AbstractThe present study aimed to evaluate growth performance and meat quality of broiler chicken with respect to feeding of 100 g flaxseed meal (FM)/kg and increasing lysine levels in the broiler diet. The results revealed no effect of lysine and FM feeding on growth performance except for a negative effect of FM on feed efficiency of birds, which was countered by feeding 1.25 BIS lysine. Feeding FM improved the fatty acid profile of broiler chicken meat significantly, whereas no effect was observed for increasing lysine levels beyond BIS recommendation. FM significantly reduced meat cholesterol, fat, water-holding capacity (WHC), extract release volume (ERV) and antioxidant potential, whereas it increased the pH of fresh meat, drip loss and lipid peroxidation of broiler chicken meat. As compared with other lysine levels, generally 1.25 BIS lysine significantly increased the pH of refrigerated stored meat, WHC, ERV and antioxidant potential, whereas it significantly reduced cholesterol, fat, drip loss and lipid peroxidation of broiler chicken meat. Thus, the inclusion of 100 g FM/kg diet along with 1.25 BIS lysine in broiler ration was optimum for desirable broiler performance, fatty acid profile, oxidative stability and other functional properties of broiler chicken meat.

A feeding trial was conducted to investigate the effect of Probiotic (Biofast) on the growth performance and meat quality of broiler chicken. Ninety six 1-d-old mix sexed Cobb 500 broiler chicks were obtained from a local commercial hatchery. Chicks were randomly allocated in 2 experimental treatments for 5 wk. The experimental treatments received a 1) control, 2) control with probiotic Biofast 0.055% (bacillus subtilis-100%) in the diet. Both treatments had 48 broilers arranged in 4 replicates of 12 broilers each. Eight birds from 2 different groups (one/replication) were sacrificed on termination of the feeding trial of breast, thigh to investigate the meat quality. Feed intake in treatment T1 was significantly (P > 0.05) greater than control in 0 to 3 weeks of age. Though in starter phase treatments failed to induce any marked effects on body weight, weight gain and FCR but numerically increased in T1 than control. In finisher period (4-5 wks), there were no significant differences on body weight, weight gain, feed intake and FCR between the treatments. The organ weight like liver, heart, kidney, spleen, gizzard, abdominal fat and intestine weight also did not show any significant differences between the dietary treatments of control and Biofast. In addition, though the dressing % was not significantly different but numerically higher percentage was found by using Biofast. Similarly, no significant differences (p>0.05) were found in pH, cooking loss, meat color and TBA values between the treatments. In conclusion, supplementation of Biofast in diet has no significant effect on the growth performance of broiler chicks though it has got some positive effects on other parameters that indirectly revealed to enhance meat quality of broiler chicken as well as food safety issues. This study was conducted to determine the effect of neem leaf infusion on growth parameters, carcass characteristics and meat quality of broiler chicken. One hundred and sixty, seven days old broiler chicks of cob strain were used for the experiment which was laid out in a completely randomized design (CRD). Each group was sub-divided into four replicates of 10 birds. The chicks in group 1 served as control and antibiotics were administered to them while 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3% concentration of neem leaf infusion were administered to bird on groups 2, 3 and 4, respectively. The period of experiment was six weeks. The birds were fed ad libitum. One bird close to average final weight was selected randomly in each replicate and was slaughtered at 42nd day of the experiment. Meat samples from breast muscle of the bird were subjected to cooking weight loss, refrigeration weight loss and sensory evaluation. The data obtained were subjected to one-way Analysis of Variance. Results revealed that there were no significant (p>0.05) effects of neem leaf infusion on weight gain and feed conversion ratio while water intake was influenced (p<0.05) at the starter phase across the treatment groups. It was only feed intake that was influenced (P<0.05) by the Neem leaf infusion (NLI) at the finisher phase. The heart was the only parameter that was significantly (p<0.05) affected among the carcass parameters. The cooking loss increased (P<0.05) with higher concentration of the infusion while refrigeration weight loss percentages were similar (P>0.05) across the treatments. The result on Sensory evaluation showed that only colour, tenderness and overall flavour were significantly (P<0.05) influenced. The study concluded that administration of aqueous Neem (Azadirachta indica) leaf infusion in drinking water of broiler chicken as alternative to antibiotics did not pose any adverse threat on the performance and meat quality of broiler chicken.     