In this paper I discuss the results of research on „Lans” in relation to the "tool box" provided by semiology. Particular attention I pay to constructing meanings of co-participating in the construction of identity and self-presentation. I also diagnose contemporary sign-functions. The article consists of three parts. The first part is an introduction, in which I outline the theoretical basis of research and use analysis of the semiological categories. In the second part I present fragments of research results. In the last part I undertake to explain the results and relate them to broader contexts of meaning, taking into account the multiplicity of optics and ways of interpreting sign-functions.

This investigation of the discourse of Australian women in the ‘new media’ context of online special interest advice fora contributes to theory about the ways in which language encodes cultural practices and mediates the social construction of identity. The linguistic self-presentation of participants in 588 asynchronous written posts to wedding planning fora was analysed. Prevalent themes were identified inductively and the degree to which each identified theme was evident in the data was measured. The study uncovered ways in which group membership criteria were expressed and found that traditional ideals of feminine perfection were reinforced. A focus of the investigation was the ways in which the participants spoke about the wedding dress. At times, it was referred to using personification as though it were a proxy for a lover. On other occasions, it appeared to function as a representation of the writer’s idealized bridal self. It emerged as a highly significant cultural object which conferred a special but temporary identity.

The article on a significant theoretical basis and an example of the programs “Widow” and “How to Talk?” presents some aspects of the transformation of the genre of “classical” interviews into modern formats. It is proved that the genre is experiencing significant transformations and gaining new features, among which are analyticity, portraiture, journalism. The main strategies reflected in the activity of popular interviewers — Yuri Dud and Irina Shikhman are considered. Among these strategies, the choice of relevant and socially significant topics, provocativeness and intimization, promoting the hero’s self-presentation, independence in assessments, a high level of emotionality and a “biographical” approach, non-linearity of the composition and others are highlighted.

The main achievements of the scientific activity of the Laboratory of Biochemical Bases of Wool Formation during the period of its existence, for 42 years (1970–2012) are presented. It is shown that during this period the laboratory developed the theoretical basis of wool formation processes, which are based on the identified patterns of relationship between the level and direction of metabolic processes in sheep, especially in the skin, with morphogenesis, structure, chemical composition and physical characteristics of wool. The research results have been widely published in various scientific journals, including foreign ones (more than 700 articles). 13 monographs and manuals, 23 methodical and one practical recommendations, several information communiqué were published, 34 dissertations were defended, including five doctoral dissertations. Scientific developments are protected by copyright certificates (five certificates) and patents of Ukraine.

This paper examines how children aged 11-16 in three European countries (Italy, UK and Spain) develop and present their online identities, and their interactions with peers. It focuses on young people’s engagement with the construction of an online identity on social media through pictures, and explores how peer-mediated conventions of self-presentation are appropriated, legitimated, or resisted in pre-teens’ and teenagers’ discourses. In doing so, we draw on Goffman’s (1959) work on the presentation of self and “impression management” to frame our analysis. Mobile communication and social network sites serve an important role in the process of self-presentation and emancipation, providing “full-time” access to peers and peer culture. Our findings suggest that there are gender differences and the presence of sexual double standards in peer normative discourses. Girls are positioned as being more subjected to peer mediation and pressure. Boys blame girls for posing sexy in photos, and negatively sanction this behaviour as being aimed at increasing one’s popularity online or as an indicator of “a certain type of girl.” However, girls who post provocative photos chose to conform to a sexualised stereotype as a means of being socially accepted by peers. Moreover, they identify with the pressure to always look “perfect” in their online pictures. While cross-national variations do exist, this sexual double standard is observed in all three countries. These insights into current behaviours could be further developed to determine policy guidance for supporting young people as they learn to manage image laden social media.

The Height of the high-speed section of the sorting slide. Design of high-speed section of the marshalling hump. To prove mathematically the absence of theoretical basis of the formula by which the height of the first profile section of the marshalling hump is calculated in the current calculation method of marshalling humps. The paper uses the theorem on the change of kinetic energy for a non-free material point in the final form, known from theoretical mechanics. The research results revealed that the formulas by which the height of the first profile section of the marshalling hump is calculated to contradict the theorem on the change of kinetic energy for a non-free material point in the final form. The research results can be used in the processing of the normative-technical document on the design of hump devices on railways and making adjustments to the dynamics of rolling the car in textbooks for universities of railway transport. The results of the calculations proved the incorrectness of the derivation of the formula for calculating the height of the first profile section of the marshalling hump in the normative-technical document “Rules and standards for the design of sorting devices on the railways with gauge 1 520 mm”.

In real life we often took identity as something given. Social media gave users the opportunity to present themselves as they wished. Social media gave chances to people to choose the kind of person they wished to be in social medai. People could then construct their identity the same as or different from their true selves in the real world. This study aimed to identify and understand the self-presentation of social media users in the construction of identity in social media and identity in real life. The study was conducted through the methods of phenomenology and avatar research. Data was gathered by by in-depth interviews and observations in informants social media accounts. The results showed several findings, namely: construction of identity in social media take the positive part of identity in the real world, informants consistently set a certain image in the social media in match to their expectations, social media became a mean of users personal branding. Informants also divided into two categories: first, the group that consistently maintain the image they were trying to build. second, groups that occasionally appeared different from the image they wanted to construct.

A kind of new bionic quadruped robot-Hound was designed. Determined the structure of the robot body and geometry relationships based on the bionics research, especially the structure of legs which was the root of robot action. According to the problem of abundant leg segments and complicated structure, studied on achieving the optimal design of leg structure so as to increase the workspace area of robot leg and improve the flexibility of robot body. Found the best length ratio of leg segments through the analysis of the workspace, flexibility, obstacle crossing height of robot. These research results provided the reliable theoretical basis for the structure optimization of robot leg and could greatly promote the motor ability of hydraulic quadruped robot.

The ultimate goal of learning the English language is oral communication. Virtual scenario teaching (VST) provides the speaking and listening opportunities for learners of spoken English, and allows students to actively participate in the creation of an English environment. Based on VST, this paper summarizes the status quo of spoken English teaching, applies VST to the teaching of spoken English, and evaluates the teaching effect. The results show that VST enhances the students’ ability of language expression, and stimulates their learning interest. With the aid of VST, students can master relevant knowledge, learn spoken English more fluently, and acquire better skills of oral expression. About 95% of teachers speak highly of VST. The research results lay a theoretical basis for reforming and improving the teaching of spoken English.
