<p>This study tries to examine the effectiveness of social skills training on feeling of loneliness and achievement motivation in nurses. The present research is an experimental study of pre-test and post-test design with a control group. The research instruments included the revised UCLA Loneliness Scale and the Achievement Motivation Test for adults. The sample size consisted of 40 nurses working in Imam Khomeini Hospital in the city of Ahwaz selected through multi-stage random sampling and assigned to two experimental and control groups. To this end, prior to teaching the social skills, both groups were pre-tested. Then, the experimental group received social skills training for 12 fifty-minute sessions but no training was provided to the control group. Upon the completion of the training course, both groups immediately took the post-tests. The results of one-way analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) and multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) showed that social skills training significantly increased achievement motivation and reduced feeling of loneliness in nurses.</p>

The purpose of this pilot study was to examine the effects of a social skills training program in helping persons with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) increase socialization skills specifically designed to lessen interaction strain with persons who are not disabled. A second purpose focused on the effects of social skills training on increasing self-esteem, self-efficacy beliefs, and self-referent thoughts of persons with MS. Participants in this study included twenty-six persons with MS who were randomly assigned to either a treatment or control group. While there were no significant differences between the experimental and control groups on any measure, the results suggest that these persons with MS maintained positive self-images and apparently experienced no particular anxiety in social interactions.

Aims: As a vulnerable group in society, orphaned and abandoned adolescents are faced with various social issues as well as lack of healthy social skills that can lead to high-risk behaviors. The objective of this study was to examine the effect of emotional intelligence skills training on the social skills of orphaned and abandoned adolescents. Methods: The present study was an interventional research with a pretest-posttest design. The sample included 30 orphaned and abandoned male teen-agers, residing in a care center, who were randomly selected and divided into intervention and control groups. The intervention group had four emotional intelligence-based training sessions. In this study, the Matson Evaluation of Social Skills with Youngsters (MESSY) was used to evaluate the variables. The results were analyzed, using SPSS Statistics 22. Results: The results showed significant difference between the mean MESSY scores in the intervention group before and after the intervention ( p < .05). There was also a significant difference between the mean scores of the intervention and control group, following the intervention. Conclusion: An emotional intelligence-based training program can be effective in improving the social skill levels amongst orphaned and abandoned adolescents as a vulnerable social group.

The current study was carried out to determine the effect of art education program on the social skills of preschool children at the age of 61-72 months attending to a kindergarten. The working group of the research was made up of 51 children in total, as experiment group (n: 26) and control group (n: 25). An experiment design with a pre/post-test control group was used in the study in order to investigate the effect of “Art Education Program” on the social skills of children at the age of 61-72 months. Also, “Social Skills Evaluation Scale/ SSES” was used in the research. In the experiment group, “Art Education Program” was applied about 40 minutes-one hour in three week days for eight weeks in total. As a result of the statistical analysis of the data, it was found that “Art Education Program” applied had an effect in favour of experiment group depending on the mean scores of the children both in experiment and control group with regard to their social skills.

Background/Objective: Researchers have traditionally reported that individuals with Down syndrome possess a strength in their social development, yet the opposite occurs with Asperger’s syndrome. Based on this premise, we sought to assess effectiveness of the social skills training program. Method: Thirty adolescents aged 11 to 14 years with Down syndrome and Asperger’s syndrome participated in the study. Results: Significant differences between both groups were detected in the posttreatment measures and a connection was found between adolescents’ learning potential and the benefits gained. Conclusions: The training program is effective at improving the social skills under evaluation in adolescents with Down syndrome; however, this benefit is greater among adolescents with Asperger’s syndrome.

