This work studies how the luxury experiences and perceptions of consumers are. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the modern luxury consumption experiences from a wider perspective rather than focusing on the traditional luxury consumption as a signifier of social status. The study adopts an interpretative and exploratory approach to explain in detail the contribution of the luxury consumption of consumers to the construction of self. Among the qualitative research methods, the method of keeping a diary, which sincerely transmits the processes, relations and perceptions in the daily world of the consumers was applied to the study [1]. The consumer diaries enable a ground to understand the complex structure of luxury experiences as a loop of luxury which is an indispensable part of the daily life of consumers. To achieve maximum diversity 16 participants from different age, occupation and education fields are selected. The consumer diaries are analyzed by using the inductive categorization process [2] and constant comparative method [3]. The research results are classified the luxury experiences under three categories indispensably related with processes and conditions of the self. The findings of the work are related with the present theories on self yet they pose a transition from vanity consumption, to which the perception of luxury bases, to temporary and abstract concept of consumption.

While there have been a number of studies on the decontextualisation and secularisation of traditional ritual music in America, Taiwan and other parts of the globe, very little has been written on the processes and transformations that South Africa’s indigenous ceremonial songs go through over time. This study was prompted by the authors’ interest in, and engagement with the Xhosa initiation song Somagwaza, which has been re-imagined as a popular song, but has also purportedly found its way into other religious spaces. In this article, we attempted to investigate the extent to which the song Somagwaza is still associated with the Xhosa initiation ritual and to analyse evidence of it being decontextualised and secularised in contemporary South Africa. Our methodology included an examination of the various academic treatments of the song, an analysis of the lyrics of a popular song, bearing the same name, holding small focus group discussions, and distributing questionnaires to speakers of isiXhosa on the topic of the song. The data gathered were analysed using the constant comparative method of analysing qualitative research.

The purpose of this research is to describe how the mothers of children with disabilities in rural areas of Extremadura perceive care tasks and the subjective impact that these tasks have on their daily life and health, as well as the subjective assessment that these mothers make of the benefits and services of the Spanish welfare policy. An interpretative paradigm was selected, using a qualitative approach and a phenomenological design. Twelve mothers were included. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews. A discourse analysis of the narrative information was performed using open, axial, and selective coding processes and the constant comparative method. Three topics have been extracted from the findings of the analysis: (1) extensive care responsibilities, (2) impacts upon well-being and daily life, and (3) resources that “barely” help. The care tasks performed by mothers of children with disabilities in rural areas have an enormous impact on their daily life and health. This involvement in caregiving generates a significant occupational imbalance which has an impact on their mental health, and which causes economic and social problems.

These past few years, Thailand’s entertainment industry has been increasing their production of Boys’ Love series and movies. The genre blew up in 2014, and until 2020, around 57 BL series had been produced and released. This has led to the phenomenon of the escalation of the number of Thai BL fans in Indonesia. The aim of this research was to find out how BL Ship’s fans or shippers perceive homosexuality. Perception is a meaning making activity of a sensory stimulus through gathering and interpreting process of information or message. To elaborate it, this research used the qualitative research method with case studies approach towards the members of BL ship Off Jumpol-Gun Atthaphan’s fans kingdom. Data was gathered by interview, observation, and documentation. To analyze it, researcher conducted Glaser and Strauss’s constant comparative method, and Mahpur’s coding steps. The results showed that shippers’ perception of homosexuality more or less got affected by what they consumed through media, such as BL series and ships. Along the way, their cultural background, religious views, personal experiences and values also influenced their views of the meaning of homosexuality. Researcher suggest that the professionals who are working in the industry of this genre to be mindful and take extra care since it’s going to affect the audience’s perception.

Objective: To explain why those who live some distance from tertiary cardiac centres make less use of coronary angiography and revascularisation than those who live close by, and why people living in particular wards within certain districts make less use of services than might be expected from their level of need. Method: Semi-structured interviews with 24 general practitioners (GPs) in two English health districts (Morecambe Bay and East Lancashire), five general physicians working in district general hospitals, and four interventional cardiologists working in tertiary centres. Transcripts of audiotape recordings were analysed using the constant comparative method. Results: Those living far from tertiary centres are usually referred to general physicians before they are referred for angiography. The general physicians tend to be more conservative in their approach to treatment than interventional cardiologists. GPs working near tertiary centres are able to refer directly to interventional cardiologists. There are also logistical and economic reasons for inequitable use of services. Some GPs perceived that patients of South Asian descent undergo fewer investigations than might be expected because of communication or other difficulties. Conclusion: Use of cardiac services would be more equitable if there were interventional cardiologists based in district general hospitals who could perform angiograms for their own patients in the tertiary centres. Patients might also benefit if angiograms could be conducted in selected district general hospitals. Further qualitative research, involving both doctors and patients, is needed to explore other reasons for relatively low rates of investigation and revascularisation in certain groups of patients.

Acquiring and mastering research skills is essential for doctoral students preparing for a future in academia or research-focused positions. However, they are among the most difficult to teach, and significant practice and enculturation is necessary to attain proficiency. The subjective nature of qualitative analysis often leads students to doubt their own abilities. This paper describes how cognitive apprenticeship was paired with Lincoln and Guba’s Constant Comparative Method for Naturalistic Inquiry, using a hands-on, physical card sort approach to mentor a novice qualitative researcher. Steps followed are discussed in detail, and voices of both the mentor and mentee are shared.

Abstract. Recently, Sui, He, and Humphreys (2012) introduced a new paradigm to measure perceptual self-prioritization processes. It seems that arbitrarily tagging shapes to self-relevant words (I, my, me, and so on) leads to speeded verification times when matching self-relevant word shape pairings (e.g., me – triangle) as compared to non-self-relevant word shape pairings (e.g., stranger – circle). In order to analyze the level at which self-prioritization takes place we analyzed whether the self-prioritization effect is due to a tagging of the self-relevant label and the particular associated shape or due to a tagging of the self with an abstract concept. In two experiments participants showed standard self-prioritization effects with varying stimulus features or different exemplars of a particular stimulus-category suggesting that self-prioritization also works at a conceptual level.
