This paper examines students’ perception of the impact of lecturers’ ranks on their performance across departments in the Faculty of Mathematical Sciences (FMS) of the University for Development Studies (UDS), Navrongo Campus. The study used a self-designed structured questionnaire administered to 160 respondents (students) of the Faculty. All the 160 questionnaires were retrieved, which represents 100% response rate. The data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 25.0 for windows. Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) results showed that (at P<0.05) Senior Lecturers received higher ratings followed by Lecturers and then Assistant Lecturers, indicating that the ranks of Teaching Staff significantly influenced their performance across the various departments of the Faculty. Recommendations and implications for management of Higher Institutions of Learning (HIL) have been discussed. The paper contributes to the literature in the area of supervision and evaluation of the performance of teaching staff in the HIL context.

The article presents the authors ‘view on the activities of the scientific journal” Bulletin of the North Ossetian State University named after K. L. Khetagurov”. The relevance of the article is due to a significant increase in the role of research work of teachers and students of universities and the requirements for their publication activity; the importance for the university of having highly rated scientific journals and the increasing importance of the scientific publication of the university for improving the training of students. At the scientific and theoretical level, the changes that were determined by the modernization of education in the country and the need to improve the quality of scientific publications in accordance with the vector of development of international high-ranking publications and the desire of the university management and the editorial board to keep the journal in the trend of modern science are understood. Attention is paid to the problem of evaluating and reviewing scientific articles, the idea of the impact of reviews on the development of scientific knowledge is justified; the systematic work of the editorial board on the introduction of scientific research into the educational process of the university is shown. The new tasks of the editorial board are considered, the solution of which will contribute to improving the quality of the publication and the research activities of the teaching staff and students of the university. The purpose of the work is to substantiate the author’s approach to the current state, functioning and perspective view of the development of the university scientific publication and to determine its place in the modern scientific and educational space. The research methodology is based on systematic, activity-based and culturological approaches using such methods as systematization, generalization, analysis, description and comparison.

<p>Advertising has the most prominent and vital impact on buying behavior of consumers. Smart phones have gained a lot of popularity in Nepal and are considered to be a great multimedia tool. With such growing demand of smartphones, the need for effective advertising has also been raised. This paper centers on the impact of advertising on the sales volume of Smartphones. This work will shed light on how advertising can really affect a consumer’s buying decisions in a growing economy and how successful advertising can keep businesses going even in the midst of a tough competition. The entire data is collected by distributing structured questionnaire to the 150 respondents within Kathmandu valley. The outcome generated from descriptive statistic is that, most of the respondents own Samsung phone followed by iPhone and Online media is considered as the most effective adverting tool among other two. From the findings, we can also examine that there is insignificant relationship between gender and trust of information towards advertisement. Similarly, online, offline and electronic media have a insignificant association between gender, whereas influence through the advertisement of a brand has a significant association among age. Abstract Turnover among teaching staff in our universities are mostly due to dissatisfaction with their jobs. Employee job satisfaction is of utmost importance to stimulating and sustaining the interest of the individual in order to prevent employee turnover. There are many factors influencing employee job satisfaction and preventing employee turnover. Factors such as salary, working conditions, cordial relationship with colleagues at work, opportunities for job progression among several other factors. The objective of this paper was to explore the extent to which these factors, affect employee job satisfaction and prevent turnover among lecturers in the University for Development Studies using the cross-sectional design and quantitative approach of data collection. Survey questionnaires were employed as data collection instruments to elicit information from 287 lecturers recruited from the University for Development Studies within the Tamale Metropolis. Multiple regression was used to establish the effect factors influencing job satisfaction had on employee turnover. Major findings from the study alluded to the fact that salary, working conditions, working environments, carrier advancement, relationship with co-workers have significant correlation with job satisfaction and employee turnover of lecturers in this institution. On account of these findings, this paper suggests yearly salary adjustments, creates a conducive working environment for lecturers, improve upon infrastructural facilities and facilitates carrier advancement issues for lecturers so as to prevent them from exiting the institution.

This paper examines the impact of ICT on the reading habits of the students of Tumkur University. The survey was conducted using a well design and structured questionnaire. A total of 440 postgraduate students of faculty of Arts, Science and Commerce were chosen. The result of this study showed that most of the students are female (61.6%) and most of them (72.3%) are from rural areas. The study found that students read books daily at home (69.5%) followed by classroom (51.1%). The students strongly agreed that the print books are costlier than Internet sources (32.3%). The study results also indicated that students are accessed Internet every day and the students used ICT in support of their academic work. The study recommends that the university authorities in to provide more ICT facilities to all the postgraduate students. It is also necessary to conduct more ICT based learning programmes to the students.

The sixth chapter analyzes theological schools that realigned themselves with the modern research university. Several narratives are explored: the struggle between Thomas Jefferson’s University of Virginia and seminary founders like John Holt Rice; the influence of the German university through immigrants like Phillip Schaff and theologians who studied abroad; the pragmatic adaptation of the German encyclopedia for organizing theological studies; the impact of the American university’s pragmatism, social sciences, and social reform on seminaries; and the influence of progressive education and the religious education movement on theological schools. University Divinity schools led this movement, especially the University of Chicago built by William Rainey Harper, but a number of independent schools, like Union Theological Seminary in New York, sought such realignment as “theological universities.” This realignment of theological schools had significant benefits, as it increased elective studies, developed specialized fields of ministry, and brought the social sciences to theological education. However, the realignment had unforeseen problems as it widened the gap between academics and those of professional practice; distanced faculty from interdisciplinary work and church leadership; replaced the Bible as a unifying discipline with “the scientific method”; and replaced the integrative role of oral pedagogies with scholarly lectures and the research seminar.