Introduction This study aimed to assess the impact of a holistic combination of Occupational Therapy and Social Skills Training on occupational performance, social participation, and clinical symptoms in people with schizophrenia. Method 60 people with schizophrenia were randomly assigned to two groups. One group received standardized Social Skills Training once a week for a total of 10 sessions, while the other group received a combination of Occupational Therapy and Social Skills Training once a week for a total of 16 sessions. Results A greater increase was determined in the scores of COPM total performance/satisfaction and the Community Integration Questionnaire in the Occupational Therapy and Social Skills Training group. Furthermore, these achievements were sustained in the Occupational Therapy and Social Skills Training group compared to the Social Skills Training group at the 6-month follow-up. Conclusion The clients received the combination of Occupational Therapy and Social Skills Training showed a better improvement compared to the Social Skills Training group in terms of occupational performance, social participation, and severity of clinical symptoms. The use of Occupational Therapy in a holistic approach in psychosocial rehabilitation of people with schizophrenia can increase their functionality and social participation. Further studies are needed to assess long-term effects of Occupational Therapy in schizophrenia.

Students with emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD) are likely to require interventions to help them navigate the social demands of the school environment. Several meta-analyses of social skills interventions have been conducted, which have provided guidance and demonstrated the effectiveness of social skills training for students with EBD. This article details a framework for teaching and practicing social skills interventions. Included in it are descriptions of several social skills strategies and ways in which the teaching of them can be individualized to meet the needs of students with EBD.

ABSTRAK Jumlah penyandang autis di dunia sekitar 35 juta orang, kisaran 60.000 – 150.000 autis terjadi pada anak usia dibawah 15 tahun yang ditandai dengan adanya gangguan dan keterlambatan dalam bidang kognitif, bahasa, perilaku, komunikasi dan interaksi sosial. Terapi yang diberikan untuk peningkatan kemampuan sosial pada anak autis dilakukan terapi Social Skill Training (SST). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui Pengaruh SST dengan dan tanpa diet CFGF terhadap Kemampuan Sosialisasi Anak Autisme (6 -12 Tahun) di SLB Autis YPPA Padang Tahun 2018. Desain penelitian quasi experimental one - group pre - post test. Populasi dalam penelitian ini seluruh anak autis yang berusia 6-12 Tahun dan sampel diambil dengan convenience sampling yang berjumlah 20 orang dengan dan tanpa diet CFGF. Teknik pengolahan data univariat distribusi frekuensi dan central tedensy dan data bivariat dengan Paired T - test. Hasil penelitian terdapat pengaruh SST dengan dan tanpa Diet CFGF terhadap kemampuan sosialisasi anak autis sebelum dan sesudah diberikan terapi. Background: Communication is the way how a physician interacts with the patient; it should have nonverbal, verbal and para-verbal components. This study was designed for communication skill training on newly graduated medical and dental physicians and to compare the outcomes of training in terms of pretest and post-test results among experimental group and control groups. Materials & methods: It was a randomized, prospective, interventional study performed on newly graduated medical and dental physicians, recruited from four participating centres: Chittagong Medical College, Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital Medical College, Southern Medical College & Hospital and Chattagram International Dental College. Duration of study was from 1st January 2017 to 30th August 2017. After selecting 60 participants (experimental group: 50; control group: 10) by lottery method, informed consent was taken and all the participants of both groups appeared at a pre-test. Only experimental group attended the training program and both the groups appeared at post-test. Results: When pre-test and post-test values of experimental group was compared by t-test, the p values for proper introduction, verbal, non-verbal, para-verbal and total scores were 0.00, 0.00, 0.00, 0.00 and 0.00 respectively. During comparison post-test scores in experimental and control groups by ANCOVA, the p values for proper introduction, verbal, non-verbal, para-verbal and total scores were 0.00, 0.00, 0.00, 0.00 and 0.00 respectively. Conclusions: There was significant improvement in communication skill of physicians after receiving the training with no possibility of occurring those changes by chance. If appropriate, the results can be utilized to approach for formal introduction of communication skills training for pre-intern physicians. J MEDICINE JAN 2020; 21 (1) : 3-7

SYSNOPSISA comparison is made between two forms of treatment for patients with interpersonal difficulties—one, an established treatment in the form of brief psychotherapy, and the other, social skills training, a form of behaviour modification designed to provide or improve the social skills necessary for successful social interaction. In a pilot study using social skills training, six out of seven patients showed marked clinical and social improvement. In the controlled trial, there was evidence that both types of treatment improved behaviour, but that social skills training tended to maintain its effect for longer, even though psychotherapy patients had more than twice the number of therapy hours.
