En el presente trabajo de investigación se evaluó la percepción de aplicaciones de anatomía 3D en relación a una estrategia de enseñanza basada en fundamentos cognitivos de la manipulación de imágenes digitales. Dos grupos de estudiantes ingresantes a la carrera de medicina recibieron entrenamiento en el uso de aplicaciones de software de anatomía en 3D, sólo uno de los grupos recibió información adicional sobre las limitaciones de la memoria en la retención de imágenes tridimensionales y estrategias para el uso apropiado de los controles de rotación que evitan la sobrecarga cognitiva. La percepción se evaluó con un modelo de aceptación de tecnología (TAM) y se constató una diferencia significativa entre ambos grupos a favor del grupo entrenado. Interpretamos Inferimos que la incorporación de aplicaciones de anatomía 3D en dispositivos tradicionales de pantalla 2D, tendrá mayor aceptación (es decir, probabilidad de uso futuro) cuando está acompañada de una estrategia de autoregulación para evitar los efectos de desorientación que producen las rotaciones no controladas características del uso autodidacta. In this research work the perception of 3D anatomy applications was evaluated in relation to a teaching strategy based on cognitive foundations of digital image manipulation. Two groups of students entering the medical career received training in the use of 3D anatomy software applications, only one of the groups received additional information on memory limitations in the retention of three-dimensional images and strategies for appropriate use of rotation controls that avoid cognitive overload. Perception was evaluated with a technology acceptance model (TAM) and a significant difference was found between both groups in favor of the trained group. We interpret We infer that the incorporation of 3D anatomy applications in traditional 2D screen devices will have greater acceptance (that is, probability of future use) when it is accompanied by a self-regulation strategy to avoid the disorientation effects produced by the characteristic uncontrolled rotations in self-taught use.

The main priority of middle ear surgery is to create a safe and optimal view of the surgical field, as well as the most accurate visualization of anatomical structures, which is a driving factor in the evolution of otosurgery. The additional information provided by three-dimensional (3D) images has been proven to improve understanding of the temporal bone anatomy and improve the operator’s ability to assess associated diseases, thereby optimizing surgical management. In the presented experimental research work, a new technique for visualizing the surgical field is described, which improves the quality of the operator’s work and expands the possibilities of middle ear surgery. On the basis of the Chair of Otorhinolaryngology of the Mechnikov North-Western State Medical University a remote adapter for an endoscopic tube was created, which allows you to broadcast the video image received from its distal end to virtual reality glasses. For a detailed understanding of the principle of information transmission in a new three-dimensional reality, we used concepts such as disparity and stereopsis. All research results were evaluated according to the NASA Task Load Index scale. Analyzing the results of the experiment, in the conditions of three-dimensional visualization of the surgical field, a lower level of subjective workload was revealed, which was regarded as a positive effect of the realization of the phenomenon of stereopsis, when performing manipulations on the middle ear.

