Current scientific research and industry guidelines focus on food safety, aiming to reduce unintentional food contaminations through technological and managerial measures. Due to the deceptive nature of food fraud, the fight to prevent intentional food adulteration and counterfeiting threats requires an approach that goes beyond the common food safety-based strategies and falls into the sphere of food integrity. With food integrity being an emerging discipline, a definition was proposed and the concept of food integrity climate was introduced. A food integrity climate (FIC) self-assessment tool in the form of a questionnaire, with twenty indicators and a five-point Likert rating scale was developed, expert-validated, and tested in practice in a large-scale meat distribution company. The questionnaire was designed to measure the performance level of food integrity in food businesses along the supply chain through managers’ and operators’ perceptions. Minor but interesting differences were found in the food integrity climate perceived between managers and operators as well as among the company’s affiliates. The tool helps food businesses to get a deeper insight on the human dimension behind food integrity through the assessment of five climate components in relation to four food integrity elements, identifying strengths and weaknesses regarding a company’s food integrity climate.

Background Lecture absenteeism is a widespread issue and has been reported for a large range of university disciplines. The aim of this study was to describe face-to-face lecture attendance within a Bachelor of Paramedicine cohort at a large Australian university and explore associated factors. Methods A sequential mixed method study was undertaken using lecture attendance counts, a cross-sectional questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. Attendance was recorded at four time points throughout one semester. The Lecture Attendance Scale, a standardised 34-item questionnaire with a 7-point Likert rating scale, was used to examine reasons behind students’ choice to attend lectures or not, followed by further exploration via semi-structured interviews. Results Lecture attendance ranged from 30% to 76%, with a mean of 49.2%. On analysis of the questionnaire, eight factors were identified, and these were largely supported by the interview data. Conclusion High levels of lecture attendance were not observed. This study suggests that the decision to attend a lecture can be complex and is influenced by a range of student and organisation-related factors. Understanding and utilising this information to modify and improve healthcare curricula delivery is vital, especially where there may be an association between attendance and the development of clinical skills, and professional attitudes and qualities. This is especially important in healthcare education in the post-COVID-19 pandemic era where the value of in-person education will continue to be examined.

A questionnaire was developed by the researcher consisted of 39items with 5 points Likert rating scale to collect data from randomly selected 600 teachers includingmale and female. The data were analyzed by using the mean, standard deviation, and percentage ofeach five points of the Likert rating scale. The results revealed that most novice teachers were applyingtheir learned theory in their practice regarding lesson planning & delivery, classroom management, and students’ active involvement. They were not only willing to but also were applying learned theoriesin their practice. It also came into the knowledge that there were fewer gaps between novice teachers’theory and practice. Two research questions guided the study. The population comprised 23 lecturers teaching environmental sciences courses in the Polytechnic. The research adopted a descriptive survey design. A structured questionnaire containing 20 items in 5 point likert rating scale was developed and validated by experts. Reliability co-efficient of 0.75 was established using Cronbach Alpha which shows the internal consistency of the instrument was high. Collection of data was done by the researcher. Questions were answered and analysed with Mean and Standard Deviation. Findings reveal that educational technology for teaching environmental sciences courses were not adequate. Furthermore, the said resources were not utilized. It was concluded that there was inadequate and non-utilization of educational technology, which the resulting effect could lead to graduating half-baked students.   Keywords: Adequacy; Educational Technology; Environmental Sciences; Utilization

Controversial issues in education have become more and more popular in recent years. Teachers themselves play a key role in their effective teaching, as they are the ones who are called upon to put into practice what the literature suggests in theory. This article explores the attitudes and perceptions of 33 Religious Education teachers on controversial issues, their competence (theological-pedagogical) and their concerns, regarding the teaching of controversial issues. The research was conducted in the context of two training meetings in September and October 2019, through a closed-ended questionnaire, based on the Likert rating scale. Data analysis was performed using the SPSS statistical package (version 25.0). The main conclusion is that teachers, although willing to apply the teaching of controversial issues in the classroom, nevertheless seem reluctant and uncertain about their professional and personal readiness. Therefore, the need to design a training framework for teachers, based on the model proposed by the Council of Europe on the teaching of controversial issues, emerges.
