Anees Jung is one of the widely read post–independence Indian English women writers who write consciously of the issues that concern the educated middle-class women in Indian society. She attempts to closely analyze man-woman relationship within the family and the contemporary social set-up. She focuses on the captivating problems and the suffocating environs of her female characters who struggle hard in this malicious and male-dominated world to discover their true self identity. Jung does not advocate separation from the partner but a diplomatic assertion of one’s identity from silent suffering.

hetan Bhagat is one of the most influential fiction writers of contemporary Indian English literature. Postmodern subjects like youth aspirations, love, sex, marriage, urban middle class sensibilities, and issues related to corruption, politics, education and their impact on the contemporary Indian society are recurrently reflected thematic concerns in his fictions. In all his fictions, he has mostly depicted the contemporary urban social milieu of Indian society. Though the fictions of Chetan Bhagat are romantic in nature, contemporary Indian society and its major issues are the chief of the concerns of all his fictions. He has focused on the contemporary issues of middle class family in his fictional works. All of the chief protagonists of his works are sensitive youth and they do not compromise with the prevalent situations of society. Most of the characters are like caricatures that represent one or the other vice or virtue of the contemporary Indian society. The author has a mastery to convince the reader about the prevalent condition of society so that one can easily reproduce in mind, a clear cut image of contemporary Indian society. The present article is a sincere endeavor to present the detailed literary analysis of the select fictions of Chetan Bhagat keeping in mind how the contemporary Indian society has been replicated in the fictions.

The purpose of this contribution is to study three young writers who have offered, in the past three years, in a distinctively new voice, further instances of the Irish writers’ endless ability to experiment with the form of the novel. Sara Baume’s "A Line Made by Walking" (2017), Anna Burns’s "Milkman" (2018), and Eleanor O’Reilly’s "m for mammy" (2019) are three representative instances of the potential of the form of the novel in the hands of Irish women writers. Each of these novels deserve a study in its own due to their complexity and interest, but analysing them together offers us a unique opportunity to assess the thriving state of novel writing in Ireland, especially in the hands of Irish women writers.The three novels object of our study deal with identity crises, and they similarly represent their protagonists as struggling against society and its structures, be it the family, local communities, the world of art, nature or politics. Furthermore, the three authors have been able to devise alternative narrative styles, techniques and even endings that enabled them to render the complexities of the topics dealt with as well as to represent the unstable condition of their protagonists. In addition, Baume, Burns and O’Reilly have significantly chosen as protagonists female characters with artistic or intellectual aspirations who allow the authors to endow their respective narratives with metaliterary meditations on the possibilities as well as limits of language, words and wordlessness.

A family is an organized system that connects all members together to exalt happiness and share grief to each other; they do not only help and hold shoulders with shoulders to strengthens family bonds and teach each other morality of life, respect and honour but also parents scold their sons and daughters for committing any mistakes to recuperate themselves in their career. Therefore, the sacred dignity of the family has been shattered nowadays in order to grab wealth and money. As Father has certain respect and honour at home similarly brothers and sisters have assured place in their parents ‟ heart. The play The Vulture has exposed a middle class family in the urban set up that comprises many family members who can fulfil their house with happiness and pleasure but their thirst for wealth and money shattered their tranquil life. Pappa has accumulated property after so much works though he has grabbed his brother Sakharam’s part who visits his home frequently to ask his part but his all efforts turned into dust and he is insulted by his nephews Ramakant and Umakant. They all are frustrated with the established system and they all started fighting for inheritance. They batter their own father for getting his hidden money though they all know that their demands and threat are transient, they will see the same satiation as they place their father at the moment. Their pursuit has no eternity as they show themselves that they have no goal; purposelessness, meaninglessness, disillusionment prevailed in their life. They sensationalize their arguments to quench their thirst and throw out their moral duty in respect of their father and family. For gaining absurd pursuit, they replicate the vulture like behaviour to kill their own father yet they are addicted to drinking and smoking and drugs, and keeping illicit relationship and outing at night for entertainment.

Githa Hariharan is a successful feminist writer. Her first novel The Thousand Faces of Night (1992) won the prestigious Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for the best first novel in 1993. Her novels portray the struggle of female characters for their identities which are challenged by caste, religion, violence and nationality. The present paper is an attempt to examine and review the way Hariharan’s women characters encounter the orthodox roles and identity forced on them by the male-dominated social order as they try to rebuild a modern self-identity for them. For this purpose, her novels The Thousand Faces of Night, The Ghost of Vasu Master and Fugitive Histories are thoroughly studied in this paper.