PurposeThe purpose of the study is to examine the relationship between the application of smart electronic systems, firm characteristics and efficient energy consumption: a case of public universities in Uganda.Design/methodology/approachThe study adopted both quantitative and qualitative approach as well as descriptive cross-sectional survey design tantamounting to an experimental-observation approach. A sample of four public academic universities were explored using primary data. A semi-structured questionnaire together with an evaluation form and a tested experimental kit (from one of the leading electronics centres in Uganda) was used to examine the consumption rates of different electronic appliances of less than 30 Amps. Further, a Pearson product moment correlation (r) analysis was also used to determine the direction of a relationship among the variables together with a linear relationship (regression) to predict a linear association of one or more variables. Recommendations were also given.FindingsSmart electronic systems make a significant determining factor to both firm characteristics (age, number of students, administrative staff and support staff) as well as efficient energy consumption. Nonetheless, there is no significant difference of efficient energy consumption as far as firm characteristics are concerned.Research limitations/implicationsResults support the contributions of the theory of technology and acceptance model by affirming that a number of factors influence the usefulness and ease of use of the smart electronic systems, which in turn influence energy consumption.Practical implicationsUniversities' management should endeavour to install smart electronic systems. Second Life is a three dimensional multi-user virtual environment within the Web 2.0 suite of applications which has gained wide spread popularity amongst educators in the recent years. However, limited empirical research has been reported on the adoption of Second Life, especially within higher education. The majority of technology adoption studies concentrate on analysing effects of utilitarian variables on adoption of a new technology however one should also focus on the hedonic effects when it comes to the adoption of Web 2.0 technologies which are highly interactive, involving, multi-user and entertaining. In this paper, the authors analyse the effect of utilitarian and hedonic behaviours on adoption of Second Life in a higher education context. To achieve this goal the authors propose an extension to Davis’ Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) by including emotional and imaginative responses as hedonic behaviours and usefulness, ease-of-use and computer self-efficacy as utilitarian behaviours. Empirical evaluation of the proposed model suggests that hedonic behaviours, emotional responses in particular, emerged as the strongest predictors of Second Life adoption. The study findings further suggest that traditional technology acceptance approaches may fall short in being able to explain the usage of today’s highly interactive, multi-user and entertainment-oriented technologies.

Context. The advent of deep, multi-wavelength surveys, together with the availability of extensive numerical simulations, now allow us for the systematic search and study of (proto)clusters and their surrounding environment as a function of redshift. Aims. We aim to define the environment and to identify overdensities in the VANDELS Chandra Deep Field-South (CDFS) and UKIDSS Ultra Deep Survey (UDS) fields. We want to investigate whether we can use Lyα emission to obtain additional information of the environment properties and whether Lyα emitters show different characteristics as a function of their environment. Methods. We estimated local densities using a three-dimensional algorithm which works in the RA-dec-redshift space. We took advantage of the physical parameters of all the sources in the VANDELS fields to study their properties as a function of environment. In particular, we focused on the rest-frame U − V color to evaluate the stage of evolution of the galaxies located in the overdensities and in the field. Then we selected a sample of 131 Lyα-emitting galaxies (EW(Lyα) > 0 Å), unbiased with respect to environmental density, from the first two seasons of the VANDELS survey to study their location with respect to the over- or under-dense environment and infer whether they are useful tracers of overdense regions. Results. We identify 13 (proto)cluster candidates in the CDFS and nine in the UDS at 2 <  z <  4, based on photometric and spectroscopic redshifts from VANDELS and from all the available literature. No significant difference is observed in the rest-frame U − V color between field and galaxies located within the identified overdensities, but the star-forming galaxies in overdense regions tend to be more massive and to have low specific SFRs than in the field. We study the distribution of the VANDELS Lyα emitters (LAEVs) and we find that Lyα emitters lie preferentially outside of overdense regions as the majority of the galaxies with spectroscopic redshifts from VANDELS. The LAEVs in overdense regions tend to have low Lyα equivalent widths and low specific SFRs, and they also tend to be more massive than the LAEVs in the field. Their stacked Lyα profile shows a dominant red peak and a hint of a blue peak. There is evidence that their Lyα emission is more extended and offset with respect to the UV continuum. Conclusions. LAEVs are likely to be influenced by the environment. In fact, our results favour a scenario that implies outflows of low expansion velocities and high HI column densities for galaxies in overdense regions. An outflow with low expansion velocity could be related to the way galaxies are forming stars in overdense regions; the high HI column density can be a consequence of the gravitational potential of the overdensity. Therefore, Lyα-emitting galaxies can provide useful insights on the environment in which they reside.

