Effective time management is an essential aspect of academic results. The use of the mobile phone and its influence on the proper management of the student's time forms the core of this work. The starting hypothesis presupposes a negative equivalence between excessive use of the mobile phone and academic results. For its verification, we elaborated a procrastination index (PI), later normalized (NPI) to take values equal to or greater than zero, calculated from the questionnaire used as one of the research instruments. Based on the 897 responses collected, sent from 21 countries, they have been classified into six distinct blocks in order to facilitate their analysis. On the other hand, to verify the statistical correlation between the variables studied, another questionnaire has been designed for students of the IES Los Albares, Cieza, between the 3rd year of secondary school and the 2nd year of high school, which has been crossed with the usage data of their phones during 352 weeks for 52 participants. After processing and subsequent analysis of the information obtained, it has been found that a high NPI score complemented by excessive use of the mobile phone (“techno-procrastination”) does not imply a decrease in academic performance. Therefore, the results contradict the hypothesis formulated.

The school counseling program is meant to assist students to deal with psycho-social and behavioral challenges, which normally affect their academic performance. In order to achieve this goal, the Kenyan government has previously committed resources towards establishing counseling programs in schools. The aim of this study was to establish how effective these counseling programs are in assisting secondary school learners in Kiambu County to achieve academically. Primary data was derived from 80 high school adolescents, 8 counselors, and 8 academic Dean of Students who were purposively sampled from 8 schools that were randomly selected. The study was qualitatively done, and self-determination theory was used to guide the study. Data were analyzed for the identification of counseling program characteristics and student improvement indices. These were presented in tables, charts, frequencies, and percentages based on the responses from the respondents. Further, a correlation between the two variables of the study was examined. Findings depicted that 65.7% of the students sampled said that counseling services offered at school satisfied their needs, 74.3% reported an improvement in their academic performance as a result of those counseling services and 87% felt more positive about school life after receiving counseling services. The study concluded that comprehensive counseling programs improved academic performance among high school students. The study intended to inform education planners, principals, and administrators on the role counseling would play in enhancing academic achievement among secondary school students.

The study investigated beliefs of 121 high school students in Grade 11 about people who are ill with malaria, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and alcoholism. The sample of Black pupils were chosen at random from two rural secondary schools in one region in the Northern Province of South Africa. Analysis indicated that HIV/AIDS was clearly distinguished from the other three illnesses by being seen as the least easily cured, having the most gradual onset, being the most contagious, showing the least look of illness, and the patients being likely those most blamed for their illness.

This paper describes a programme which attempted to upgrade prospects of students entering Memorial University of Newfoundland Regional College in Corner Brook in September of 1976. The elements of the programme are described and results are presented which compare the academic performance of marginal students who parti- cipated in the programme with that of those marginal students who did not. The students were followed up for over a further four academic semesters and their academic results were compared at the end of each semester. The results demonstrate that except for a brief drop at the end of the second semester, the results of the students who participated in the programme were clearly superior to that of those in the com- parison groups for each of the other semesters. The factors associated with these differ- ences and their implications for further academic upgrading programmes are discussed.

This study employed survey design in investigating the influence of mobile phone usage on academic performance among secondary school student in Jalingo, Taraba State, Nigeria. The sample for the study was 300 respondents selected from the total population of 6,482 respondents. Stratified sampling technique was employed to select the sample. The Mobile Phone Usage Questionnaire (MPUQ) adapted from Twum (2011), Mathematic Achievement Test (MAT) and English Language Achievement test (ELAT), were the instrument used for this study. Data collected were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, t-test and ANOVA to answer the research questions and hypotheses. The finding of this study, revealed that mobile phone usage significantly influence academic performance among male and female senior secondary school students (t = 6.113, P = 0.02), age difference was not a significant factor in mobile phone usage on academic performance among senior secondary school students (f = 6.431, P = 0.022), parent’s occupation was not a significant factor in mobile phone usage on academic performance among senior secondary school students (f = 9.005, p= 0.031) and that the frequency of mobile phone usage does not significantly influence academic performance among male and female senior secondary school students (t = 8.131, p = 0.02). It was recommended that, School psychologists, teachers, school administrators, parents and students should be sensitized on the influence of mobile phone usage on academic performance among secondary school students irrespective of gender and age differences.

A university environment's freedom and flexibility can derail students who have not mastered time-management skills. During high school, they had a rigidly structured schedule but unfortunately, students often struggle to balance their academic, personal and work commitments when they are in the university. In university, the students will be challenged with many competing demands on their time. Consequently, many students simply choose to give up and let the situation takes its course. Without intervention from alecturer or parents, the student is unlikely to succeed and will end up with low academic results. Eventhough there are many apps that have been developed to assist them in managing time, the students needto ‘see time’ or in other words make time visual. Therefore, the SCAP is a worthwhile guideline that isspecially invented in promoting their time effectively and efficiently. Keywords: self-management tool, enhancement, learning experience

WHAT I wish to say to you today is a general reflection on the subject of high school algebra. As a layman both in mathematics and in secondary school teaching, I can speak only from two lay points of view—that of the pupil, which meets you at one end of your activity, and that of the philosopher, which you encounter at the other. Consequently, I shall begin by talking about the futility and barrenness of algebra, and end, I hope, by reviewing with you its importance, interest, and charm. For it is a peculiarity of the subject that an uninitiate mind can usually see nothing in it but a dry, lifeless discipline, whereas the adept sees in it the apotheosis of human reason.

The article studies whether the use of entry exams or simple admission promote a differentiated academic composition at upper secondary school (USS) in Mexico. The analysis is performed with PISA 2012 data and explores changes in the mathematics performance distribution among lower secondary school students and USS students according to the admission process. I use slope difference analysis, chi-square goodness-of-fit test and quartile regression. The results refute the initial hypotheses since, on the one hand, I observe no increase in the representation of students with better academic results in the states that use entry exams, but rather an under-representation of students with the worse academic results. On the other hand, in the states that use simple admission process I observe the greatest differences in academic performance between lower secondary school students and USS students. Thus, the results show that in both admission processes, the representation of students with the worst performance (1st quintile) decrease significantly in USS and that simple admission does not seem to promote more equal educational transitions for students with different academic performance.

This study aims to explore the level of study skills of Grade 7 learners in English. This study utilized the researcher made survey questionnaire to solicit the answers from the learners regarding their study skills. The respondents of this study were the twenty one (21) purposively sampled Grade 7 learners of Tabgon High School, Goa, Camarines Sur, Philippines who were enrolled in the class of teacher-researchers for the school year 2018-2019.The statistical tool used was Frequency and Percentage Distribution to quantify the data from the respondents to generate baseline data to be the basis in generating instructional strategies. As reflected in the results, most of the learners have fair study skills in terms of time management, note taking, test preparation and reading textbook however, most of the learners possessed average study skills in terms of concentration in studying. Totally, results showed that majority of the students have fair or low level of study skills in English which means that they have deficiency in all study skills. Results recommended that teachers should devise mechanisms and interventions to motivate the learners to embrace these study skills. Also, learners should have strong grip on the interventions created by the teachers to improve their academic performance.
