Clima Urbano. Thus, the present study focused on the municipality of Assis, located in the western region of the State of São Paulo, and its primary objective was to determine the characteristics regarding temperature and air humidity in environments with different land use and occupation, during the winter, at night. The environments consisted of: the urban area of Assis, the outskirts of the city, and its rural area; and evidence of changes in climatic elements due to urbanization was verified. Data collection was carried out employing mini automatic weather stations that record information on temperature and humidity. Result analysis was carried out by comparing the data obtained in the city and the countryside, with the development of graphs using Excel to tabulate the information. Differences were observed with respect to the thermo-hygrometric data collection points, revealing a particular urban climate in the city of Assis. Keywords: Assis. Urban climate. Abstract Objectives: To analyze the association between ambient temperature, air humidity and atmospheric pollution with the incidence of hospital admissions for stroke in the city of São Paulo in 2016. Results: An average in the year 2016 was observed for CO of 0.58 ppm (SD = 0.12), not exceeding 0.81 ppm. For MP10, there was an annual average of 28, 26 μg / m3 (SD = 7.13), ranging from 20, 45 μg / m3 to 42.81 μg / m3. MP2.5 had a mean of 2016 of 13.40 μg / m3 (SD = 5.01). SO2 had an annual average of 1,90 μg / m3 (SD = 0,90), with a minimum of 1,20 μg / m3 and a maximum of 4,20 μg / m3. It is observed that the higher incidence values of stroke were stated in the colder and drier months at the year between May and August, that is evident looking for the female incidence of 769 in August and the male incidence of 8.92 in July. This fact matches with high concentrations of the pollutants, mostly SO2 that had the most relevant value of 4.2 μg / m3 in July.

This study aims to analyze conceptions of creationism and evolutionism among educators-in-training in the city of Formiga in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. Data collection was conducted based on a questionnaire developed by the European research project BIOHEAD-CITIZEN. To explore possible regional influences, the data obtained in Formiga, MG, were compared with data collected in São Paulo state, in Brazil. The results show a greater prevalence of creationist ideas among students of the Faculty of Education in Formiga, MG, compared to the results for the state of São Paulo. This prevalence arises due to the influence of religious, cultural and social values, which may be related to deficiencies in how evolution is taught throughout elementary school. The influence that these educators-in-training will have on children in the future may cause difficulties in the latter’s acquisition of scientific knowledge. This work is being funded by FAPEMIG.

Background: In light of the few reports from intertropical latitudes and their conflicting results, we aimed to replicate and update the investigation of seasonal patterns of suicide occurrences in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. Methods: Data relating to male and female suicides were extracted from the Mortality Information Enhancement Program (PRO-AIM), the official health statistics of the municipality of São Paulo. Seasonality was assessed by studying distribution of suicides over time using cosinor analyses. Results: There were 6,916 registered suicides (76.7% men), with an average of 39.0 ± 7.0 observed suicides per month. For the total sample and for both sexes, cosinor analysis estimated a significant seasonal pattern. For the total sample and for males suicide peaked in November (late spring) with a trough in May–June (late autumn). For females, the estimated peak occurred in January, and the trough in June–July. Conclusions: A seasonal pattern of suicides was found for both males and females, peaking in spring/summer and dipping in fall/winter. The scarcity of reports from intertropical latitudes warrants promoting more studies in this area.

The almost instantaneous access to information provided by technological advances has revolutionized the behavior of people and of the classrooms too. Teachers had to adapt themselves to new technologies to maintain students interested and attentive to the discipline being taught. In this work, the behavior of the students of the 6th grade of elementary school II during class was observed. The school chosen is a public school in the State of São Paulo (Brazil). The research was based on data collection. The students were observed by being filmed during six months. The results showed that the students were interested in the classes and committed to the activities. The place that the student chooses to sit in the classroom influences the behavior of the teacher, because the more distant the teacher, the less he participates in the class.

During the initial months of the COVID-19 pandemic, farmers worldwide were greatly affected by disruptions in the food chain. In 2020, São Paulo city experienced most of the effects of the pandemic in Brazil, with 15,587 deaths through December 2020. Here, we describe the impacts of COVID-19 on urban agriculture (UA) in São Paulo from April to August 2020. We analyzed two governmental surveys of 2100 farmers from São Paulo state and 148 from São Paulo city and two qualitative surveys of volunteers from ten community gardens and seven urban farmers. Our data showed that 50% of the farmers were impacted by the pandemic with drops in sales, especially those that depended on intermediaries. Some farmers in the city adapted to novel sales channels, but 22% claimed that obtaining inputs became difficult. No municipal support was provided to UA in São Paulo, and pre-existing issues were exacerbated. Work on community gardens decreased, but no garden permanently closed. Post COVID-19, UA will have the challenge of maintaining local food chains established during the pandemic. Due to the increase in the price of inputs and the lack of technical assistance, governmental efforts should be implemented to support UA.
