two teachers, confused to choose suitable activity, do not remember students’ names, hard to motivate the students to speak in English and lack of preparation time. In addition, other activity which is Pandu Hidayatullah influences the students’ passion toward AEC Program. Dealing with those problems, the teachers keep creating creative, fun and interesting activity to improve the students’ vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and familiarized the students with English. By creating regulations, they solve the problems of students’ low motivation to use English hard to push the students using English

This research aims to know the use of pop-up book to improve English skill at SD Negeri 2 Gadingkulon. In this school, most students had low score in English skill because of limited media for teaching English. In this case, the researcher wants to improve English skill by implementing pop-up book for teaching. The subject of this research was second grade students which consist of 15 students. The method used in this study was classroom action research (CAR) in which the researcher worked collaboratively with the teacher. This research applied two cycles with four stages; planning, action, observation, and reflection. The data were taken from field note and scoring rubric. Furthermore, the result of this research was shown pop-up book can enhance students to be active and cooperative in the classroom. Therefore, pop-up book can improve students’ English skill. It was proven by average score in cycle 1 was 70 and cycle 2 was 86. Thus, all the students achieved Minimum Mastery criterion (KKM).

This study is a classroom action research (CAR). This study proposed example non example technique to teach English for second grade students at state junior high school 1 Larangan Pamekasan to solve the students’ problems on speaking skill. The result of the preliminary study indicated that the problem of the students toward their speaking skill is the average speaking score is lower than the minimum standard of learning (KKM). Based on the pre-test, the students who got score more or equals to 75 are 7 students and 33 students got less 75. Then the researchers collaborated with the teachers try to solve the problem using example non-example technique using classroom action approach. The results showed that the instruction through example non-example technique in the Cycle I and Cycle II, there was improvement of students’ speaking ability at second grade of state junior high school 1 Larangan Pamekasan. The students were more imaginative and feel free to show their understanding about the pictures. It made they motivate to learn and they could improve their speaking ability.

The Corellation between Students’ Self Confidence and Their Speaking Skill. ( Inthe Second-Grade Students of English Education Department of STKIP Garut)This study was undertaken by the writer because most of English studentsoften got dificulty in English speaking. Especialy in their confident to speakEnglish. To have a good English speaking , the students are expected to be able tobuild,develop and show their confident to use English speaking in any opportunity.Besides that, through self confident the students costumize to use English as daillyCommunication, it is important for the students to get more interaction and practicesin English speak in order they can mastering English speaking skill well.This study was aimed at investigating the corellation between students’ selfconfidence and theirs’ speaking skill. It was intended not only to solve the studentsdificulties in speaking English, But also to answer the main question “ Is there asignificant corellation between students’ self confidence and their speaking skill?”.The writer used the correlational method to find out and investigate whetherthere was a corellation or not between two variabels and how strong it is. Therespondent , Sixty four students of the second grade of English Education Programof STKIP Garut were selected proporsionl stratified randomly. The study began byassigining the students to answer the self confidence questionaries, then the writercollect the students speaking score from first until third which have provided inEnglish program office. Beside that, the writer clasified category for confidennceand took average speaking score from first until third to support the result of thedata analysis.The instrument include two variabels: Students’ self confidence and averageof speaking score list. To analyze the data, the writer used Pearson/Product Testformula to test the corellation and to test hypotesis. The result of the data analysisshowed the coefficient corellation between two variabels is 0,007 (sig = 0,007).Based on this result, it could be concluded that there was a very significantcorellation between students’ self confidence and their speaking skill. For thisreason, the researcher purposed some recomendation for the teacher and thestudents of STKIP Garut. The students suggested that they should build,develop,force and show their confidence of practicies in speaking English.

This research is a classroom action research which was conducted at SMA Muhammadiyah Jember. It is aimed at improving students’ reading comprehension by the use of questioning technique. The second grade students were taken as the subjects of the research. They are all thirty-two students. The data were collected from in-depth-interview during the process of teaching and learning and test which was given in the end of the process. In the first cycle, there were twenty students (62.5%) who gain the criteria of success. Meanwhile, in the second cycle, twenty-six students (81.25%) gain the target score. This showed that the students were successful in reading comprehension class. The conclusion of the study is that the use of Questioning Strategy can improve the second grade students’ reading comprehension of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Jember.Keywords: reading comprehension, questioning strategy.

