Galakan universiti melaksanakan pengajaran dan pembelajaran (PdP) melalui metode blended learning (BL), flipped teaching dan problem-based learning (PBL) memacu program tahfiz di Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) untuk menerapkannya di dalam pengendalian kelas-kelas subjek. Kajian ini dibuat bagi melihat perlaksanaan BL secara umum di UNITEN serta menilai tahap aplikasi inovasi digital dalam pengajaran dan pembelajaran khusus bagi Program Tahfiz di UNITEN. Kajian ini merupakan kajian kualitatif yang menggunakan metode pemerhatian dan analisa dokumen berkaitan perlaksanaan teknologi digital dalam subjek-subjek terpilih di bawah Program Huffaz Profesional. Terdapat empat (4) tahap aplikasi BL yang dilaksanakan di UNITEN iaitu Technology-Aided Learning, Enhanced Learning, Flipped Teaching and Learning dan Adaptive Learning. Hasil analisa mendapati bahawa terdapat empat (4) bentuk inovasi digital yang diaplikasikan dalam program Tahfiz UNITEN. Empat (4) perkara tersebut adalah memuatnaik bahan kursus di Moodle, penggunaan audio-visual dari sumber yang pelbagai seperti PowToon, Panopto dan YouTube, penilaian berterusan yang dibuat menggunakan platform Moodle dan aktiviti-aktiviti atas talian menggunakan medium yang pelbagai seperti Kahoot, Padlet, Coggle, Mentimeter dan Plickers. Usaha ini dapat membentuk PdP pengajian tahfiz menjadi lebih efektif, menarik dan sesuai dengan perkembangan dan kehendak pembelajaran semasa, serta menyumbang kepada pembentukan generasi yang berkualiti.

Teaching and learning practices need to be revisited to revitalize education. The mundane rote learning due to excessive standardization, pedagogical red tape and routinization often become surfeited and such experiences are discussed by students and teachers alike across the globe. The focus has to shift from content and transmission to problem, process and experience-based learning. This calls for dynamic learning which is challenging since creativity takes over control; reaction takes over responsiveness. Enhanced learning practices take over routine learning providing a rich learning experience for students. Difficult situations or problems prepare and prompt deep thinking and the solutions become learning experiences. Thus problems attract our attention and focus on digging deep into energizing thoughts to solve the same. This rationale and the associated dimensions become the fertile ground for problem based teaching and learning practices. This paper explores the revitalization of education through problem based learning practices. The study highlights the need for a shift from theory base to problem based learning. Redesigning conceptual representations to experience-based, problem based and enquiry based learning can promote relational understanding.

Faculty development programs are critical to the implementation and support of curriculum innovation. In this case study, the authors present lessons learned from ten years of experience in faculty development programs created to support innovation in technology enhanced learning. Stages of curriculum innovation are matched to stages of faculty development, and important lessons for success as well as current challenges are delineated and discussed.

The study aims at examining (1) the effectiveness of the implementation of Problem Based Learning (PBL) model using Open Ended approach, (2) the students’ learning result in mathematics who were taught by using PBL model with Open Ended approach, (3) the students’ activities in teaching and learning process by using PBL model with Open Ended approach, and (4) the students’ response on learning. The study is pre-experiment research with One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The populations of the study were class VIII students at SMPN 33 Makassar of academic year 2016/2017 wich consisted of 10 classes. Samples were selected by employing Cluster Random Sampling technique and obtained class VIIIE as the research sample. Data were obtained by using learning result test instrument, observation sheet of students’ activities, observation sheet of learning implementation, and questionnaire of students’ response. The results of the study reveal that the learning result score of class VIII students in mathematics I sin high category, the mean 83.22, and deviation standar 8.549, the classical completeness is 87.50%, the mean of normalized gain is in high category, the students’ activity is in very active category, and students’ response on the implementation of PBL model with Open Ended approach is positive. The result of hypothesis test indicates that PBL model with Open Ended approach is effective to implemented in Mathematics learning to class VIII students at SMPN 33 Makassar.

We aimed to contribute to a shift in higher education teaching and learning methods by considering problem-based learning (PBL) as an approach capable of positively affecting students from a geology and environment (GE) curricular unit. In a convenience sample from a Portuguese public university, two groups of students were defined: (1) an experimental group (n = 16), to which an intervention program (IP) based on PBL was applied, and (2) a comparison group (n = 17), subjected to the traditional teaching approach. For nine weeks, students subject to the IP faced four problem scenarios about different themes. A triangulation of methods was chosen. The study involved two phases: (1) qualitative (sustained on content analysis of driving questions raised by students, registered in a monitoring sheet) and (2) quantitative (quasi-experimental study, based on data from a prior and post-test knowledge assessment). The qualitative results point to the development of more complex cognitive-level questioning skills after increasing familiarity with PBL. The data obtained in the quantitative study, which included both a “within-subjects” and a “between-subjects” design, show higher benefits in the experimental group, documenting gains in terms of scientific knowledge when using the PBL methodology.

