This certified methodology shows the steps to be taken by contractors and builders of small water reservoirs with a special focus on preserving and archiving cultural value of historic landscape and its evolution. The methodology describes how to find and use defunct relics of historical waterdams in modern constructions (water retention dams), from identification in the landscape, through incorporation into the project documentation of the dam construction, to basic protection during the building process itself. State legislature on historic landscape is also mentioned. Re-utilisation of historic waterdams allows for their conservation for future generations and points at features of the historic dams at risk of destruction, and which need archaeological attention during the construction works (especially the historical drainage outlet). This methodology is praxis driven, as it is actively using knowledge gained through close co-operation with contractors and builders, and reflects their needs during construction.

Man or machine hours needed by various resources to complete construction works are the basis for work estimation and scheduling. In particular, they enable the planner to estimate labor costs or time needed to complete the task, review the resource of workload and availability of resources assigned to particular task, check the possibility of sharing resources across various tasks and determine other rates and factors useful in works scheduling. The project schedule can be analyzed both without or with and in consideration of risk of the end date of the project being pushed out or going over budget on the project. Issues presented above are the subject of this paper. The methods of solving described problems consider the optimization of a loss that derives from partial utilization of assigned the resources.

Although cognitive science is an interdisciplinary field, its central questions are ‘what is humanity?’ and ‘what is emotion?’ Since the field of theatre and performing arts is deeply concerned with humans and emotions, we expect that it will contribute to the understanding of these concepts. Immersive theatre is an experimental performance form that emphasizes site, space and design while immersing spectators in a play. The number of immersive theatre companies or productions has been growing worldwide. This paper discusses Punchdrunk’s Sleep No More, directed by Felix Barrett and performed in London (2003), New York (2011-) and Shanghai (2016-). While elucidating the cognitive impact of immersive Shakespeare performances on spectators, this paper aims to uncover new artistic and cultural value in Shakespeare plays performed in an experimental form in order to advance their contemporary relevance.

The techniques for preventing risk have traditionally been analyzed on an individual basis, it being highly complex to apply preventive procedures across the board in construction works. This implies the necessary risk assessment based on the common factors of Safety at Work, Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics and Psychosociology. This work analyzes and classifies the environments which characterize the building process: absolute (initial), documentary, construction, social and life cycle, and identifies the technical-documentary processes associated with each one. Finally, a new risk assessment method adapted to building works is proposed, called “Level of Preventive Action”, by means of a new mathematical formula which encompasses Safety at Work, Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomic and Psychosociological factors. It is based upon the development of the William T. Fine method, adapting it to construction works, with the incorporation of six parameters to explain the degree of correction. It consolidates and connects environment parameters to determine the preventive action level of the construction work, with the objective of establishing the levels of preventive control required to achieve an optimum prevention situation. The results of comparison between the environments in the implementation of the new risk assessment methodology during the construction process in a real building work are shown.

The wooden structures are most common on the roofs of historical buildings. The ancient building techniques that were employed such as the use of notched joints are no longer known today. This lack, affects the project and implementation of restoration of these structures, and demonstrates, therefore, the importance of its preservation as a legacy to future generations. As result, the decision to restore heritage structures is the key to safeguarding the cultural heritage. The designer should be aware of the consequences of choosing some intervention techniques on preserving the cultural value of the monument. The technique may harm or benefit such as the patrimonial as the technical issue, preserving its historical and cultural value, durability and safety. Although there are important technical manuals and books that refer to the restoration of ancient roof structures published by Brazilian governmental agencies, there are not references about the consequences of certain technique´s application on the patrimonial value. Thus, this work analysed, critically and reflectively, the technical solutions most commonly adopted by Brazilian designers on the restoration of the structural roofs in ancient wooden structures. This analysis will be based on principles and recommendations of the key documents and the charters of heritage preservation. After the evaluation of restoration techniques most commonly applied to restoration of roofs with wooden structures, general procedures are recommended in order to ensure the safeguarding of the heritage.

Over the years researchers have paid little attention to the performance of the clients in the building industry. Much of the research on improvement of performance of the construction industry has mainly focused on contractors and the supply chain. The performance of a client is important because any decision made will affect project success. Failure on the part of the client might lead to stress factors causing significant problems in successive stages of the project. This research is an investigation into the roles of the client to find out whether clients in the building industry in Uganda are playing their part. Due to the non‐specific nature of clients, a guided questionnaire survey was carried out among architects who normally work with different types of clients. The majority of the building clients in Uganda are individuals followed by limited liability companies. It was found out that delay by clients in paying the contractors is a major factor affecting the performance of contractors. Almost all clients do not support training of the workers in its different forms. Construction works start before the designs are completed and the majority of the variations is due to incomplete briefs and designs. Many clients or their representatives do not attend meetings as regularly as would have been necessary. This study reveals information that will help clients in their future projects for ensuring successful building project implementation.

This concluding chapter draws connections and comparisons across the varieties of religious freedom talk described in the book. Religious freedom emerges in this book as an eminently malleable discourse, a shared cultural value that can be defined and deployed in many different ways. It has worked historically to shape the contours of religion in opposition to the secular and the political, and the boundaries between racial and religious identities. It has served as a mechanism for U.S. imperialism and an avenue of resistance to empire. The ideal of religious freedom cannot be removed from the coercions of modernity, but like any ideal its prospects and possibilities remain open for future generations to define.

The management of historic buildings is achieved through several types of interventions. The interventions are established in relation to the degree of protection through the List of Historical Monuments, or through its intrinsic value mentioned by the preliminary studies. In principle, within a historical area, cultural values can be exceptional, high, medium and null. Safeguarding historic areas is considered fundamental to the local culture of each settlement. The patrimony of a community represents the accumulation of experiences, of crafts and arts, of its development. Heritage is the legacy left to future generations. Therefore, any intervention in a protected area must be subject to the rules for the protection of the original substance and valuable compositional elements. Another important goal is focused on managing the concept of built value. Thus, it must be borne in mind that any cultural objective must be doubled by a certain value of use. Any space that requires preservation will be better maintained if used. Consequently, the management of cultural value, involves the management of functions, strategies for establishing development directions. This balance can be ensured through intervention regulations that can provide for permitted, conditional and prohibited uses. In the article we present the ways in which interventions on historical monuments can be managed. The main professional concepts must be supported by effective urban instruments, implemented at administrative level. We also aim to present possible strategies for attracting investors and promoting architectural heritage resources. The balance of decisions, the process from the study of cultural value, to the implementation of the intervention categories and to the realization of the projects represent the main focus of the study. Our conclusions will be based on the project made for the protection and restoration of the historical center of Craiova.

Natural conditions for the reconstruction of fish ponds and possibilities of their use in ecotourism The paper comprises an analysis of the environmental impact of restoring small water retention in the Świergotka River. Hampering water flow due to river damming by 0.5 m and reconstruction of ponds will have a favourable effect on the valley's nature but may result in excessive water eutrophication in case of using these reservoirs for fish-farming.
