The study was necessitated by the high rate of poverty in Nigeria regardless of the foreign aids inflow into the country from 2010 to 2020. Whereas the country received foreign aids which could have resulted in poverty alleviation within the period of this study, she antithetically witnessed increase in poverty rate to the extent that the World Bank in May 2018 reported that Nigeria had emerged poverty capital of the world. According to the National Bureau of Statistics’ report, over 82.9 million persons, representing about 40.1 percent of the total population, were considered poor by national standards as at 2019. The poverty challenge inspite of the foreign aids inflow into Nigeria therefore necessitated the question on how sectoral allocation of foreign aids contributed to poverty alleviation in Nigeria from 2010 to 2020. Anchored on the Big Push Theory, the study adopted ex-post facto research design and documentary method for data collection. Qualitative descriptive method was used for data analysis. Among other things, the study found out that sectoral allocation of foreign aid resources did not contribute to poverty alleviation in Nigeria from 2010 to 2020 as those sectors critical for poverty alleviation did not receive massive investments. On the contrary, the foreign aids were split among numerous (consumption) sub-heads which rendered the aids incapable of contributing to poverty alleviation in the country. In view of the findings, the study therefore recommended the need to channel future foreign aids inflow into projects with high capital returns or the productive sectors of the economy in order to achieve a positive outcome on poverty alleviation.

This research uses an ex post facto design because researchers only took data from the Education Budget from in 2013-2019 which was subsequently concluded to be a conclusion. This research uses data collection with documentation techniques. Information can be obtained through facts stored in the form of documents. This research was conducted for 6 months, namely January-June 2019. Posture of APBD in Kota Kupang shows two different paradigms, namely the period 2013-2016 shows the proportion for indirect expenditure (apparatus expenditure) is higher than direct expenditure (expenditure for the public), while the 2017-2019 period shows that direct expenditure on society is greater than indirect expenditure for apparatus. Then the posture APBD of Education for the period 2013-2017 shows that alignments government to expenditure public are still very weak because indirect expenditure is greater than direct expenditure, but the period 2013-2017 showed a significant increase in direct expenditure compared to indirect expenditure. Likewise, the commitment of Kota Kupang Government to the implementation of the National Education System Law shows that the support Kota Kupang Government in the 2013-2017 period against the provisions Law tends to weaken because of the proportion of the education budget from the total APBD in decreased significantly from 42.36% to 25.75%. While the 2017-2019 period shows the existence of the government's partiality towards the world of education where Kota Kupang Government in addition to increasing the direct expenditure budget that oriented to reduce the burden on the households of its population also increases the education budget posture from 25.75% to 29.56%. In general, factors of leadership and commitment to development of public welfare have more influence on the preparation of budget postures in APBD Kota Kupang.

The impact of technology on commerce cannot be denied, especially in relation to trade. This study was conducted to examine the impact of electronic banking on the financial performance of Nigerian deposit money banks. The data for the study was obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Statistical Bulletin and the National Bureau of Statistics’ Statistical Bulletin for various years, as well as from published financial statements of the banks under study. An ex-post facto research design was used and a normality test was carried out to establish the goodness of the data; descriptive statistics and a multicollinearity test were conducted in which the independent variables were found good. Regression was adopted to test two hypotheses. It was found that ATM has a positive and significant association with Earning EPS and ROA; POS and NEFT significantly affect ROA only, while WEB has an insignificant impact on both EPS and ROA. It is concluded that electronic banking significantly affects financial performance of deposit money banks in Nigeria. Thus, the study recommended that deposit money banks in Nigeria should educate their customers more in the use of NEFT, WEB, and POS, and that the amount of ATM withdrawals should be increased to improve bank performance.

AbstractThe aim of the study is to examine the relationship between government revenues and the economic growth of Nigeria. The study employs exploratory and ex-post facto research designs while using secondary form of data spanning from 1981 to 2018 collected from the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS), National Bureau of Statistics and CBN statistical bulletin. The relationship is tested by using Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression technique. The result reveals that federally received revenue and Value Added Tax (VAT) have a moderate positive relationship with the economic growth. The study provides evidence that there is a need for the government to formulate relevant revenue policies that will boost government income in order to have more favourable implication on the economy.

<p><em>Poverty, hunger and unemployment are social scourges ravaging many African countries, Nigeria inclusive. They constitute great obstacles to sustainable development and pose serious threats to security challenges. With her enormous human and material potentials, Nigeria ranks the 23rd poorest country in the world. To tackle the menace of poverty, hunger and unemployment, successive Nigerian governments have initiated series of poverty eradication or poverty-alleviation programmes. But these programmes, due to corruption and inefficient leadership, availed Nigerians nothing, as 61.5% of Nigerians, according to the  National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), are living below $1.25 per day. Against this backdrop, this paper focuses attention on poverty and identifies Zakat, the third pillar of Islam, as a panacea for its alleviation. The paper discovers that lexical repetition, lexical collocation, synonyms, presuppositions and implicature are diverse linguistic features that are woven into the textual fabric of the Glorious Quran to foreground the paramount importance of Zakat as a social security towards poverty reduction.  With a view to promoting national development and security, the paper concludes by advocating for an enabling law establishing a Central Zakat (and Sadaqah) Administrative Board that will be saddled with the responsibilities of collecting Zakat and distributing it to the beneficiaries as stated in Suratu-t-Tawbah,  verse 60 (9:60). </em></p>

AbstractThe discovery of oil in commercial quantity in Nigeria in 1956 ushered in a period characterized by endemic crises of oil rents management and corporate insecurity. From 1999, democratic renewal, backed by excess oil rents returns, made the popular democratic control of oil wealth critical. The consequent rentier management of oil wealth, excluding the citizens and their huge expectations occasioned threats to national security, thus punctuating limited democratic control of oil wealth, or lack of it. Employing the ex-post-facto research design, primary data for the study were generated from focus group discussions with experts in the oil sector, while other sources were from observations of the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Customs Service, Nigerian Police, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Nigerian Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, National Bureau of Statistics, and the Central Bank of Nigeria. Logical induction was used to analyze the data. Anchored on a frustration-aggression conceptual and theoretical framework, the study found that deprivation of oil benefits to Nigerian citizens manifested in illegal oil bunkering, pipeline vandalization, cross-border smuggling of petroleum products, attacks on oil installations, kidnapping, and piracy, with attendant threats to national security.

Bernard Smith (1916–2011) was a giant on the Australian intellectual scene, and a major analyst of and contributor to the processes of cultural traffic between the antipodes and the centres of the world system. He was a lifelong Marxist, or historical materialist. Yet his scholarship also wore an open weave. Was he then a Marxist in politics? This essay argues that his historicism placed his thinking firmly with the owl of Minerva, rather than in the driver’s seat of history. Marxism, for Bernard Smith, was ex post facto, placing him with the tragic irony of Marx’s Eighteenth Brumaire rather than with the activist intent of the Theses on Feuerbach. Distance, for Smith, was everything.