Abstract. Solving today's complex hydrological problems requires originality, creative thinking and trans-disciplinary approaches. Hydrological education that was traditionally teacher centred, where the students look up to the teacher for expertise and information, should change to better prepare hydrologists to develop new knowledge and apply it in new contexts. An important first step towards this goal is to change the concept of education in the educators' minds. The results of an investigation to find out whether didactic training influences the beliefs of hydrology educators about their teaching styles is presented. Faculty of UNESCO-IHE has been offered a didactic certification program named university teaching qualification (UTQ). The hypothesis that UTQ training will significantly alter the teaching style of faculty at UNESCO-IHE from expert/formal authority traits towards facilitator/delegator traits was tested. A first survey was conducted among the entire teaching staff (total 101, response rate 58%). The results indicated that there are significantly higher traits of facilitator and delegator teaching styles among UTQ graduates compared to faculty who were not significantly trained in didactics. The second survey which was conducted among UTQ graduates (total 20, response rate 70%), enquiring after their teaching styles before and after UTQ, corroborated these findings.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to examine the attitude of faculty members towards knowledge-sharing in the University of Education, Lahore. The impact of personal and organizational factors that may contribute to effective knowledge-sharing among the university’s teaching staff is also analyzed. The factors affecting the willingness of the faculty members to share knowledge are broadly classified as “organizational” and “personal” factors. Design/methodology/approach A questionnaire-based survey was conducted on permanent teaching staff working at different campuses of the University of Education all over the province of Punjab, Pakistan. The survey instrument for this study was adapted from four studies. The questionnaires were distributed among 246 faculty members personally. Findings The findings of the study showed that the faculty members were familiar with the importance of knowledge-sharing and were also interested in sharing their knowledge and expertise with others. The results showed that organizational factors (trust, reward system and organizational culture) played a vital role in enhancing the knowledge-sharing attitude of faculty members. The impact of these factors on knowledge-sharing attitude was significant. Originality/value This is the very first study which explored the personal and organizational factors of knowledge-sharing in a specific academic institution from Pakistan. The findings of the research provided useful insights to the management of the University of Education particularly and other universities in general to design strategies for enhancing knowledge-sharing culture in the higher education institution. These findings may also be helpful for other developing countries.

Celebrities have been involved in endorsing various activities since the eighteenth century. This article focuses on five aspects: to examine the present status of literature available on the effect of celebrity endorsement on consumer buying behaviour; to identify whether there is any association between the three groups of consumers (supporters/neutral/opposers of celebrity endorsement); applying multi-logit analysis to identify the probability of a consumer in becoming a supporter/neutral/opposer of the celebrity endorsement based on demographic profiles of consumers; to examine the celebrity attributes likely to influence consumer purchase intentions; and, finally, to examine the perception of the Goan consumers about celebrity endorsements. Literature review revealed that no major studies have been carried out on the impact of celebrity endorsement on Goan consumers’ buying behaviour. Hence, a survey using structured questionnaire was administered among 200 consumers during June 2015 to April 2016, with a response rate of 86 per cent (received responses were 171). It was found that a significant association exists between celebrity supporters/neutral/opposers with respect to age, gender, occupation and income level, except in case of education and location. Consumers also find celebrity endorsements more attractive and influential as compared to non-celebrity endorsements. Moreover, the tested attributes show positive relationship with purchase intention, except in case of expertise and trustworthiness of celebrity. In general, it can be concluded that celebrity attributes do impact the purchase intention of consumers.

The article analyzes the development of social sciences in Brazil from a historical-sociological standpoint as seen through the construction of three disciplines: sociology, anthropology and political science. Beginning with the political and cultural context and the pre-sociology “essayism” phase, the author outlines the initial foundation and institutionalization of the social sciences (1934-64), which started with the foundation of the University of São Paulo and ended with the military coup d’état in 1964. He then goes on to analyze the crisis of the “Populist Republic” and the impact of the ideological radicalization on the social sciences, with an emphasis on the paradox of their simultaneous professionalization and consolidation through research and teaching under the military dictatorship (1965-83). Finally, the author turns to the democratic transition that ended in the “New Republic” (1984-2003), stressing the nationalization of the social sciences and the parallel diversification and split between teaching and research. The analysis of the three historical periods addresses the dynamics of the social sciences and their relationship with the central and the federal states, the hierarchy of disciplines, the dominant topics and international exchange. In conclusion, the author raises the question that is fundamental for the future, that of the crisis of national and international funding for the social sciences.

The article describes the need for timely identification and qualitative analysis of the problems of distance learning, taking into account the preferences and interests of students and university teachers, consolidating their efforts to overcome difficulties and solve problems related to objective and subjective situations, the peculiarities of using distance learning technologies in the organization of the educational process at the university. In the current situation, burdened by the spread of a new coronavirus acute respiratory infection, which is caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (2019-nCoV), the world education system (including higher education) is forced to turn to distance learning technologies. These technologies allow you to work remotely, maintaining the necessary distance, protecting the health of people (both students, teachers, and employees of higher educational institutions), excluding their close interaction during training, scientific research, in the admission campaign, in extracurricular work, etc. The authors describe the features of using the remote form of organizing training at the university so that it contributes to the maximum saving of students ‘ health, has a positive effect on their physical and mental state; minimizes the viral load in a difficult epidemiological situation; increases and develops digital literacy of students; “opens” new opportunities for remote work for the teaching staff. The article provides the data obtained in the study (survey) of the impact of the use of distance learning technologies on the health of the full-time and part-time students of the 1st – 5th year of studies of the area of training 44.03.05 Pedagogical education (with two training profiles) of the Institute of Psychology and Pedagogy Bunin Yelets State University.
