The most popular building material today is concrete. Concrete is used for buildings, industrial structures, bridges, railroad sleepers, roads, dams and more. Along with the development of concrete technology is increasingly developing and innovative so as to achieve better characteristics, cheaper prices and environmentally friendly. In the early days of the development of concrete it is explained to us about the origin from ancient times to civilization to the present century of its development. In current developments, concrete already has a very high compressive strength up to 200-800 MPa, this is also called Ultra Hight Concrete (UHC). It is developed by the Reactive Powder concrete (RPC) method. Where in the research conducted, the manufacture of reactive material, namely Reactive Powder concrete (RPC) was given with a compressive strength of up to 52 MPa. The components of the RPC mixture consist of cement, fine aggregate, silica fume, superplasticizer and water. To produce a compressive strength of 52 MPa, the composition of the mixture used previous research. Detailed RPC concrete mix proportions are given in this study. Preparation and testing of materials are made in the laboratory of the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Untan. The results that will be obtained are the physical and mechanical properties of RPC Concrete. As previously explained, the manufacture of RPC concrete requires basic ingredients that include cement, fine aggregate, silica fume, superplasticizer and water mixed together. Of course, with basic ingredients with good and correct composition, the physical and mechanical properties of RPC concrete will reach the planned quality. Cement sold in the market today has PPC and PCC types. Therefore, the cement which is a binder of powder materials into a solid one plays a very important role in the formation of the best physical and mechanical properties of RPC concrete. With cement as a binding material, it is certain that the strength of RPC concrete is determined by the binding capacity of the type of cement to be used, thus RPC concrete will be obtained according to the planned quality of the plan. From the cement brands on the Indonesian market consisting of PPC and PCC cement types, it can be concluded that one of the cements using the PCC type cement brand has better physical and mechanical properties than the PPC type cement brand. And all brands of cement with PCC type produce compressive strength > 52 MPa. So, in the manufacture of RPC concrete it is recommended to use a cement brand with PCC type.

This paper presents some experimental results on the physical and mechanical properties of reactive powder concrete (RPC) using two different characteristics of densified silica fume (f1 and f2). The silica fume/cement ratio (f/c) varied from 15% to 35% by weight. The flow, the micromorphology by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the compressive strength at the ages of 3, 7 and 28 days were studied. The effects of the silica fume agglomerations on the properties of the RPC were considered and discussed. The test results indicated that the properties of RPC depended on the type of silica fume, amount of silica fume and amount of superplasticizer used.

In order to get mechanical properties ,some RPC samples with 5% steel fiber are tested, many groups data were obtained such as compressive strength, shear strength and fracture toughness. And a group of tests on RPC with 5% steel-fiber under penetration were also conducted to validate the performance to impact. The penetration tests are carried out by the semi-AP projectiles with the diameter of 57 mm and earth penetrators with the diameter of 80 mm, and velocities of the two kinds of projectiles are 300~600 m/s and 800~900 m/s, respectively. By contrast between the experimental data and the calculation results of C30 reinforced concrete by using experiential formula under penetration, it shows that the resistance of steel-fiber RPC to penetration is 3 times as that of general C30 reinforced concrete.

Basalt fibers are widely used in the modification of concrete materials due to its excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. In this study, the basalt fibers were used to modify reactive powder concrete (RPC). The effect of four mix proportion parameters on the working and mechanical properties of basalt fiber reactive powder concrete (BFRPC) was evaluated by the response surface methodology (RSM). The fluidity, flexural and compressive strength were tested and evaluated. A statistically experimental model indicated that D (the silica fume to cement ratio) was the key of interactions between factors, affecting other factors and controlling properties of BFRPC. The increase in basalt fiber content had a remarkable effect on increasing the flexural and compressive strength when D = 0.2. The addition of basalt fiber obviously improved the mechanical properties of RPC. While when D = 0.4, the decrease of fiber content and the increase of quartz sand content could increase the compressive strength.

