The study outlines the findings from a case study that explored how the uMkhanyakude education district improved its academic performance in such challenging circumstances of the district. The performance chart of the district tabling results from 2008 to 2020 raised curiosity and interest to investigating the strategies employed by the district turn things around. The study adopted a qualitative method of enquiry employing document analysis and telephone interviews with principals of top-performing schools in the district. The findings revealed that transformative leadership, parental involvement in the form of izimbizo, adoption of schools with high enrolments, use of lead teachers, regular school visits, prescription of learner activities, well-planned extra-classes and introduction of Study camps raised learner academic performance in the district. The study recommends quality teaching and learning across the grades, parental involvement should be encouraged at all levels, two-way communication, regular support by the subject advisors and the unions.

The objectives of this article are to set out the process and key areas for Siswati Subject Policy (SSP). Siswati is one of the languages in the Republic of South Africa that is granted the official status in terms of Section 6 of the Constitution. It is learned, taught and spoken at various provinces. The subject policy focuses on the development and management of the language from the theoretical understanding of its concepts to their practical stance. The policy is also expected to reinforce the government’s responsibilities of establishing the language infrastructures, providing equitable access to it and, enhancing language participation. The language subject policy covers all aspects of micro and macro linguistics, literature and onomastics. It covers teaching and learning, research, administration and community engagement. It is, however, more specific to focus on language in society and society in language, approaches and analytic strategies of the language as well as social interaction.

Promoting the values of peace and tolerance within an international climate of turbulence and instability is an essential responsibility for governments and schools. Threats to tolerance include the circumstances of societal challenges, instabilities in the region, and the increasing risks of social media. Ways to nurture and instill tolerance through the subject of Islamic education in UAE high schools is a key concern. Through a case study of the written, taught, and learnt curriculum of UAE Islamic education, this paper investigates the teaching and learning of tolerance in UAE high schools. It provides recommendations on how Islamic education classes, built on an awareness of the Islamic value of tolerance as a foundational component, can be utilized for shaping educational experiences that promote open mindedness. Curriculum-aligned Islamic education resources need to be further developed and teacher professional learning programs should be launched to empower teachers to achieve this intended aim.

Learning English is very closely related to learning western culture, which might contrast with Islamic values, the dominant religion in Indonesia. This study finds merit in finding out the implementation of Islamic values in teaching English at an Integrated Islamic school in Indonesia, where the school chosen curriculum mandated that the subject be integrated with Islamic values since all the students are Muslim. This case study took place at an Integrated Islamic School, and the data were collected through interviewing seven English teachers and conducting a thematic analysis on their lesson plans. All the teachers admitted that integrating Islamic values in the English lesson was essential. Still, the thematic analysis showed that their perceptions about the importance of integrating Islamic values in English learning were not firmly in line with the implementation in the teaching and learning process. The teachers' lesson plans (RPP) did not depict substantial integration of Islamic values. This study recommends the practical ways of integrating Islamic that could improve teachers' understanding of Islamic values in English learning, additionally pointing out a need to develop the curriculum and teaching materials that incorporate Islamic values.

novice teachers, strategies, large class.This research reports which aimed to analyze strategies of novice teachers used in the large classroom management. This work is a comprehensive case study covering all teachers who play an important role in their classroom management. The case study on this research focused on Junior High School novice teachers in Yogyakarta. The researcher choose this school because it has large class that can support the researcher in collecting the data. The subject of this research consists of five novice teachers. The data was gathered through observation and interview. This study indicated the perspectives of the novice teachers in large classroom.The result showed that the teachers mostly divide or organize the students by grouping them, monitoring them to check students’ work and to keep the class calm, give them positive punishment to students who misbehave, and using some teaching method to make students active during the teaching and learning process.

A variety of teaching and learning of Islamic Education is one of the elements that is been practiced by the Islamic Education teachers (GPI) in Johor. Therefore, this research is mainly focused on the venue for implementation the teaching and learning process of the subject, in order to create an effective and innovative learning session. Hence, in this study, the main data are supported by analysis documents and observation which collected from formal interviews of seven participants which are been considered as the main respondent. Other than that forty-two informants were identified in order to obtain more information as the supported to the main respondent. The transcript of the interviews data are analysed via N' Vivo 7.0 software to create a theme, sub-themes and sub-themes. The outcome of this study showed that there are five main areas that make up the pattern and most frequent areas of teaching and learning process are prayer room, library, classrooms, school region and audio visual room. This case study creates an outcome for Teaching and Learning Points of Islamic Education Model

Research on higher education distance education tends to focus on the technical aspects of distance teaching, with little focus on the personal components of teaching and learning. In this chapter, students are interviewed to identify whether they want a personal presence from their lecturers and if so, what this presence might look like in distance education. Conversely, lecturers are interviewed to determine what they personally bring of themselves when teaching in distance mode. Results indicate that many, but not all, distance students want their lecturers to be passionate about their subject, form relationships and be open and available. However, there were some students, albeit a minority, who wanted to focus solely on the subject. Other students were clear that even though they valued lecturers’ personal revelations, these needed to be directly related to subject materials. Similarly, distance lecturers suggest that while they do reveal aspects of their personality there are also boundaries as to how much they ‘give’ of themselves. A case study is presented that extends this discussion and provides one approach, through the use of technology, for taking the ‘distance’ out of distance teaching.

During the spring 2002 semester, an informal experiment at McNair Academic High School in Jersey City, New Jersey, dealt with the use of laptop computers as a teaching and learning tool in an algebra 1 class. One class of students used laptops as an integral part of their study of algebra, whereas a second class studied the subject in a traditional manner. This article reports on the experiment. It details how the study was conducted, the classroom approach taken by the teacher, problems encountered, the students' reaction, and so on.

In today’s competitive global setting, pupil’s performance is an important element of the school’s achievement. Pupil’s performance can significantly be affected by range of variables. Researches depict family structure as a salient variable. This study looked at the family structure of Junior High School pupils in Ayeduase Sub-Metro of Kumasi and their academic performance. The objectives were to assess the difference in relationship between the academic performance of children from single-parent families and two parent families and also to determine the difference in parental involvement in children’s academic performance. The research utilized a case study of 80 J.H.S. students in Ayeduase Sub-Metro, Kumasi between the ages of 12–18 years who were sampled by using stratified sampling technique. The sample consisted of all J.H.S 1, J.H.S 2 and J.H.S 3 students in order to maintain reliability. Chi-square test of independence was used in testing the first research hypothesis which was to determine the relationship between children in single-parent families and two parent families (family structure) and the dependent variable (academic performance). The result of the study indicated that, there was no significant difference in relationship between children from single-parent and two parent families (family structure) as independent variable and academic performance of pupils (p=0.791) as the dependent variable. The finding of this study provided evidence that family structure indicated no significant effects on academic performance of children. The study recommends that further studies should be carried out to include other family factors. Chi-square test of independence was used in testing the second hypothesis which was to determine the difference in parental involvement in children’s academic performance. The result of the study also indicated that, there was a significant difference in parental involvement in children’s academic performance (p=0.223).
