Geopolymers based on Bulgarian natural zeolite (clinoptilolite) were synthesized using alkaline activators in order to prepare plaster/render mortar. The influence of the alkali concentrations of the activator solution was examined in regard to tensile strength and adhesion to concrete. Microstructure of the obtained geopolymer pastes was analysed by XRD, FTIR, SEM. The results showed adhesive strength to concrete up to 3.6 MPa and tensile strength up to 5.44 MPa. The present study shows a promising potential of the geopolymers as coating material for concrete.

Abstract The degradation of adhesive strength between plies in aircraft tires was studied as a function of aging temperature, time, and environment. Adhesive strength degraded much faster than the cord tensile strength under the aging conditions used. Adhesive strength degraded faster in air than in nitrogen during the long-term aging. A 50% loss in adhesive strength is suggested as a reasonable critical value in determining tire life.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of shear and micro-shear tests on adhesive resistance and on defects in restorations in human dentin. The teeth were sectioned and embedded. The dentin surface was treated with universal system adhesive and the samples were divided into two groups. In the first, composite resin pins were fixed with 1 mm diameter and in the second, pins with 2 mm. After mechanical tests the samples were taken to the SEM for analysis of fractures. Tensile strength on G1 was 16 MPa and on G2 20 MPa. The fractures occurred after shear were mostly mixed and cohesive in dentin. On micro-shear adhesive and mixed, no cohesive. It can deduce that, the diameter of the pin influenced the adhesive resistance and the type of failure. Therefore, for evaluation of adhesive strength in dentin the test indicated is micro-shear.

In view of the strength loss and dimension shrinkage of polyester nonwoven used for the sewage pipeline in the hot-pressing process, the response surface methodology was proposed to optimize the technological parameters of lining material. Select the temperature, time and pressure to enhance the hot-pressing process of lining material with the response value of the rate of dimensional change and tensile strength. The results showed that the temperature was 180°C, time was 3s, and pressure was 2.8MPa. Under this process, the rate of dimensional change was 4.23%, transverse tensile strength was 7.95MPa, and longitudinal tensile strength was 5.26MPa. It showed that the response surface methodology had practical application value, and provided a theoretical basis for the hot-pressing parameters of lining material with maximum tensile strength and minimum dimensional shrinkage. The paper also tested the adhesive strength, air permeability and water permeability of lining material under the optimal process, founding that the prepared material had excellent adhesive strength, air permeability, water permeability, and could meet the construction requirements of pipeline rehabilitation and the use requirements of conveying medium.

Background: Acrylic prosthesis that are used for a long time are often not sticky anymore and easy off. Treatment that can be done is relining, which is resurfacing with new material addition to prosthesis surface in contact with mucosa. One of materials used is denture reliner made of acrylic material (heat and self cured acrylic). The successful use of this reliner material depends on the retention of acrylic base surface. There is some retentions namely bur strokes, ethyl acetate and Al2O3 sandblast. Purpose: To determine effect of retention in form of bur strokes, Ethyl Acetate and Al2O3 sandblast on acrylic bases surface on adhesive strength of reliner denture material. Method: Research using samples in form of acrylic blocks with a length of 80mm, a large block width of 10  x10 mm and small block of 10 x 8 mm, reliner material thickness is 3 mm. Total of 64 samples were divided into 2 groups based on reliner materials (heat and self) and each group was divided into 4 groups based on treatment (control, bur stroke, ethyl acetat and Al2O33 sandblast).  All samples were subjected to tensile test using UTM to obtain tensile strength values. Result: Heat CA tensile strength value was greater than self CA and the two groups were significantly different (p<0.05), while lowest tensile strength value in control group followed by  ethyl acetate and  largest value in Al2O3 sandblast  and almost all groups were significantly different (p<0.05). Conclusion: Heat CA is more adhesive than self CA and  retention on acrylic surface is proven to be effective in increasing adhesive strength of acrylic surface against denture reliner.