The paper aims to investigate the influence of waste tire rubber and silica fume on the fresh and hardened properties of self-compacting concrete (SCC) and to design multivariate regression models for the prediction of the mechanical properties of self-compacting rubberized concrete (SCRC). For this purpose, 21 concrete mixtures were designed. Crumb rubber derived from end-of-life tires (grain size 0.5–3.5 mm) was replaced fine aggregate by 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, and 30% of total aggregate volume. Silica fume was replaced cement by 0%, 5%, and 10% of the total cement mass. The optimal replacement level of both materials was investigated in relation to the values of the fresh properties and mechanical properties of self-compacting concrete. Tests on fresh and hardened self-compacting concrete were performed according to the relevant European standards. Furthermore, models for predicting the values of the compressive strength, modulus of elasticity, and flexural strength of SCRC were designed and verified with the experimental results of 12 other studies. According to the obtained results, mixtures with up to 15% of recycled rubber and 5% of silica fume, with 28 days compressive strength above 30 MPa, were found to be optimal mixtures for the potential future investigation of reinforced self-compacting rubberized concrete structural elements.

Reactive Powder Concrete (RPC) is an ultra-high performance concrete which has superior mechanical and physical properties, and composed of cement and very fine powders such as quartz sand and silica fume with very low water/ binder ratio and Superplasticizer. Heat treatment is a well-known method that can further improve the performance of (RPC). The current research including an experimental study of the effect of different curing conditions on mechanical properties of reactive powder concrete (compressive strength, modulus of rupture and splitting tensile strength), the curing conditions includes three type of curing; immersion in water at temperature of 35 OC (which is considered as the reference-curing situation), immersion in water at temperature of 90 OC for 5 hours daily and curing with hot steam for 5 hours daily) until 28 days according to ASTM C684-99 [8]. This research includes also the study of effect of adding silica fume as percentage of cement weight on mechanical properties of reactive powder concrete for different percentage ratios (5%,10% and 15%). Super plasticizer is also used with ratio of (1.8%) by weight of cementitious material; constant water cement ratio (0.24) was used for all mixes. For each reactive concrete mix, it has been cast into a cubes of (150*150*150) (to conduct the compression test), a cylinders of 150mm diameter with 300mm height (to conduct split test) and prisms of (500*100*100)mm to conduct the modulus of rupture test. The results showed that the best method of curing (according to its enhancing the RPC mechanical properties) is the method of immersion in hot water at temperature 90 OC for the all silica fume percentages, and the best used silica fume percentage was (10%) for the all used curing methods.

AbstractCement mortars and concretes incorporating clinoptilolite, silica fume and fly ash were investigated for changes in their physical and mechanical properties. It was found that additions of 10% clinoptilolite and 10% Pozzolite (1:1 mixture of silica fume and fly ash) were optimal for improvement of the quality of the hardened products, giving 8% and 13% increases in flexural and compressive strength respectively. The specific pore volume of the mortars incorporating zeolite decreased between the 28th and 180th day to levels below the values for the control composition due to the fact that clinoptilolite exhibits its pozzolanic activity later in the hydration. In these later stages, pores with radii below 500 nm increased at the expense of larger pores. The change in the pore-size distribution between the first and sixth months of hydration occurs mostly in the mortars with added zeolite.

Workability, strength and fracture mechanics of polypropylene macro-fiber reinforced Reactive powder concrete (RPC) were studied in this work. The results showed that the incorporation of macro-fiber could influence the workability of RPC, the slump of RPC decreased with the increasing of macro-fiber content; compressive strength decreased while splitting strength increased with the increasing of macro-fiber, meanwhile the flexural strength invariant. Macro-fiber could strongly enhance the flexural toughness of RPC and changed the failure mode from brittle to ductile; fracture energy tends to increase linearly with the increasing of macro-fiber.

