Entering the world of Interactive Digital Television (iDTV) applications can lead to an exhaustive process that involves reading extensive standards and may need a robust middleware solution to run Ginga-NCL applications, which is a subset of Ginga and the standard for interactivity of digital television adopted in Latin America countries. Even though there are some open and commercial solutions for development of Ginga applications available on the market, most of these solutions present downsides such as deep dependency of Ginga engine implementation, need of complex en- vironment setup and they are not very intuitive NCL/NCLua coding platforms. To solve these issues, we created an IDE developed in web technology that makes possible for students and professionals to learn how to develop Ginga-NCL applications. With this tool, developers can write, validate and experiment their applications entirely on the web environment, with no software installation required.

Beginning in the early 1980s, end-user computing (EUC) began to permeate organizations following the advent of the personal computer and a host of applications directed at the non-IS professional. Along with EUC came a whole new set of organizational opportunities and risks. Ten years later, the World Wide Web has opened the door to a yet more powerful set of EUC applications capable of reaching well beyond the boundaries of the organization. Indeed, Web technology permits end users to design applications that are immediately accessible by unlimited numbers of people from anywhere in the world. As a result, EUC using Web technology has introduced a whole new set of opportunities and risks for organizations. The purpose of this research is to examine what strategies organizations are using in their attempt to maximize the benefits of the Web for end users while mitigating the inherent risks. To this end, individuals from 12 major organizations were surveyed via the Web. The results indicate that while organizations seem to be doing an adequate job of establishing roles and standards, mechanisms for resource allocation, development management, and maintenance appear to be lacking. In fact, most firms seem to be relying on a monopolist control strategy at this point in time. While such a strategy may be the best approach given the relative infancy of Web technology, it could prove to be an unstable strategy in the long run given the reach, range and flexibility of access that Web technology provides. Organizations are encouraged to take a proactive, formal posture toward EUC development on the Web.

Hypertext and Web technology still continue to excite many, ever since it became popular in the late 1980s. Early visionary thinkers such as Bush (1945), Engelbart (1963), and Nelson (1987) in their own ways believed that hypertext and its underlying philosophy would enable man to locate, retrieve, and easily use the store of human knowledge that lies in books, journals, and associated materials in libraries all over the world.

In general Latin America countries function differently in respect to the rest of the world because of their geographic allocations, economic and social situations. The areas of science and technologies are not excluded from this general rule. Thus, the following question arises : How has the area of analytical x-ray analysis techniques developed in Latin America in respect to the developed countries?

Contrary to a key assumption of the TV industry, interaction with digital interactive TV (iTV) programmes and ads is driven as much by social motivations as it is by information seeking. This insight was revealed by a survey of a representative sample of 867 digital TV households in the UK, which has one of the largest and most experienced digital iTV audiences in the world. This new survey used a comprehensive but efficient set of motivation items, so that no important motivations were left out, which may explain why social motivations emerged as important in this study, whereas they have not been in studies of traditional TV watching. Suggestions are made for how marketers and programme producers can make iTV content that appeals to viewers who are motivated by social needs.

The World revolves around the web technology at present. Every year, the Web information are exponentially growing and this information are huge and complex. The web users are difficult to classify and extract useful information from the web, because the Webinformation are noisy, redundant and irrelevant and also misclassified. Many researchers don’t have strongknowledge about the process of web page classification, techniques and methods previously used. The objective of this survey is to convey an outline of the modern techniques of Web page classification. In this survey, the recent papers in this area are selected and explored. Thus this study will help the researchers to obtain the required knowledge about the current trends in web page classification

With the availability of information in the World Wide Web its access and retrieval by the users is facilitated, and the Library and Information Science (LIS) field’s knowledge and techniques can be applied to this environment in order to help with the process. The present study is descriptive, qualitative and exploratory, based on bibliographical sources, in which it was explored how the Classification discipline interacts with Linked Data, focusing on the analysis of Dewey Linked Data. From four catalogs analyzed, referred to in the literature as adhering to Dewey Linked Data, only two actually has links in their records redirecting to the system. Despite this, its presence in The Linked Open Data Cloud appears as a positive factor in its dissemination, since it boosts its visibility. It is concluded that the Classification discipline allows the thematic standardization of information resources, so that there is uniformity in the Web environment and quality retrieval of information, while promoting interoperability between data in the Linked Data context. The standardization of metadata values using classifications optimizes the representation of information and its retrieval in the Web, while also providing the reuse of data. In addition, studies that align the area of Library and Information Science with the Semantic Web and its technologies can provide new perspectives for the area, as well as contemplate the users’ always changing needs, thus, fulfilling the objective of the field.

We live in an unprecedented time, the covid19 outbreak has paralyzed the world including medical students. They remain in quarantine in the hope that the pandemic will end. The Latin America countries are particularly affected by their lack of resources and the time when medical students return to the universities is lengthening. Meanwhile the use of online platforms to resume the classes and the variety of online courses to complement the learning seems promising and should be more widely disseminated.

AbstractScience, Technology and Society (STS) field shows a clear consolidation, manifested in the existence of journals, conferences, a common language and the possibility of identifying a set of actors belonging to him. However, the demarcation of the field is not easy. Therefore, the aim of this study is to present a new methodology to identify and analyze the STS publications in the world and particularly in Latin America. Using the Web of Science database, 47,349 documents (4.6% from Latin America) where recovered and the main bibliometric indicators of activity and specialization were obtained. To study the thematic and the intertextual relationships of publications, bibliographic coupling techniques — to identify “Bibliographical clusters”— were used. Through this approach we try to know the thematic structure of STS research and analyze their dynamics over time.

BACKGROUNDThe covid-19 pandemic has considerably affected the mortality numbers of many countries in the world, and Latin America is now the epicenter of the diseases. There is a great demand on analyzing the impact of this new disease in the amount of deaths, but available information of deaths by cause is still lacking in most of the countries in the region. OBJECTIVEWe aimed to measure the effects of the disease on mortality, using excess mortality, in two Latin America countries that were most affected by the covid-19 pandemic in the region: Brazil, Chile, Ecuador and Peru. METHODSWe measured the effects of the pandemic by looking at the excess mortality, and comparing estimates of differences in the average number of deaths, variation coefficients and percentages of deaths between the months of March to May for 2019 and 2020. RESULTSOur findings indicated an excess of deaths initially in major cities, but then is spreading towards the least urbanized areas. In the next phase, pandemic will probably affect countries’ cities in worse socioeconomic and sanitary conditions. In Ecuador, we saw that the most affected locations were the less socioeconomic areas of the country. CONCLUSIONDespite the lack of information on causes of death, the excess of deaths is a good indicator for measuring the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, especially in the context Latin America countries. We find strong evidence of the pandemic’s impact and interiorization, especially in Brazilian cases. CONTRIBUTIONThis study provides an initial discussion of the effects of pandemic in small and less urbanized areas of Brazil and Ecuador.