Carbon fiber (CF) reinforced compositesusing different types of vinylester (VE)resin includingconventional VE resinhave been prepared. The mechanical performance were characterized by different tests, such as tensile, mode-I interlaminarfracture toughness, tension-tension fatigue and scanning electron microscope (SEM).The experimental results showed that the tensile strength of CF/VE composites changed at a wide range from 22.3% to 37.8% in comparison with the CF/conventional VE composite due to resin type, where the strain at failure was varying. The tensile strength increased with an increase of adhesive strength between carbon fiber and VE resin characterized by the microdroplet test. Namely, a good correlation between the tensile strength of composites and the adhesive strength was found. On the other hand, almost an inverse correlation was found between the tensile strength of composites and the interlaminar fracture toughness of composites obtained by DCB (double cantilever beams) tests. There was no apparent correlation found between the strain at failure for pure resins and the tensile strength of composites.Thefatigue life of CF/VE compositesincreased as well as the tensile strength with an increase of the adhesive strength between carbon fiber and the resin. The samples sometime survived 1000 times longer than that of CF/conventional VE compositewhen the maximum cycle stress was 70% of the tensile strength of the strongest composite.

Alumina (Al2O3) coatings in the thickness of 10μm and 15μm were prepared on the 4043 Al-Si alloy substrates by electroplating technology. Multiple mechanical properties of alumina coatings were evaluated by various techniques: the long distance microscope, Charge Coupled Device microphotographics, acoustic emission and strain foils. For the electroplating alumina coatings, the in-plane tensile strength is 68.1 MPa, the cohesive strength is 96.2 MPa and the adhesive strength is over 22.7 MPa. Three different directional microcracks, which are relative to the tensile directional and corresponding to two fail modes in the alumina (coatings)/4043 Al-alloy (substrate) system, were found.

Laminated glass is widely used to enhance structural functions. The impact fracture behavior of laminated glass is more complicated than that of single glass, because of the combined influences of the large deformation and delamination strengths. In this study, the impact fracture behavior of a laminated glass plate intended for the outside surface of a modern building has been studied by numerical simulations and experiments. This fracture simulation was calculated using a Discrete Element Method (DEM) based on non-continuum mechanics. The laminated glass structures have been optimized for attaining maximum durability against impact fracture based on the response surface method. In the optimum problem, the tensile strength of the interlayer and the adhesive strength between two pieces of glass and the interlayer are taken as the design variables. From the results of the optimization, it has been observed that the laminated glass difficult to break in the case that the tensile strength was high and that the adhesive strength was a little light. The penetration performance of an optimized laminated glass plate was noticeably better in comparison with a commercial laminated glass plate.

Since the sewer system in Japan is becoming obsolete, it is, therefore necessary to reinforce or repair without stopping sewer functions by applying a suitable water stopping method. In this study, a multi-layered sewer pipe plug consisting of a protective sheet and inner and outer rubber balls is focused since it can be installed and removed at the construction site in a short time conveniently. Four types of adhesively bonded structures are investigated experimentally by changing bonding processes and adhesives. It is found that the main and base adhesive joint is the most suitable since the pressurized adhesive strength [Formula: see text] MPa is 30% of the standard tensile strength of the protective sheet [Formula: see text] MPa.

The treatment of concrete surface using more durable material is one way to slow down the damage process of material, which can negatively affect durability of construction. This paper is aimed at testing the geopolymer-type coating materials of different composition while placing emphasis on various techniques of surface pre-treatments of concrete to which they were applied. The main composition variables were as follows: the fly ash fineness (original, ground) and the addition of washing-aggregate sludge. Four compositions were tested and compared with the composition based on cement binder. The cement mixture was prepared using the same fillers. The following techniques of surface pre-treatment of concrete were applied: brushing, pressure washing, and pressure washing followed by penetration, together with non-treated surface being used for comparison. The effect of the surface treatment technique was tested through the adhesion strength, which was executed at 2, 7, 28, and 120 days after application of the coating. The influence of the composition of geopolymer coating material was also discussed. Geopolymer-based mixtures achieved better adhesive strength than the cement-based mixture, regardless of surface treatment technique. The addition of sludge microfiller seems to be beneficial in improving the adhesive strength of geopolymer-type coating material.

The durability of polymer powder coatings is considered. The features of the impact on coatings during their operation of the environment, loads from the side of the substrate on the surface of its contact with the coatings, parameters that depend on the chemical composition and structure of the coating material are briefly analyzed. The thickness of the coating stands out as the main indicators of durability; a function that characterizes the continuity, strength, corrosion resistance, and its other properties; adhesive strength. It is proposed to use a generalized (integral) criterion for a comprehensive accounting of these indicators. An equation is written to assess the durability of the considered coatings, in a particular case, a formula is given for calculating their permissible operating time.
