Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate anti-inflammatory activity and cytotoxicity in vitro of hydroalcoholic extract of Bidens andicola.Methods: B. andicola hydroalcoholic extract was obtained from aerial parts of B. andicola, following a standardized methodology. Briefly, aerial parts of B. andicola were extracted with ethanol 70% v/v and defatted with n-hexane, hydroalcoholic fraction was concentrated under controlled conditions in a rotary evaporator, and finally the residue was freeze-drying to obtain the hydroalcoholic extract of B. andicola. Anti-inflammatory activity and cytotoxicity assays were carried out using in vitro isolated neutrophils model using stable water-soluble tetrazolium salts.Results and Conclusions: The in vitro anti-inflammatory assay on isolated neutrophils demonstrated that the hydroalcoholic extract showed antiinflammatoryactivity compared to aspirin, with inflammatory inhibition percent values of 80.138±0.729 to hydroalcoholic extract of B. andicola and 82.117±0.762 to aspirin, each tested in five replicates at the concentration of 200 ppm of hydroalcoholic extract or reference.

Context. Pleurotus ostreatus (P.o) is a culinary mushroom which is commonly called as “oyster mushroom” belonging to the Basidiomycetous fungi of the order Agaricales and family Pleurotaceae. Objectives. The present study investigates the anti-inflammatory potential of P.o and the underlying mechanisms of activity. Materials and Methods. Anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated using suspensions of freeze-dried and powdered (SFDP) P.o and acetone extract (AE) of P.o in normal and alloxan-induced diabetic rats using the carrageenan-induced rat paw oedema model. The mechanisms by which P.o is mediating the anti-inflammatory activity were studied using in vivo and in vitro assays. Results. At doses of 500–1000 mg/kg, the SFDP of P.o showed long-lasting activity at both early and late phases of carrageenan-induced rat paw oedema. The dose of 750 mg/kg showed the most potent inhibitory activity (92% inhibition) in healthy rats. The AE of P.o showed maximum inhibition of oedema of 87%. P.o exerted protective effects on the inflammatory pathologies in rats with diabetes. The possible mechanisms by which P.o mediates the anti-inflammatory activity were antihistamine activity (52.1%), inhibition of cell migration to the site of inflammation (45.4%), in vitro membrane stabilizing activity (52.6%), and inhibition of nitric oxide (NO) production (91.2%) (P<0.05). Dose-dependent inhibition of NO production was seen with in vitro treatment of rat peritoneal cells with AE of P.o (r = 0.95; P<0.05). Discussion and Conclusion. The promising activity of culinary mushroom P.o against inflammation suggests its potential application as a functional food during inflammatory conditions.

Epidendrum coryophorum belongs to the Orchidaceae family. Traditional uses of some species for this genus include infusions of the leaves used for kidney problems, treat influenza, conjunctivitis, liver pain, relieve kidney symptoms, and hypoglycemic effect. This work's objective was to determine the phytochemical profile of the ethanolic extract of Epidendrum coryophorum leaves and to evaluate the potential anti-inflammatory activity in vitro of the extract employing the erythrocyte membrane stabilization method. The phytochemical screening carried out in this work suggested phenols, coumarins, flavonoids, tannins, steroids, and sterols in the ethanolic extract of Epidendrum coryophorum leaves. Cardiotonic glycosides and carbohydrates were also found. The ethanolic extract's UV-Vis spectrum showed absorption maxima at 268 nm and 332 nm, which could correspond to flavonoids of the flavonoid classes, 3-OH substituted flavonols, or isoflavones. The quantitative determination of total phenols of the ethanolic extract was carried out using the Folin-Ciocalteu method. The total phenolic content expressed as mg Gallic acid equivalent (G.A.E.) per gram of extract was found to be 19,96 mgGAE/g of Epidendrum coryophorum. The ethanolic extract of Epidendrum coryophorum leaves showed hemolysis inhibition values ​​of 18,19% at 1,0 mg/mL, 38,98% at 1,5 mg/mL and 40,94% at 2,5 mg/mL compared with aspirin (positive control) giving values ​​of 65,33% at 1,0 mg/mL, 72,26% at 1,5 mg/mL and 73,75% at 2,5 mg/mL. The values ​​obtained for inhibition of hemolysis with ethanolic extract, compared with the values ​​obtained with a pure anti-inflammatory, are significant and demonstrate anti-inflammatory activity in Epidendrum coryophorum. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the in vitro antioxidant, anti-inflammatory activities of the aqueous and hydroethanolic extracts recipe of Alchornea cordifolia and Antrocaryon klaineanum. A preliminary phytochemical screening was carried out. Methods: The total phenols content was determined by the Folin Ciocalteu reagent method, while the antioxidant activity of both extracts was characterized by the 2-2diphenyl-1-picrilhidrazil (DPPH) and β-carotene assays. The anti-inflammatory activity of the extracts was evaluated as the inhibition of Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) denaturation and antiproteinase activity. Results: The aqueous extracts of Alchornea cordifolia and Antrocaryon klaineanum contained more polyphenols [270 mg Ascorbic acid equivalent (AAE)/g dry weight (dw)] than the hydroethanolic recipe extract (262.41 mg AAE/g dw) at the same concentration level. On the other hand, the aqueous and hydroethanolic recipe extract had the same radical scavenging activity with the antiradical power of 0.851 and 0.830, respectively. Similarly, the recipe extract had the same reducing activity with reducing the power of 94.2±2.03 mg EAA/g dw and 97.4±4.16 mg EAA/g dw for the aqueous and hydroethanolic recipe extract of Alchornea cordifolia and Antrocaryon klaineanum respectively. For the anti-inflammatory activity it was observed that both extracts possess the same activity as Diclofenac® with an IC50 of 50.21 μg/ml. The phytochemical screening of the extracts revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, carbohydrates, phenols and tannins, which may account for their activities. Conclusion: The plant recipe extract studied possess antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potentials, which may be beneficiary to its consumers.

