Against today’s backdrop of "filial piety" in society, the “filial piety” in the Analects of Confucius triggered heated debates. English reading teaching in college is an important aspect in cultivating students' listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, as well as a vital way to cultivate students' ability of using language. Many scholars have proved that language teaching and culture teaching are inseparable in reading teaching. The cultural penetration in English is emphasized by language researchers. However, a number of teachers pay more attention to words and difficult sentences in English reading teaching, they ignore Chinese traditional culture factors in reading materials and the importance of the traditional Chinese culture teaching in college. college stage is a key period of language learning. At this period, they should gradually understand Chinese traditional culture. It is a prerequisite for college students to strengthen their Chinese cultural knowledge in English learning. However, there are a few studies on the penetration of traditional Chinese culture in college English reading teaching. According to this situation, the author consults many literature surveys of recent years. From the viewpoints of students, teachers and teaching materials, the paper shows the present situation of the Chinese cultural penetration in college English reading teaching. According to the results of study, the paper puts forward some relevant teaching principles and approaches about how to conduct Chinese cultural penetration in English reading teaching.

Abstract Within China’s outstanding traditional culture lies a wealth of thought on social governance. In an effort to organize these ideas in systematic fashion, this text contains the dialogue that took place in the autumn of 2019 during a course for public administration graduate students entitled “Innovation in Social Governance.” The dialogue was between Professor Wang Ming of Tsinghua University and sinologist Meng Fanjia, who is a 74th-generation descendant of the great philosopher Mencius and an advocate of contemporary shi culture (a shi is one who aspires to become a person of noble character as defined by traditional Chinese culture). The dialogue, full of novel concepts, summarizes the definition of the word “traditional”. Their discussion was both broadly inclusive and profoundly insightful in the aspects of rite, being a man of noble character, virtue, being a scholar, goodness, filial piety, law, kinship, and morality.

The democratic situation in China is deeply influenced by the traditional culture. This article attempt to answer the question why there is no democracy in Chinese traditional culture from historical institutionalism perspective. Path dependence plays the vital role in this process. The starting point is set in Qin Dynasty. After that, the authoritarian regime has been strengthened from four aspects: the bureaucratic system, the Confucian theory, the imperial examination system, and rewards and punishing measures. These measures work from the institutions to people’s inner world. The authoritarian culture became the orthodox value in Chinese traditional culture. The authoritarian regime and traditional culture have been intertwined and strengthened each other. That is a process of path dependence from historical institutionalism perspective. This article shows us a framework of how to observe this process.