Although blended learning (BL) has emerged as one of the most dominant delivery modes in higher education in the 21st century, there are notable barriers and drawbacks in using BL for English language teaching and learning in Vietnamese universities. This study reports on research into the use of BL, conducted through semi-structured interviews with 30 English as a Foreign Language (EFL) lecturers from 10 different universities across the two major cities of Vietnam. The findings revealed that EFL lecturers identified eight groups of barriers and four groups of drawbacks to the successful implementation of BL. The most significant barriers included: lack of infrastructure and technology, institutional policies and support; lack of knowledge, experience and investment in using BL; lack of technological competence and information technology (IT) skills and lack of teaching time to employ web-based technologies and online resources in classrooms. Meanwhile, the most crucial drawbacks were: lecturers’ workload, ineffective use of BL, time consumption and demotivation. The authors point to the underlying factors contributing to these barriers and drawbacks and make implications for how some of these can be effectively addressed through constructive changes to policy and practice.

PurposeThe present work reviews the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on architecture education (AE), with the aim of discussing the interaction and integration of technology-based models.Design/methodology/approachDifferent research methods were used to achieve the research purposes including an online survey, semistructured interviews, observations and reviewing recent literature. The study proposes a theoretical framework to investigate blended learning (BL) approaches in AE, based on the blended teaching–learning continuum, the growth of online delivery mode and technology integration and the gradual responsibility adopted for the current Covid-19 pandemic.FindingsThe study proposes a vision to reimagine post-Covid-19 education and the required BL strategy to provide a theoretical framework that integrates the instructional models required to be investigated by instructors.Research limitations/implicationsThe research findings are based on a theoretical approach not tested practically. A further detailed investigation is required. Thus, the road to reimagining the post-Covid-19 AE is still evolving.Social implicationsAs faculty members, one should take steps toward preparing BL strategies. These strategies present other alternatives to continue teaching and learning while keeping safe in any other emergency in education. In this work, an overview of BL approaches, continuum and related technological and instructional models has been shaped to propose a new vision to post-Covid-19 AE.Originality/valueThis paper responds directly to the initiated call on the pandemic's effect on traditional education by taking a pedagogical perspective. The study presents a holistic BL strategy and proposes a new theoretical and instructional model to design a suitable and balanced BL environment in AE.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate undergraduate pre-registration mental health nurse’s satisfaction with problem-based learning (PBL), in light of the dearth of such studies and to influence future teaching and learning strategies within Cardiff University. Design/methodology/approach Totally, 16 students from three cohorts were interviewed in two focus groups. Data analysis was consistent with Seidel and Kelle (1995) which involved noticing relevant phenomena, collecting examples of these phenomena and subsequently analysing these to find commonalities, differences, patterns and structures. Findings Student experiences were categorised in five themes indicating that they perceived PBL as a novel, flexible approach to adult learning, which fostered decision making and critical thinking. Student engagement with the process was heavily influenced by the contribution of the end product to their degree classification. They also expressed concerns about working in groups and whether the depth of learning was comparable with traditional methods. However, they presented well-considered recommendations for future practice to address the perceived deficits of PBL. Research limitations/implications This was a small scale study undertaken in one institution. As such the views expressed by students relate to the approach to PBL used in this institution. Originality/value This study adds to the body of research relating to the application of PBL in mental health nurse education. Well considered, student generated recommendations are presented which can enhance student motivation, engagement and learning. These are arguably of value to other educationists interested in this approach to teaching and learning.

This paper presents a model for learning in an educational leadership preparation program. The model depicts various types of teaching and learning strategies that should be included in preparation programs in order for students to learn declarative, procedural, and contextual knowledge. Specifically, the paper describes four types of problem-based learning (PBL). Grounded in research on group problem solving, reflective thinking, problem complexity, and feedback and assessment, PBL has considerable potential to increase the transfer of learning. The paper maintains that real and simulated PBL afford students opportunities to learn all three types of knowledge. Two examples capturing the process of how PBL can be used are offered.

This study focused on students’ skill in performing a speech and had conducted based on the problem. The students think performing a speech is the difficult thing, the students think there are problems appear when the students perform a speech in front of the people, suddenly forgetting the script, getting anxious, and getting blank. The researcher considered to conduct this study when doing observation at MAN 2 Parepare since the students showed fair competence in performing a speech. The objective of the study is to give some abilities and knowledge in this case Contextual Teaching and Learning that focused in Problem-based. The study applied quasi-experimental design, with two groups namely experimental class and control class. The populations of the study were the twelfth grade students at MAN 2 Parepare where the total numbers were 84 students. The samples of the study were consisted of 39 students. The result showed that the students’ skill in performing a speech of the twelfth grade students of MAN 2 Parepare could be improved through Problem-Based Learning Strategy. In performing s speech, the speakers need to be brave, except having some abilities in performing a speech.