The present work aimed to determine the phytochemical components and evaluate the in vitro anti-inflammatory and anti-mycobacterial effects of hydroethanolic extracts of Allium sativum L bulbs, Drypetes gossweileri S. MOORE stem-barks and Pentadiplandra brazzeana Baill roots against several resistant strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The phytochemical screenings of extracts were carried out according the colorimetric and precipitation tests to reveal the presence of phytochemical compounds. The anti-inflammatory effects of extracts were evaluated using in vitro Bovine Serum Albumin denaturation and proteinase inhibitory action assays. The inhibitory parameters of hydro-ethanol extracts were evaluated by the microdilution method agaisnt Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The phytochemical screening of hydro-ethanol extracts revealed the presence of phenols, polyphenols, flavonoids, alkaloids, cathechic tannins, triterpens, steroids, anthocyanins and leucoanthocyanins. The anti-inflammatory activity of hydro-ethanol extracts of D. gossweileri, P. brazzeana and A. sativum have shown the inhibitory concentrations 50 (IC50) values ranging from 356.70, 183.30 and 226.30 mg/mL for BSA denaturation and 31.92, 33.62 and 56.93 mg/mL for proteinase inhibitory action respectively. The hydroethanolic extracts of D. gossweileri, P. brazzeana and A. sativum exhibited moderate and weak anti-mycobacterial activities with the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) ranging from 312.5 to 2500 μg/mL. A. sativum hydro-ethanol extract has shown the highest anti-mycobacterial activity with MIC of 312.5 μg/mL against isoniazid resistant of M. tuberculosis and extremely resistant drug strain of M. tuberculosis. These results suggest that hydro-ethanol extracts of A. sativum, D. gossweileri and P. brazzeana are efficient against tuberculosis caused by multi-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains and are able to resorb the inflammation induced during infection.   Aqueous extract bark of Anthocleista schweinfurthii (ASE) was investigated for anti-arthritic, anti-inflammatory activities and phytochemicals screening. Phytochemical screening was carried out according, to LC-MS procedures, the anti-inflammatory effect of ASE was evaluated in vitro inhibition of 15-lipoxygenase (15-LOX) enzyme and  proteinase inhibiting action assays. The anti-arthritic activity was performed according to the Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) test. The chemical composition of ASE showed that it was mainly composed of isocyanate, biphenyltriol, methoxyflavanone, soscoparin and glucopyroside. In the anti-inflammatory assays, ASE showed selective inhibition of 15-lipooxygenase with IC50 value of and moderate activity against the inhibition of proteinase action with IC50 value of L. Both the methods  showed that the ASE posses good anti-inflammatory activity. ASE had strong in vitro anti-arthritic activity with IC50 of , the positive control Diclofenac had IC50 value of  The result of this study justified the use of this plant in traditional Cameroonian medicine in the treatment of inflammation.
