Abstract: This research aims at finding out whether or not the use of chunking strategy is effective in developing students’ ability of story retelling to the tenth-grade students at MAN 01 Pekalongan. Quasi experimental research was applied as the method with two groups : experimental and control group. The total subject of this research was 52 students which were taken from two classes of X IPS 1 as a control group and X AGAMA 2 as an experimental group. Face and content validity were done by asking the English teacher and advisor to be expert judgements to validate the instrument by using a rubric appearance of test for face validity and its conformity by curriculum as a content validity. Inter-rater reliability in giving scores to the students’ was done to measure the reliability of the test. This research used SPSS in analysing the data of speaking test through several activities. They were pre-test before treatments, and post-test after treatments. The result of the research shows the significant difference in the story retelling ability between tenth grade students who were taught by using chunking strategy and those were not taught by using it. It can be seen in the result of mean score in the post-test of experimental class which is 89 and control class which is 83 and as a result Sig. (2-tailed) is 0.044 0.050. Therefore, the null hyothesis of this study is rejected. It means that the use of chunking strategy had significantly improved the tenth-grade students story retelling ability in English teaching and learning process of the experimental class at MAN 01 Pekalongan in the academic year 2019/2020. Keywords:     chunking, teaching speaking strategy, story retelling

This study is limited on writing tourism brochure for tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 20 Batam in Academic year 2017/2018. The study was designed by the writer by using true experimental design (pre-test and post-test control group). The population of the study were tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 20 Batam academic year 2017/2018. There were eight classes of tenth grade students with the total number 300 students. The samples of this study were two classes which consist of 30 students in experiment class and 30 students in control class. The instrument of this study was written test. The data analysis was used Independent Samples Test on IBM SPSS statistics 20 to perform T-test. The result showed that the Sig.(2-tailed) of students’ pre-test and post-test in experimental was 0.401 and standard significance level was 0.05. By comparing the Sig.(2-tailed) and standard  significance level, it was known that Sig.(2-tailed) was bigger than standard significance level (0.401 > 0.05). It means there was no significant difference in writing tourism brochure before and after taught by using Mind Mapping in experimental class. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was rejected and the null hypothesis (Ho) was accepted. The conclusion of Mind Mapping was not given significant effect in improving students’ ability in writing tourism brochure.

This research is motivated by the lack of students' abilities in Sundanese. The purpose of this study is to describe the ability of ngawih before and after using the Explicit Intruction model, whether or not increasing after using the Explicit Intruction model, as well as describing the difference between the ngawih ability before and after using the Explicit Intruction model. The method used in this study is a quasi-experimental method, to students of class XI KPU-2 SMK Negeri 12 Bandung by using a pre-test and post-test design. Based on the results of research conducted, the average before using the Explicit Intruction model is (30.14) which proves that students are not capable of being incompetent, while the average after using the Explicit Intruction model is (75.88) which proves students are capable of being incompetent. Based on the statistical test results the significance value (Sig.2-tailed) is (0,000 0.5) or less than 0.5. Thus, H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. This means that there is a significant difference between the ability to appear before and after using the Explicit Instruction model. This shows that the Explicit Intruction learning model can improve the Sundanese ngawih ability of class XI KPU-2 students of SMK Negeri 12 Bandung in Academic Year 2018/2019.
