Based on multiple dimensions, with a contemporary college students’ self-built English learning questionnaire (r = 0.872) of 775 subjects from two universities, and with a stratified sampling (120) and optimal oblique rotation, this study found some main factors of college Non-English major students. Results show that factor composition as a whole has a unique representation law. This study provides targeted psychological guidance for students to enhance their confidence and to improve their ability of meta-monitoring. Meanwhile, it has certain enlightenment for current college-English grading, classification and stratified teaching reform and improvement of students’ interest in learning English.

College English learning now has attracted a great deal of attention, but many non-English majors students have major problems in terms of English learning, and how to improve the non-English majors' autonomous learning efficiency is the problem that the majority of English educators can not ignore. Through a college non-English major students' English learning science test survey, usual English learning and English language proficiency scores for tracking and monitoring, and data for scientific analysis, and monitoring results, this article indicates that by increasing the non-English majors' autonomous learning teaching mode, the students' efficiency and academic performance have improved significantly. From subsequent cognitive satisfaction survey for self-acceptance, this teaching mode's performance is quite satisfactory.

Triggered by the lack of students’ sense of identity in English regular class effects their language achievement, this research aimed at developing a kind of teaching mode for building students’ sense of identity with a series of teaching activities. Targeted at 55 non-English major students for one semester, the experiment was to explain the effectiveness of this kind of mode in endorsing student’s sense of identity. Here, the researcher used teaching observation and students’ feedback to collect the data. It revealed that the kind of mode can help improve students’ sense of identity, intrigue their interest, and improve their English learning efficiency. Keywords: sense of identity, college English, regular class, English class, teaching research

In this paper I posit that the application of task-based language teaching (TBLT) in web-based college English teaching (WBCET) is a possible solution to the problems arose from the on-going web-based college English teaching reform in China. A study is designed to verify the enhancement of students’ comprehensive ability in English learning through the combination of TBLT and WBCET.

In college English teaching, educators often use multimedia information technology to carry out teaching activities and present the corresponding curriculum content in detail. Based on two semesters of analysis and investigation, this paper presents an empirical study on multimedia teaching in two courses of a non-English major in one Chinese college. The results show that multimedia teaching technology can effectively enhance college students' interest in English learning, stimulate their enthusiasm, enhance the interaction between teachers and students, and cultivate their autonomous learning ability. The research suggests that colleges and universities should strengthen the hardware support and software facilities of multimedia-assisted teaching to promote the significant improvement of students' language ability.

With the acceleration of global integration, the demand for English instruction is increasingly rising. On the other hand, Chinese English learners struggle to learn spoken English due to the limited English learning environment and teaching conditions in China. The advancement of artificial intelligence technology and the advancement of language teaching and learning techniques have ushered in a new era of language learning and teaching. Deep learning technology makes it possible to solve this problem. Speech recognition and assessment technology are at the heart of language learning, and speech recognition technology is the foundation. Because of the complex changes in speech pronunciation, a large amount of speech signal data, the high dimension of speech characteristic parameters, and a large amount of speech recognition and evaluation computation, the large volume of speech signal processing requires higher requirements of hardware and software resources and algorithms. However, traditional speech recognition algorithms, such as dynamic time-warped algorithms, hidden Markov models, and artificial neural networks, have their advantages and disadvantages. They have encountered unprecedented bottlenecks, so it is difficult to improve their accuracy and speed. To solve these problems, this paper focuses on evaluating the multimedia teaching effect of college English. A multilevel residual convolutional neural network algorithm for oral English pronunciation recognition is proposed based on a deep convolutional neural network. The experiments show that our algorithm can assist learners in identifying inconsistencies between their pronunciation and standard pronunciation and correcting pronunciation errors, resulting in improved oral English learning performance.

Level-based College English teaching has lost its appeal in North China Electric Power University. To stimulate students’ motivation in college English learning, a new teaching reform under the production-oriented approach is initiated. In the teaching experiment, we took reforms in teaching materials, teaching process and assessment. Subsequent questionnaire indicates that students hold positive attitudes toward this new teaching approach. However, alteration needs to be made in order to guarantee better teaching results.

This study investigates students’ motivation in college English learning under production-oriented approach by means of a questionnaire. Forty students in their first-year study participated in this survey. They came from four different disciplines: electronic engineering, automatic engineering, mechanic engineering and power engineering. They were required to fill in the questionnaire at the beginning of the second semester before the teaching reform and at the end of the second semester when the teaching reform was conducted respectively. Our study indicates that students in increasing numbers begin to show great interest in college English learning under POA, and their intrinsic motivation in English learning has been strengthened while at the same time extrinsic motivation shows a tendency of decline. The potential implication of this finding is that POA may be effective in stimulating students’ motivation in college English learning.

Learner’s autonomy has changed many aspects of society. At the same time Learner’s autonomy has become one of the most popular issues in education, especially in language learning. A large number of countries come to realize the importance of the learner’s autonomy in colleges and the significance of mastering the knowledge and basic skills of it in education. China is no exception. Since China has a considerable amount of English learners, more and more teachers, experts and organizations begin to pay attention to learner’s autonomy in the language teaching and learning process, which has been regarded as some kind of improvement and reform in the field of education. Therefore, research on learner’s autonomy towards learning English as a foreign language among college students in China is very important. This paper is divided into seven parts: the first part is the background of College English learner’s autonomy in China; the second part explains the main factors influencing the learner’s autonomy; the third part describes the different approaches to increase learner’s autonomy; the fourth part focuses on the current problems in learner’s autonomy; the fifth part is about solutions to solve the problems; the next part states the application of learner’s autonomy; the last part is the conclusion. All in all, this paper attempts to contribute to the growing understanding of learner’s autonomy, especially towards English teaching and learning among college students in China, which will be extremely beneficial for the improvement of quality of English education, and hopefully offer some references for the future researches in this area.