Reactive Powder Concrete RPC is comprise of (cement, quartz powder, sand, and superplasticizer) mixture with low water/cement ratio. It has not coarse aggregates and characterized by highly dense matrix, high strength concrete, excellent durability, and economic. This study aims to investigate fresh and hardened properties of locally cast RPC with several available economical materials such as silica fume (SF), fly ash (FA), steel fiber (STF), and glass fiber (GF). Experimental investigation were performed to study the effectiveness of partial replacement of cement by SF or FA to reach ultra-high strength concrete, effect of additional materials STF or GF in order to improve the fracture properties of the RPC mixes, and influence of the treated with normal water as well as with hot water. Fifteen different RPC mixes were cast with 20, 25, 30, and 35% cement replacement by SF, 25% cement replacement by FA, and another proportions taken combination between SF and FA with percentages 15, 20, 25% FA and constant 10% SF. Varying fiber types (steel fiber or glass fiber) added to concrete by different percentages 1, 2, and 3%. Specimens were treated with normal water 25ᵒC and hot water at 60ᵒC and 90ᵒC by 2 mixes with silica fume content 25% of binder and steel fiber content 2% by total volume. Performance of the various mixes is tested by the slump flow, compressive strength, flexure strength, splitting tensile strength, and density. The production of RPC using local materials is successfully get compressive strength of 121 MPa at the age of 28 days at standard conditions and normal water curing 25°C with Silica fume content 25% of binder and steel fiber content 2% by total volume of RPC and water/binder ratio of 0.25.  The results also showed the effect of curing by hot water 60 and 90°C, it is observed that compressive strength increases proportionally with curing temperatures and a compressive strength of 149.1 MPa at 90°C for 1days was obtained.

Abstract This study includes the effect of using different dosages of integral waterproof Admixture and silica fume on some mechanical properties of concrete. Concrete improved by using different ratios of integral water proof admixture(IWP admixture) to increase strength and durability, this admixture used as percentages from cement weight in each mix ranged from 0.0% to 2% ( 0.0, 1.0%, 1.2%,1.4%,1.6%,1.8%, and 2%), compressive strength test done for cubes with (10*10*10) cm for each mix. The flexural strength test was done by (10*10*40) cm beams and tested after 28 days of curing. comparison study was made between silica fume mixes properties and mixes without silica fume. Adding IWP admixture leads to increase mechanical properties of ordinary concrete, the reference mix shows compressive strength equal to 26.38 MPa, while mixes with 2% IWP gives 38.8 MPa in this study. The study also includes the effect of using 2 main dosages of silica fume to the mixes that contain IWP, the new concrete with two admixtures show better values of compressive, tensile and flexural strength comparing with mixes with only IWP, the compressive strength increased from 38.8 MPa for ordinary IWP mixes to 52.3 MPa for 10% silica fume concrete mixes, and also the flexural strength increased from 4.8 MPa for mixes with only IWP to 7.3 MPa for mixes modified with 10 % silica fume. Study include also using waste glass as fine aggregate in mixes contain IWP and 10% silica fume and that show more increment in mechanical properties also.

Abstract The present study investigates the properties of RPC developed using low cost eco-friendly materials such as pyrogenic silica (PS) and coir pith (CP) fine aggregates. This study investigates the effects of PS as silica fume replacement which is the main constituent for the production of reactive powder concrete which contained coir pith as a fine aggregate replacement instead of quartz sand up to 25%. The use of silica fume increases the particle packing density of RPC but increases the shrinkage phenomenon in RPC due to the minimum w/b ratio adopted. Therefore, in this research PS is used as a partial substitute for SF up to 30% and its effect on the mechanical and durability properties of coir pith containing RPC is studied. The test results showed that the mechanical strength values decreased with an increase in the addition of CP aggregate beyond 5% whereas the decrement in compressive strength was partially reduced when PS is used as silica fume replacement up to a maximum of 30%. The chloride penetration resistance was also improved with increasing PS substitution in RPC containing CP aggregates. The autogenous shrinkage and drying shrinkage were also significantly reduced due to the internal curing ability of the CP aggregates in combination with PS. The development of dense CSH gels from hydration is also evident from low CaO/ SiO2 ratio obtained from the EDS analysis. Hence the combination of PS with CP aggregates can reduce the shrinkage characteristics of RPC thereby providing eco-friendly sustainable concrete at low cost.
