<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> As a critical component of road network data, stroke has been widely used in analysis and application of road network. However, most conventional stroke generation strategies are based solely on a regular angle threshold, ignoring the structural characteristics of the road network. In fact, map information comes from the diversity and difference of elements and their distribution characteristics. Different road network structures should also correspond to different angle thresholds, rather than a fixed value. Therefore, quantitatively describing the structure characteristics of road network, has an important impact on the determination of the threshold in stroke generation strategies. In this paper, we propose an algorithm of stroke generation based on spatial feature information, which achieves the selection of the optimal threshold under different road network structures.</p>

The development of road network infrastructure is an important component of the economic development of the European Union. Updating of the road network contributes to the integration of the economies of countries into a coherent whole. The road network provides the free movement of citizens, the movement of goods and the effective implementation of various services. The increase in the length of the road network leads to an increase in the financial and material costs necessary to ensure its maintenance and repair. One of the ways to reduce costs is by strengthening the physic-mechanical and operational characteristics of the pavement due to the widespread use of cement concrete. The quality of the pavement of cement concrete depends largely on the rational selection of its composition. This allows a significant increase in the durability of road pavement. The purpose of the research was: the development of recommendations for the rational selection of the composition of the road pavement material of cement concrete, aimed at upgrading longevity, and taking into account its frost resistance grade. According to the goal, the following tasks were developed: the analyses of the climatic zones in which the road network of the European Union is located; the development of a research plan, a selection of the response function and influence factors; the study of physico-mechanical and operational characteristics of the researched material of road pavement; on the basis of the obtained data, the calculation of the complex of experimental-statistical models, which describe the physico-mechanical and operational characteristics of the road pavement material; on the basis of experimental statistical models, a method was proposed for selecting the rational compositions of the cement concrete pavement road material depending on the conditions of its application. The results presented in the article can be used in engineering and scientific practice for the selection of road pavement from cement concrete for highways.

Based on the fixed interface component mode synthesis, a multiple and multi-level substructure method for the modeling of complex structures is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the residual structure is selected according to the structural characteristics of the assembled complex structure. Secondly, according to the assembly relationship, the parts assembled with the residual structure are divided into a group of substructures, which are named the first-level substructure, the parts assembled with the first-level substructure are divided into a second-level substructure, and consequently the multi-level substructure model is established. Next, the substructures are dynamically condensed and assembled on the boundary of the residual structure. Finally, the substructure system matrix, which is replicated from the matrix of repeated physical geometry, is obtained by preserving the main modes and the constrained modes and the system matrix of the last level of the substructure is assembled to the upper level of the substructure, one level up, until it is assembled in the residual structure. In this paper, an assembly structure with three panels and a gear box is adopted to verify the method by simulation and a rotor is used to experimentally verify the method. The results show that the proposed multiple and multi-level substructure modeling method is not unique to the selection of residual structures, and different classification methods do not affect the calculation accuracy. The selection of 50% external nodes can further improve the analysis efficiency while ensuring the calculation accuracy.

Thermal mapping has been implemented since the late eighties to establish the susceptibility of road networks to ice occurrence with measurements from a radiometer and some atmospheric parameters. They are usually done before dawn during wintertime when the road energy is dissipated. The objective of this study was to establish if an infrared camera could improve the determination of ice road susceptibility, to build a new winter risk index, to improve the measurements rate, and to analyze its consistency with seasons and infrastructures environment. Data analysis obtained from the conventional approved radiometer sensing technique and the infrared camera has shown great similarities. A comparison was made with promising perspectives. The measurement rate to analyse a given road network could be increased by a factor two.

The paper proposes a methodological approach to selection of rational directions for modernization of highway network while taking into account an increasing requirements of the national economy in a modern transport infrastructure being formed under conditions of the development of national transport and logistics system. The initial data required for variant development of design solutions contain information on existing transport and operational characteristics of the road network, intraand inter regional transport and economic relations, formed logistics supply chains, volume and structure of transportation and possible development stages for certain sections of highways. In this case initial data have a certain degree of uncertainty that requires to take design decisions with due consideration of the possibility to change information in a certain interval. The proposed options to use economic criteria make it possible to assess efficiency of logistics systems and their participants carry out operations pertaining to supply and handling of products and cargoes on specific sections of a road network and these measures are proceeding from common goals based not only on national or regional level, but also on the global level in the context of strategic planning. Study objectives play a significant role in selection of a calculation method, as well as its structure, a degree of its aggregation. Construction of an optimal scheme for modernization of a highway network presupposes to determine such totality of design solutions for construction, reconstruction and repair of motor roads with year-wise distribution for calculation period and certain network sections and such distribution of their freight flows when an amount of the reduced costs for transportation of the entire volume of products and modernization of motor roads would be minimal in accordance with transportation rates.

Abstract The selection of a road route plan is an essential preliminary task. The choice of the route greatly influences its function, role in the road network, economic development of the areas along the route, and the return on investment. In this paper, qualitative analysis and evaluation of the details of the proposed route options in terms of ecological environment and engineering economy are carried out through fuzzy hierarchical analysis, based on the route data from Bushang to Bizhou, to combine the principles of the routes and develop several route options. Among the pre-determined route options, screening and comparison are carried out, and Option II is proposed as the recommended route.

The determination of the route of movement is a key factor which enables navigation. In this article, the authors present the methodology of using different resolution terrain passability maps to generate graphs, which allow for the determination of the optimal route between two points. The routes are generated with the use of two commonly used pathfinding algorithms: Dijkstra’s and A-star. The proposed methodology allows for the determination of routes in various variants—a more secure route that avoids all terrain obstacles with a wide curve, or a shorter route, which is, however, more difficult to pass. In order to achieve that, two functions that modify the value of the index of passability (IOP), which is assigned to the primary fields that the passability map consists of, have been used. These functions have a β parameter that augments or reduces the impact of the applied function on IOP values. The paper also shows the possibilities of implementation of the methodology for the movement of single vehicles or unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) by using detailed maps as well as for determining routes for large military operational units moving in a 1 km wide corridor. The obtained results show that the change in β value causes the change of a course of the route as expected and that Dijkstra’s algorithm is more stable and slightly faster than A-star. The area of application of the presented methodology is very wide because, except for planning the movement of unmanned ground vehicles or military units of different sizes, it can be used in crisis management, where the possibility of reaching the area outside the road network can be of key importance for the success of the salvage operation.

The article studies possibility by using the data of the Road Weather Information Systems to forecast the beginning of precipitation on the roads maintained by the state road maintenance enterprises. The article discusses the importance of forecasts both to the road users as well as road maintenance enterprises, especially in a cold period of the year. The hazards caused by meteorological phenomena specific of winter season are presented. Research methodology is described which is based on the speed of movement of clouds carrying precipitation. To calculate speed the theoretical background is given assisting in selection of certain parameters for the determination of this value. Knowing the speed of movement of clouds the forecasts have been made. Results of the forecasts are compared to the real parameters and it is determined in what radius the forecasts are advisable to be made.