ABSTRACT According to Meyer (2002) in Muniandy and Veloo (2011:173; cited in Tugiwati, 2014) defines video as a kind of multimedia material consisting of verbal and non-verbal presentations displaying simultaneous images, narration  and on screen text. Video is an electronic device that produces live images with a sounds. The major goals of this study were to investigate the implementing of video in teaching listening, the object of this study is the second grade students in senior high school. This study employed a classroom action research. Classroom action research on this study was conducted in two cycles. There are four steps in each cycle; planning, action, observation, and reflections. The data of this study were analyzed by using mix method, both of quantitative and qualitative. For quantitative method, the researcher used test to collect the data. While for qualitative method, it was analyzed by using questionnaire and observation. The test is used by the researcher to measure student’s listening skill improvement. In each cycle the researcher conducted pre-test and post-test. The questionnaires were used to support the data. Observation was used to evaluate the learning processes. The results show that the use of video in teaching listening was success to improve students’ achievement. It can be seen from the result of each test in each cycle. In cycle 1 the mean scores of pre-test 1 was 53.06, post-test 1 was57.83. While in cycle 2, pre-test 2 was 71.94, post-test 2 was 75.81. The result of questionnaires shows that the students could understand the content of the video easily. The objective of this research is to identify the improvement of students� English speaking ability through hypnocative speech. The research was conducted at Mantika Language Center. This action research was carried out in two cycles in which each cycle consists of four phases of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Here, the researcher guided the instructor as students� collaborators in implementing hypnocative speech method to improve students� English speaking ability. The data collection techniques used were observation, questionnaire, test, teacher's diary, observer�s daily journal, interviews, and audiotape recordings. The data consist of collected accent, grammar, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. The data have been collected through a critical comparative analysis technique by combining and simultaneously comparing the result of the first cycle until the last cycle. As result, it was found that implementing hypnocative speech in the teaching and learning process can improve students�attitudes and the outcome of their speaking ability. Here, the students can communicate fluently, do not feel afraid, and have more courage to speak the language communicatively, harmoniously, and correctly. Precisely, the implementation of hypnocative speech method can increase students� speaking ability, at least 30.31.Keywords: action research; speaking ability; hypnocative speech.

Abstract In this study, the researcher used method Classroom Action Research (CAR) to improve the quality of the learning and teaching processes as well as to detect and solving the problems that found in the teaching and learning process. The subjects of this research were the 34 students in SMK Budi Bhakti Utama Padalarang. The researcher used collaborative action research with some English teachers in the school. In this study, the researcher using the instruments interview and questionnaire test to collecting the data. The test that given to students is pre test and also post test in the and of the class or after the students has a treatment. In this result of the study showed the mean score of pretest is 62.02 to 64.00 and post test’s score reached up to 79.00. It is important to describe that there is a significant improvement of the test. Therefore, the criteria of success had been determined. It is crucial to remember that communicative games have contributed and positive impact on teaching and learning process. The communicative games like snowball throwing game expected to enhance students’ motivation and enthusiasm in learning English. Clearly, It gives positive improvement on students’ confidence and their fluency in speaking skill. Recently the ability to English speaking is very necessary since English has become a foreign language in Indonesia. A correct speech is become crucial to avoid misunderstanding conveying the information to the listener. Therefore, teaching English speaking is very necessary to the teacher in improving the students’ speaking skills. The main reason why learning to speak English is very difficult for the students is because students often use the Indonesian language (mother tongue) as the main language and are not accustomed to speaking in English in their daily life. One of the alternatives technique that can be used by the teacher is using tongue twister. The aims of this study is to explore about what are the problems that faced by the students while learning English speaking in Tongue Twister assisted. The classroom action research is a method that conducted in this research. There are two Cycles in this research and both of cycles showed of 77.14% of students has obtained a score of 75 and 77.13%. This result shows that the students have met the success criteria of the research and the students actively participate in the teaching and learning processes during English-speaking class.

This research aimed to know-how is the effectiveness of using Natural Approach to improve students’ interaction ability. Students should have an ability to build interaction in order to actualize the function of language as device communication which occurs within classroom activity and create an interactive teaching and learning process so it must be considered to be improved. This study employed a collaborative classroom action research design where the writer and collaborator work together in conducting this study. The subject of this research was the 25 students of XI IPA 1 at SMAN 4 Pinrang in the academic year 2018-2019. This study was carried out in two cycles which conducted in three meetings for each cycle by taking classroom action research phases i.e. planning, action, observation, and reflection. This study was descriptive qualitative research which used observation checklist, interview, and questionnaire as instruments of collecting data. The result after analyzing data qualitatively showed that (1) by using Natural Approach, students could participate in performing instructions and conveying responses during teaching and learning process. (2) They were active in giving feedback, answering questions, moreover, doing interaction within classroom activity. (3) Every class activity of each Comprehension (Pre-production), Early Production, and Speech Emergence stages in the two cycles encouraged them to involve actively in the teaching and learning process. Those descriptions indicate the effectiveness of using Natural Approach to improve students’ interaction ability.
