Work and energy are contents traditionally addressed in the study of physics and engineering. This is because this topic is part of people's daily lives; that is, they are critical thinking skills included in 21st century learning achievements that must be mastered by students. This study aimed to make an appropriate assessment formulation to measure students' critical thinking skills in work and energy. The systematic method of review was carried out through three stages. The first step was to search for relevant literature sources through a database and books. The database used included SAGE Journals, Wiley Online Library, Science Direct, and Google Scholar. There were 115 journals or proceedings that have been examined and then selected 50 articles following established criteria. The second stage determined formulating achievement indicators, and the third stage developed conceptual tests of critical thinking skills. Based on this study on the conceptual framework of the study to measure students' critical thinking skills in teaching materials for work and energy, it was concluded that (1) indicators of critical thinking skills on work and energy include interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, explanation; (2) the basic principles of making critical thinking test instruments include presenting phenomena, open-ended tests, and testing the rationality of answers; and (3) there were examples of the application of the development of the critical thinking skills test instrument for indicator analysis.

The aim of the current research is to reveal the relationship between pre-service teachers’ attitudes towardscompulsory English courses and their critical thinking skills. The study also investigates the effect of the participants’age, gender and department on their attitudes towards compulsory English courses and their critical thinking skills.California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory (CCTDI) and Attitude Scale towards English Classes (ASTEC)were used as data collection instruments. 159 pre-service teachers from different departments of a public university’sfaculty of education. The results showed that there is no significant relationship between the participants’ age, genderand department and their CCTDI and ASTEC scores. According to the correlational analyses, it is found that there isno correlation between CCTDI and ASTEC scores of the participants. The results have been discussed under the lightof relevant literature and implications are presented for further research and pedagogy.

<p class="JIPIAbstractBodyEnglish">This development research has a goal delevoping OASIS based module with the subject of work and energy to increase critical thinking skills of students. The development module contains the subject of work and energy, Oriented activities from an OASIS learning model (Orientation, Analysis, Synthesis, Investigation, Synergy), examples and exercises. The limited ADDIE model procedure which includes analysis, design, development, implementation. The development module is validated by 10 material and media experts. The results of validation are calculated using CVR and CVI calculations. CVI score of material experts is 0,8 and CVI score of media expers is 0,82, both of which are very suitable criteria. N-gain test was conduted in small classes to know the increase critical thinking skills of students. The n-gain result of critical thinking skill test was 0,66 in moderate category. Pretest homogenity test with Sig 0,535 and posttest homogeneity with Sig 0,678 greater than alpha 0,05. Meanwhile pretest normality test with Sig 0,638 and posttest normality test with Sig 0,180 greater than alpha 0,05. The t test paired sample test to know there’s an average difference in pretest and posttest , the value Sig 0,000 smaller than alpha 0,05. Meanwhile the result of student responses showed 73,3% in good category. In conclusion, effectiveness of the application of an OASIS based physics module is able to increase critical thinking skills of students.</p><p><strong><em>Keywords</em></strong><em>: </em><em>Module, OASIS Based, Critical Thinking Skill</em></p>


Assessing student understanding and extending student learning beyond the face-to-face or synchronous online lesson is commonly done with the use of online discussion forums. However, the challenge reported by tutors of higher education has always been the lack of active participation and critical engagement by students unless the task is graded formally. Researchers have been investigating various approaches to facilitate effective learning experiences such that students are motivated to engage others when they are tasked to partake in such asynchronous discussions. This paper explores how I sought to engage my Engineering undergraduate students, reading a critical thinking and writing module taught in a blended learning environment, in online discussion forums with the adoption of the Paul-Elder critical thinking framework. The aim was to develop higher levels of criticality in thought in students’ forum responses, while demonstrating the application of the critical thinking tools, such that they were able to collaboratively construct knowledge and deepen their conceptual understanding of Engineering leadership. Results of the analysis found that students were engaged in spontaneous dialogic discussions in the form of repeated extended posts published in the online discussion forums. Furthermore, analysis of student critical reflection essays also confirmed that the online discussion forums, with a deliberate use of the tools of the framework, had contributed to their development of critical thinking skills to deepen their understanding. This paper concludes with a recommendation for tutors of higher education to make the assessment of students’ critical reflection or critical thinking skills visible for students with a proposed conceptual framework for online discussion forums.

By this purpose, the researches published between 2008-2014 in Science Direct database were examined by using content analysis. Also study was completed in three main parts. The first part consists of the conceptual framework about, technology use in education, critical thinking, the effect of technology on critical thinking and new technologies used to develop critical thinking skills. In the second part the content analysis method was used to examine the researches published in Science Direct database. In the final part, the conclusion and recommendations were given about the research and future studies.

There is a heated debate over whether critical thinking can be taught in the educational field for the reasons that its definition is seldom comprehensively given and universally accepted by the academia, as well as its value and impacts on the development of learners’ critical thinking skills. Focusing on the practical use of critical thinking, the main concern in this paper is whether critical thinking can be taught, particularly in an EFL classroom. The reflection on several conceptions and characteristics of critical thinking will be firstly introduced. When discussing these accounts, the reasons that why it is challenging to teach critical thinking as well as why it can be taught in previous relevant literature will be presented. Then the current situations of critical thinking skills taught in the classroom, taking a Chinese EFL classroom for an example, will be illustrated and finally the reasons why it is popular as a tool in teaching and learning will be discussed.

Critical thinking has become a major competency of higher education learning in Indonesia; therefore, a specific learning model that is oriented towards improving students' critical thinking skills is important to be developed. This study aims to develop an Inquiry Creative Process (ICP) learning model to promote critical thinking skills of physics prospective teachers. This research is the first step of development research which produce learning model with valid criteria on content validity and construct validity aspects. The validation of ICP learning model has been done through focus group discussion (FGD) mechanism involving 5 experts as validator. The data of the validation results of the model were analyzed descriptively by averaging the validation score. Validation results show that the validity level (Va) of 4.12. The conceptual framework and validation results of the ICP learning model are described in this article.Berpikir kritis telah menjadi kompetensi utama pembelajaran tingkat pendidikan tinggi di Indonesia, sehingga model pembelajaran yang spesifik berorientasi ke arah peningkatan keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa menjadi penting untuk dikembangkan. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengembangkan model pembelajaran Inquiry Creative Process (ICP) untuk melatih keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa calon guru fisika. Penelitian ini merupakan langkah awal penelitian pengembangan yang menghasilkan produk model pembelajaran dengan kriteria valid pada aspek-aspek validitas isi (content validity) dan validitas konstruk (construct validity). Validasi model pembelajaran ICP dilakukan melalui mekanisme focus group discussion (FGD) dengan melibatkan 5 orang pakar selaku validator. Data hasil validasi model dianalisis secara deskriptif dengan merata-rata skor hasil validasi. Hasil validasi menunjukkan tingkat kevalidan (Va) model pembelajaran ICP sebesar 4,12 berada pada kategori valid. Kerangka konseptual dan hasil validasi model pembelajaran ICP dijabarkan dalam artikel ini.

ABSTRACTThis research is aimed to know the differences increase critical thinking skills through learning group and individual problem solving in thermochemical material. This research uses a quasi-experimental design with nonequivalent control group design and study sample consisted of 103 students, divided into the first experimental (group problem solving) (35 students), the two group experimental (individual problem solving) (34 students). The collected through pretest-posttest. The analyzed with the Kruskal Wallis test, the results showed that the learning problem solving as a group or individually can improve students’ critical thinking skills. Statistical test there are significant differences in the students critical thinking skills thermochemical material between students who received group and individual problem solving.