Cette étude a été menée pour déterminer l'effet de l'infusion de feuilles de neem sur les paramètres de croissance, les caractéristiques de la carcasse et la qualité de la viande du Effect of neem (Azadirachta indica) leaves infusion on growth performance and carcass quality of broiler chickens  poulet de gril. Cent soixante poussins de poulet à griller de sept jours de souche d'épi ont été utilisés pour l'expérience qui a été présenté dans une conception complètement randomisée (le 'CRD'). Chaque groupe a été subdivisé en quatre répliques de 10 oiseaux. Les poussins du groupe 1 ont servi de contrôle et des antibiotiques leur ont été administrés tandis que 0,1, 0,2 et 0,3 % de concentration d'infusion de feuilles de neem ont été administrés à l'oiseau sur les groupes 2, 3 et 4, respectivement. La période d'expérience était de six semaines. Les oiseaux ont été nourris ad libitum. Un oiseau dont le poids final est proche de la moyenne a été sélectionné au hasard dans chaque réplique et a été abattu au 42e jour de l'expérience. Des échantillons de viande prélevés sur le muscle mammaire de l'oiseau ont été soumis à la perte de poids de la cuisson, à la perte de poids de réfrigération et à l'évaluation sensorielle. Les données obtenues ont fait l'objet d'une analyse à sens unique de la variance. Les résultats ont révélé qu'il n'y avait pas d'effets significatifs (p>0,05) de l'infusion de feuilles de neem sur le gain de poids et le rapport de conversion des aliments pour animaux, tandis que la prise d'eau a été influencée (p<0,05) à la phase de démarrage dans tous les groupes de traitement. Ce n'est que la prise d'aliments qui a été influencée (P<0,05) par l'infusion de feuilles neem (NLI) à la phase finale. Le cœur était le seul paramètre qui était significativement (p<0,05) affecté parmi les paramètres de la carcasse. La perte de cuisson a augmenté (P<0,05) avec une concentration plus élevée de l'infusion tandis que les pourcentages de perte de poids de réfrigération étaient similaires (P>0,05) à travers les traitements. Le résultat de l'évaluation sensorielle a montré que seules la couleur, la tendresse et la saveur globale étaient significativement influencées (P<0,05). L'étude a conclu que l'administration de feuilles de neem (Azadirachta indica) dans l'eau potable du poulet de gril comme alternatif aux antibiotiques ne posait aucune menace négative sur la performance et la qualité de la viande du poulet de gril.

In this trial we aimed to assess the effects of dietary supplementation of 4-O-methyl-glucuronoarabinoxylan (4OMG) on growth performance, thigh meat quality and small intestine development of female Partridge-Shank broilers. A total of 240 1-day-old female Partridge-Shank broilers were randomly distributed to four groups with three replicates of 20 within each group. Groups received either 0, 15, 20 or 25 g 4OMG/kg DM of diet. During the whole experiment of 60 days, broilers had ad libitum access to water and feed. At pen level, feed intake was recorded daily and broilers were weighed at the start and end of the experiment. For each group, three pens with a total of 20 broilers were randomly selected to determine the thigh meat quality and the small intestine development of broilers. Broilers fed diets with higher 4OMG had greater final liveweight (P = 0.004), daily bodyweight gain (P = 0.004) and gain-to-feed ratio (P &lt; 0.001), muscle pH values (P = 0.031) and redness (P = 0.001), duodenal weight index (P = 0.042), jejunal (P = 0.043) and ileal length (P = 0.049), duodenal (P &lt; 0.001) and ileal villus height (P = 0.008), but lower percentage of dead birds (P &lt; 0.001), drip loss (P = 0.042) and shear force value (P = 0.043) of the thigh muscles. These results indicate that increasing dietary supplementation of 4OMG may improve growth performance and meat quality of female Partridge-Shank broilers through better development of small intestine.
