The need analysis was applied through discussion among the writing lecturers to create a learning model for writing subject. To see the effectiveness of the model, an experiment would be delivered for one class. The instrument and learning material would be validated by the experts. The research used development design. The researcher would do need analysis, creating prototype, content validation, and limited empiric experiment to the sample. In each step, there should be an assessment and revision to the drafts before continue to the next steps. The second stage, the prototype would be tested empirically to four classes at STKIP YPUP for English Department. Academic writing is noteworthy competence to be accomplished for English as a foreign language (EFL) students to fulfill their academic needs at the university. To do so, Indonesian tertiary universities accommodate and foster this competence using academic writing course. The study, therefore, sought to look into: 1. what undergraduate EFL students’ perceptions of the importance of academic writing to their current study and future career, 2. what the students’ perceptions of the difficulties of academic writing, 3. what the students’ attitudes towards their previous and future academic writing courses. The present study investigates students’ needs emerging in academic writing during classroom practices to gain insightful and profound perspectives for forthcoming needs of the course. Data were collected through a five scaled questionnaire of need analysis distributed to thirty-four EFL students from a private university, and a focus group interview involving nine participants. Results indicate 61% (Mdifficulties=3.05) of students faced difficulties in both general skills and language problems of academic writing and a new course was expected to provide moves/steps for writing the sections in a research article. The present study then suggests that e-database resources are needed for academic papers models and references hence its efficiency and flexibility in prospective academic writing.

Listening has been claimed as one of the most challenging skill to teach since many research found that the students, especially EFL students, still worried when having a listening class. Listening still gives a fear for the students as long as they couldn’t deal with their worriness in joining listening class. It may be caused by their nescience in figuring out what strategy they could use while they are trying to do listening tasks given.

This study aims to investigate metacognitive listening strategies used by EFL students in listening class. This study is to find out what strategies mostly adopted by the students in listening class. Besides, this study also tries to propose a need mapping for constructing listening tasks. The students were English Departmenet students of Universitas Tidar. In this study, the data were collected by using Metacognitive Awareness Listening Questionnaire (MALQ) adopted form Vandegrift. The results revealed that the students mostly used problem-solving strategies while doing listening tasks. The use of this strategy implies that most of the students belong to effective listeners. On the other hand, the use of mental translation is the least use among the students. These results are needed as one of the basic needs in developing listening tasks. The result could give a clear guidance and limitation for developing listening tasks for the students.

This study reports how Tutorial YouTube (TYT) is used to teach English to support learning activity in EFL class in Galuh university considering that the students still require English knowledge to complete and polish what they learn in the classroom. The language media in TYT is presented in Indonesian language because it is only for Indonesian students. In the making of TYT, students' need analysis (SNA) is required to find out students' weakness in learning English. It's usually all about what language features they need and what constructed videos need to be uploaded. The purpose of the study is to find out the process of how non-native English teacher (NNET) proceeds SNA underpinning the construction of TYT for the sake of enhancing students' English performance. This case study took place in one of private universities in West Java. One English teacher, in particular English lecturer, participated for the interview and class observation. The interview result was crosschecked with the classroom observation under the Triangulation process. The goal of Triangulation is to get deep result and finding of the research. Thus, the result shows that NNET uses SNA-based TYT. She observes what the students need by scanning them all the way through during the learning session. If she thinks that her students need enrichment in one of language features, she will construct a TYT and upload it. This kind of classroom observation might scaffold the teacher in teaching English to EFL students since the time allotment in teaching English in the class can not cope with many aspects of language features. The conclusion is TYT, as the learning media, is developed based on SNA and it is fruitfull to be implemented to fulfill what the students need in learning English.
