The aim of this research was to determine the effectiveness of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in the management of TVET programme in the 21st century. The preferred method of inquiry was the survey research design. A total population of 44 lecturers from the Department of Vocational and Technical Education, University of Benin and Ambrose Alli University was used for the research. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire, validated by two experts. The Cronbach alpha formula was used to determine the instrument reliability; which yielded the coefficient value of 0.87. 20 questionnaire items was administered to the respondents by the researchers. The mean, standard deviation and t-test statistical tools were used for the data analysis. The results of the research showed that PPP to a high extent can influence the optimization of financial resources, provision of qualified manpower, development of curricula and procurement of modern facilities. There was also no significant difference between the mean ratings of TVET lecturers in UNIBEN and AAU regarding the influence of PPP on the effective management of TVET programme in the 21st century. This indicates that TVET lecturers in both institutions have the same perception regarding the influence of PPP on the management of TVET programme. Based on these findings, 4 recommendations were made in the research. Keywords: inadequate resources, management, Public Private Partnership, TVET programme.

The study investigates key performance indicators (KPIs) that could improve performance of public-private partnership PPP)projects in Nigeria. The study objectives include a comparison of stakeholders’ perception on KPIs and to investigate if significant difference exists between stakeholders’ perceptions on most KPIs. A structured questionnaire was used to collect information from various respondents who were recently involved in PPP projects. Random sampling technique was used to select forty-five (45) respondents out of which thirty-one (31) responses were used forthe data analysis. The results indicate that top KPIs for performance improvement are levels of design complexity and technological advancement,and return on investment. Stakeholders agree on most of the rankings of the KPIs. The general perception of stakeholders was similar on most KPIs except for a few divergent opinions. The study findings have an implication for policy and decision making such that stakeholders could pay special attention to the KPIs identified, that could improve construction project performance. Finally the study recommends further research to explore KPIs for other procurement options.

The relevance of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in the field of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) cannot be overemphasised in the knowledge-based and globalised society. The world of works is in as continuous a state of change as ICT itself, thus posing more challenges to the workers in the 21st century and the institutions responsible for their preparation. Therefore, this chapter discusses the challenges and prospects of ICT in teaching TVE towards globalisation. The chapter points out clearly the meaning, philosophy, and objectives of TVET, concept and types of ICT, the need for effective utilisation of ICTs and its role in TVET, the challenges and solutions to the effective utilisation of ICTs in TVET, and the prospect of using ICT in teaching TVET. The chapter concludes by suggesting solutions for proper planning, management, and effective utilisation of ICTs resources in TVET.

This chapter discussed TVET teacher education in Myanmar on the threshold of the 21st century; a qualitative analysis of the present state of the art. Recent status of Myanmar's TVET system was highlighted and the chapter strongly maintained that qualified and motivated teachers and instructors are key for effective learning and are as well at the heart of TVET quality. The chapter provided a comprehensive problem scenario with regard to TVET teacher training; to mention a few, that there is a low awareness for the relevance of TVET in general and with respect to its potential to develop a country's skilled and semi-skilled workers. In comparison to university degrees, graduating from training courses at vocational institutions is not perceived as a valuable career option. Lastly, this chapter attempts to add to the collection of vocational education and training research by consulting a case in Myanmar – a country which currently possesses only a sparse amount of data in this field.

Creativity is a natural skill often exhibited by children at home and in schools, especially during play. Children are often seen playing with drawings and moulding of objects. Hence, if care is taken to encourage and develop children’s creativity, it may enhance a sustainable development in Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme. The aim of this study therefore was to determine the level of engagement of Nigerian children in creativity practice.  The study was carried out using 400 (232 boys and 168 girls) Junior Secondary School students of age eleven to thirteen as sample. Specifically, the study sought to find out whether or not the children do undertake creative activities at home and the domains in which their creative activities are based upon.  A Child-Creative Inventory Form (CCIF) was used as an instrument for data collection. Data collected were analyzed using both percentages and Chi-Square. The findings of the study revealed that Nigerian children love to engage in creative activities mostly in the domain of technical and vocational skills such as: building technology, woodwork, mechanical technology, and electrical electronics. The study revealed that 87.07% of the boys were engaged in creativity while that of girls was 73.81.5%; 7.76.% of the boys were not engaged in creativity while that of girls was 20.8%. 24.57% of the boys were not sure of their involvement while that of girls was 5.36%. In all, the study found a significant difference in the level of engagement of boys and girls in creativity with P< 0.05 level of Significance. It was therefore recommended that children who are creative in the domains of technology could be assisted to develop their career in these domains as this would be a means to sustain the TVET programme in the nation.