Marriage is an important thing in the life of a woman. The importance that our society attaches to marriage is reflected in our literature and it is the central concern of Shashi Deshpade’s novels. In our society where girl learns early that she is ‘Paraya Dhan’, and she is her parents’ responsibility till the day she is handed over to her rightful owners. What a girl makes of her life, how she shapes herself as an individual, what profession she takes up is not as important as whom she marries. Marriage is the ultimate goal of a woman’s life. This paper attempts to probe into the problems of marriage through the protagonists of her novels where one enjoys the freedom of marriage and the other accepts the traditional marriage. Shashi Deshpade highlights the problems of marriage faced by middle-class people in finding suitable grooms for their daughters. This problem is well-illustrated through the characters of her novels. Since the girl’s mind over her childhood is tuned that she is another’s property, she tries to attach a lot of importance to it. it is indeed a tragedy that even in the modern age, Indian females echo the same sentiment where it was marriage which mattered most of them but not to the men. It is a beginning of females sacrifices in life that marriage brings to her. Shashi Deshpande encourages her female protagonists to rise in rebellion against the males in the family matters, instead she wants to build a harmonious relationship between man and woman in a mood of compromise and reconciliation.

This study entitles ―Citra Perempuan in Novel Burung Tiung Seri Gading Written by Hasan Junus‖. Problem in this research about the image of women and the gender inequities in the novel.This study aims to describe, express women‘s image and the discrimination of gender in novel Burung Tiung Seri Gading. The use of this study is to inform people in general and readers in particular about the roles and status of women in society reflected in novel Burung Tiung Seri Gading. The theory used is feminist literature criticism. This is a qualitative research. using the book study method. Primary data that is Burung Tiung Seri Gading novel Hasan Junus work published by Dinas Kebudayaan dan Pariwisata Provinsi Riau, Pekanbaru 2009185 pages thick.The steps of the research are (1) identify the female characters in literature, (2) seek the position of these figures in everyday life in society, good relations within the family or in society at large, (3) gender inequality would be viewed through a gender analysis ofits image of women in daily life. The conclusions of this study are that the roles and status of women in society get women not be able to avoid their housework and the discrimination of gender. AbstrakPenelitian ini berjudul ―Citra Perempuan dalam Novel Burung Tiung Seri Gading Karya Hasan Junus‖. Permasalahan dalam penelitian ini tentang citra perempuan dan terjadinya ketidakadilan gender dalam novel. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan citra perempuan dan mendeskripsikan ketidakadilan gender dalam novel Burung Tiung Seri Gading. Tujuan Penelitian ini adalah memberikan pengetahuan kepada pembaca khususnya dan masyarakat pada umumnya tentang peran dan kedudukan perempuan dalam masyarakat yang tercermin dalam novel Burung Tiung Seri Gading serta memberikan pengetahuan kepada pembaca tentang terjadinya ketidakadilan gender dalam masyarakat yang tercermin dalam novel Burung Tiung Seri Gading. Teori yang digunakan adalah kritik sastra feminis. Penelitian ini bersifat kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode studi pustaka. Data primernya bersumberkan pada novel Burung Tiung Seri Gading karya Hasan Junus yang diterbitkan oleh Dinas Kebudayaan dan Pariwisata Provinsi Riau, Pekanbaru, 2009 setebal 185 halaman. Kesimpulan yang dapat diambil dalam penelitian ini adalah adanya peran dan kedudukan perempuan di masyarakat membuat perempuan belum bisa lepas dari pekerjaan domestik serta perempuan adalah korban dari ketidakadilan gender.

English society at the end of the end of the 18th century viewed women in association with, and dependent on, men. Marriage was an important part of society, since it was the only accepted future for young ladies. Therefore marriage was the main focus of middle class and aristocratic women’s education and an education based on accomplishments that could, as Mary Wollstonecraft has noted, make them vain and superficial. The book studies ; Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion, and Elizabeth Inchbald’s Wedding Day, Everyone has his fault, Wives as They Were and Maids as They Are and Lover’s Vows, although coherent with their time, show independent female characters whose education allows them to think for themselves and not merely repeat opinions that they do not even understand; or just obey male orders and desires. That allows them to have a marriage based on equality. In Austen and Inchbald’s work marriage is based on love, being a union of equal minds that love and understand each other. This book discusses the situation of women at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th centuries, how the authors approch the issue of choice, female education, and marriage for love as a union of equal minds.

American families' need for out-of-home childcare increases at an accelerated rate each year; yet our society lacks a policy for—and even a national commitment to—high-quality daycare. Such a national policy needs to be formulated within an examination of the tensions between social and familial childrearing. This essay explores these contextual issues from a historical perspective. The essay discusses: first, changes in the family as they relate to changes in the economy and polity; second, the role of the family as the basis for the young child's self-identity and internalization of society's values and practices; and third, the potential implications of changing patterns of the structure and functioning of the American family. Finally, the essay examines historical and current daycare policy and practice in relation to the family and the broader social structure.
