There are abundant genetic resources of Populus in southwest China, which play an important role in scientific research and practical application. These resources are unfamiliar to the rest of the world and their value has not been widely appreciated; hence the purpose of this paper is to present the resources to the world, and to encourage more attention to be paid to them. There are 28 species, 20 varieties, and about 10 natural hybrids of Populus in the region. Of the 28 species, 25 are endemic to China, and 18 of them are indigenous to southwest China. So the region is regarded as one of the natural distribution and variation centres for Populus in China. The species fall into three floristic types: China–Japan, China–Himalayas, and ancient tropical; and show an obvious zonation in horizontal and vertical distribution with excellent adaptability to a wide range of environments. At present, only a few species are generally recognized, and to some extent grown and utilized, while most of them are still in natural conditions but face severe threat. It is therefore urgent to recognize, conserve and utilize these significant poplar resources.

AbstractIn our response, we review and address the comments on our target article made in the 25 commentaries. First, we review and discuss the commentaries that recognized the value of our approach, accepted the main premises and conclusions of our target article, and suggested further avenues for research on attractiveness-related biases. We then respond to commentators who either misinterpreted some parts of our target article or made statements with which we disagree. These commentaries provided us with an opportunity to clarify some aspects of our target article, for example, the fact that we address both the functional significance of attractiveness-related biases and their underlying mechanisms. We provide a rebuttal to two commentaries, in which we are accused of poor scholarship. We conclude our response by addressing two commentaries that discussed the societal implications of the occurrence of attractiveness-related biases in the labor market by briefly discussing the relationship between scientific research and social policy.

The role and importance of cross-border regions is in the focus of scientific research for a long ago. The theory' of spatial interactions of different actors is an issue of different scientific fields. From the practical side, the regional policy of the European Union has a wide set of instruments for these special - often periferic, underdeveloped, or even in capability for being pioneer of development - areas. With long peace years and expansion of touristic flows, tourist regions models appeared in the tourism geography literature. However, only a few models of cross-border tourist regions are known, and surprisingly most of them are based on North American evidence. We summarize these results with special attention to F.uropean experiences and offer new interdisciplinary research area.

The article presents an analysis of the essence of logistics as an object of scientific research and as an organizational mechanism aimed at streamlining the functioning of commodity markets. It has been determined that such an organizational essence of logistics affects the efficiency of commodity movement along the logistics chain of the market, and, on the other hand, the efficiency of the activities of the logistics entities themselves. It is shown that the process of commodity circulation in the market is based on a commodity exchange operation. Tying the theory of logistics to the theory of commodity markets, the authors consider it expedient and reasonable to introduce the concept of "market logistics" or "market logistics" into scientific and practical circulation. On this basis, an analysis of the difference in goals, functions and mechanisms of these scientific categories is presented.

This study analyzes the background of ideological and political theories teaching in operations research courses and provides a design framework for ideological and political theories teaching in operations research courses based on “trinity” according to real teaching practices. This article summarizes the merging point of ideological and political theories teaching in operations research courses, taking ability and knowledge as its carrier and ideological and political theories teaching as its core, as well as discusses four methods of ideological and political theories teaching: online and offline interactive teaching, stimulating independent learning by practical application, seminar-style flipped classroom, and promoting theoretical teaching through competition and scientific research.

Georg von Neumayer achieved outstanding scientific results and created the organisational framework for the successful completion of scientific tasks. Returning from Australia, Neumayer aimed to set up in Germany a state-owned centre for marine meteorology, hydrography, navigation, marine instruments and geomagnetism, with an emphasis on scientific research with practical application of the findings. Since 1868, a successfully operating private institute, Norddeutsche Seewarte, had existed in Hamburg. This institute provided instructions for sailing routes and the optimal use of favourable winds and currents. In 1875, the institute was transformed into an imperial institution, the ‘Deutsche Seewarte’ (German Marine Observatory), with a broad spectrum of marine responsibilities including meteorological forecasts and warnings, data acquisition and management, and climatology. Its first director was Georg von Neumayer, who led it to worldwide recognition. In 1903, he retired but the Deutsche Seewarte continued in his spirit. At the end of World War II, the institute was destroyed by bombs and ceased to exist. Today, the tasks are shared between Marine Meteorological Office of the Deutscher Wetterdienst specialising in the marine meteorological and related topics and the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency.

There is an abundance of free online tools accessible to scientists and others that can be used for online networking, data sharing and measuring research impact. Despite this, few scientists know how these tools can be used or fail to take advantage of using them as an integrated pipeline to raise awareness of their research outputs. In this article, the authors describe their experiences with these tools and how they can make best use of them to make their scientific research generally more accessible, extending its reach beyond their own direct networks, and communicating their ideas to new audiences. These efforts have the potential to drive science by sparking new collaborations and interdisciplinary research projects that may lead to future publications, funding and commercial opportunities. The intent of this article is to: describe some of these freely accessible networking tools and affiliated products; demonstrate from our own experiences how they can be utilized effectively; and, inspire their adoption by new users for the benefit of science.