Information and communication technology (ICT) elicited rapidly dissemination over the world. For its impact inSudan, the national government has been energized the institutions to implement ICT in every sector. This studyexamined the Sudanese teachers’ skills and ICT integration in technical and vocational education and training TVETin Khartoum state. The study directed out of two hundred respondents were sampled randomly, questionnaires weredistributed, 168 (84%) were properly filled and returned, 130 were males and 38 females from three various bodiesof TVET include (technical secondary schools, artisan institutions, and vocational training centres). A One-WayANOVA and Independent sample t-test on SPSS version 20 for data analysis were adopted. The results revealed thatsignificantly the respondents are same in terms of demographic information and ICTs usage skills. However, therewas a significant difference among the respondents’ ICT skill due to their ages and qualifications. Consequently,more training needs to be conducted for TVET teachers in basic skills of computer use. Following the internationalstandards, the right decisions we are strongly recommending train/teach pre-service and in-service teachers on ICTsskills based on 21st-century requirement.

Objectives To evaluate drug consumption in the elderly aged 75 years or more living at home. Design Cross-sectional study. Setting Old-old (i.e., >75 y) people living in central Turin, a city in northern Italy. Participants Thirty-four general practitioners (GPs), with 50 or more old-old people in their patient list, randomly chosen among the GPs working in the Unità Socio-Sanitaria Locale I (Local Health Unit I) of Turin; 261 old-old people (135 men and 126 women) randomly selected from the practice records. Methods Data were collected by the GP through a structured questionnaire during an office visit and by a social worker in a home interview within 14 days of the GP visit GPs were asked to record every diagnosis and drug currently taken by the patient; social workers were trained in the administration of a structured questionnaire exploring sociodemographic variables, drug use (following the medication inventory strategy), disability, cognitive functions, and depressive symptoms. Results Nearly all subjects (95% of the women and 91% of the men) were taking at least 1 drug. The overall number of drugs recorded was 917 (47.1% for men and 52.9% for women), of which 172 (18.8%) were not reported by the GP but were recorded during the social worker's visit. The mean number of drugs was 3.2 for men and 3.8 for women, with a statistically significant difference (p = 0.02), while the mean number of diagnoses was 2.3 and 2.6, respectively. The study of correlates of drug consumption showed a strong association with number of diagnoses at univariate analysis (p < 0.0001, with a linear correlation coefficient of 0.64). No multivariate model showed a clear superiority over the simple one containing only the number of diagnoses in predicting the total number of drugs taken. Cardiovascular, nervous system, and alimentary tract drugs were the most frequently used. A total of 107 subjects (41%) were taking at least 1 unreported drug. Conclusions Our study shows high drug consumption among old-old people, with nearly 20% of drugs taken not reported by the GP. These results emphasize the need for an essential therapeutic approach in old-old people, prescribing only drugs of scientifically proven efficacy. Furthermore, the GP must make more effort when collecting a drug history from old-old patients.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to identify and assess the perceptions of stakeholders on critical success factors (CSFs) for Public Private Partnership (PPP) projects in Nigeria. Design/methodology/approach – A comprehensive literature review was conducted to identify the CSFs for PPP projects, which were employed to design a questionnaire survey. In order to capture a broad perception of stakeholders, the questionnaires were administered to five different stakeholder organisations involved in different PPP projects implementation in Nigeria. Data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics, mean score, Kruskal-Wallis test, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and factor analysis. Findings – The study revealed the result of mean score ranking, which indicated that all the stakeholders considered the identified 26 CSFs important and crucial for the successful implementation of PPP projects in Nigeria. Thus, the results of Kruskal-Wallis test and ANOVA indicated that except for six (out of 26) identified CSFs, there is no statistically significant difference in the perceptions of the stakeholders on CSFs for PPP projects in Nigeria. The study, through factor analysis, grouped the 26 identified CSFs into six principal factors. Practical implications – This research would be of benefit to stakeholders in PPPs to be aware of CSFs that demand utmost consideration. Also the identified CSFs are expected to enhance the success rate of PPP projects. Originality/value – The findings would be useful for PPP stakeholders in making decisions and in implementing PPP projects towards achieving value for money. This research will also be of interest to other academic researchers intending to investigate CSFs for PPP projects in other locations.

The research is aimed at assessing the important role of TVET on job creation and sustainable development of Nigerian economy. Two research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation statistics, while two hypotheses were tested using t-test statistic. A survey method was employed for the research. A four-point scale questionnaire was employed as the instrument for collection of data. The population consists of 332 TVET lecturers in 3 universities and 4 colleges of education in Edo and Delta States. There was no need to adopt sampling technique, nor select any sample size, since the entire population is of a manageable size. The instrument was validated by two experts and its reliability coefficient value using Cronbach alpha method was 0.81. The research revealed that TVET can equip students with skills for job creation and sustainable development of Nigerian economy. It also revealed that there was no significant difference between the mean ratings of TVET lecturers in Edo and Delta States on the extent to which TVET can equip students with skills for job creation. It further revealed that there was no significant difference between the mean ratings of male and female TVET lecturers on the extent to which TVET can equip students with skills for sustainable development of Nigerian economy. Optimizing sufficient amount of financial resources, regular supplies of state-of-the-art facilities, sourcing for qualified manpower, and organization of advocacy programme, that would help in effective management delivery of TVET were further recommended.