The aim of this research is to examine factors influencing consumer acceptance of internet of things technology (IoT) guiding by the technology acceptance model (TAM). This quantitative research involves 204 respondents approached via convenience sampling at a public higher learning institution. Data was analyzed using multiple regression, and results revealed that the dimension of perceived usefulness is the most influencing factor on the consumers' acceptance of IoT technology and consumers' behavioural intention to use. In the Malaysian context, this research provides additional information in narrowing the research gap with regard to understanding behavioural intention to use the IoT technology. Next, the framework will be used for future exploration to address the issue of how people who have never utilized an IoT innovation react.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the process of consumer satisfaction formation for e-commerce. The study also predicts that the satisfaction formation model of e-commerce will differ between the US and Korean consumers due to differences in cultural background. Design/methodology/approach The study integrates the expectation disconfirmation theory (EDT) and the technology acceptance model (TAM). The hypotheses are examined by analyzing a structural equation model for consumers in the USA and Korea. Findings The results show that the model demonstrates good fit for both groups. For consumers in both countries, when purchasing fashion products on a new e-commerce site, the performance of the site’s usefulness was found to be a crucial variable in their satisfaction and intention to use the site. While there was no significant difference in the multiple group measurement model invariance test, the findings are meaningful because the slight differences in the standard coefficients of the two groups are considered. Originality/value It is meaningful to apply EDT and the TAM to the daily deal site environment. The influence of related variables can be reconfirmed and new consumer behaviors can be better understood. The research provides fresh insights into consumer behavior that can benefit managers when they make decisions in the e-commerce field.

Notwithstanding the fact that extensive studies have highlighted the positive impact of flipped learning on developing learners’ skills, the literature has still been silent on its effect on Indonesian English learners’ communicative competence. To address this issue, this experimental study sheds some light on the significant impact of flipped learning method on developing English learners’ communicative competence. A total of 40 English learners of a university in Indonesia were grouped into flipped and non-flipped classrooms. Through the flipped learning, the course materials were delivered by means of Google classroom platform prior to the class, and the classroom activities were mostly allocated for communicative practices. To obtain the data, this study employed a Discourse Completion Task (DCT) and Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) questionnaire. Drawing on paired sample t-test and descriptive statistics, the results depicted that there was a significant difference between the learners’ pre-test and post-test scores of DCTs in the flipped group, and it significantly outperformed the non-flipped group. The results of TAM questionnaire further indicated that most of the learners appreciated the learning activities conducted in the flipped learning environment, and positively perceived Google classroom as an online platform for language learning. As the conclusion, it is a worth saying that flipped learning by means of Google classroom is an effective method to develop English learners’ pragmatic competence.

This study sought to explore factors that determine the public&rsquo;s acceptance of and adoption behavior toward e-government health applications launched in Saudi Arabia (SA) by the Ministry of Health (MOH) during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research relied on several theories: the technology acceptance model (TAM), information system success model (ISSM), mobile services acceptance model (MSAM), and unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT). The constructs of perceived ease of use (PEOU), perceived usefulness (PU), attitude (ATT), trust (TR), information quality (IQ), facilitating condition (FC), and social influence (SI) were utilized to investigate the user&rsquo;s intention toward using e-government health applications. The proposed model and its seven hypotheses were tested by conducting a survey across social media among citizens and residents in SA. A total of 785 valid responses were analyzed by SmartPLS and a structural equation modeling technique. After analysis, the results showed that PEOU, PU, ATT, TR, IQ, FC, and SI have positive effects on behavioral intentions. As for contributions, this paper is the first research paper to investigate the adoption of e-government health applications launched by MOH in SA during the COVID-19 pandemic and to provide a theoretical framework for pursuing future research work in a similar scope.

Content and language integrated learning (CLIL) is an approach that combines content and language objectives. Despite substantial expansion over the past two decades, its successful adoption raises several challenges for teachers. Teachers turn to information and communication technologies (ICT) to solve their problems. This study aims to investigate technology acceptance and use of English language teachers adopting the CLIL approach in Turkey, and to identify the difficulties they encounter while integrating technology into practice. The study is explanatory in research design and employs the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) developed by Davis (1989) as a framework. A 27-item Likert-type questionnaire was used to gather data from 61 teachers practicing in private and public schools. The results showed a statistically significant difference in technology integration intention and use behaviors of teachers. The qualitative data suggested that among the difficulties faced by CLIL teachers were facilitating environments, managerial assistance, and teacher technology awareness.
