The paper intends to examine a specific area of research concerning the pollution of large rivers – the Tiber above all but not exclusively – and the resulting contamination of water and air as well as the depletion of fish fauna and related food risks. The data on the damage to fluvial (but also lake and marine) habitats are not presented by the intellectuals of the Flavian-Trajan and Antonine ages (Pliny the Elder, Pliny the Younger, Galen) in an ‘environmentalist’ perspective stricto sensu, but each time presented in terms of moral condemnation, or of political propaganda aimed at seeking consensus or even in terms of risk to health and/or possible economic damage. In spite of this, from a legal point of view, appears undeniable a concern of the State to introduce measures aimed at limiting environmental damages as well as protecting and conserving natural resources, although certainly not systematic, but dictated by completely pragmatic needs and by occasional or emergency circumstances.

The article considers common classifications of measures to reduce environmentaleconomic damage from motor vehicles. Classification from the point of view of control impact is proposed, which allows to take into account relations between the state and citizens in the field of reduction of negative impact of motor vehicles on the environment. The analysis of the classification made it possible to identify areas of activity for improving the efficiency of management impacts, taking into account the incentives of citizens to comply with the requirements of the legislation and to create conditions for their exceeding. Increasing the efficiency of resource allocation in the Territory will allow the released funds to be allocated to the development of industry, agriculture, education and science.

The prevailing need for a more sustainable management of natural resources depends not only on the decisions made by governments and the will of the population, but also on the knowledge of the role of energy in our society and the relevance of preserving natural resources. In this sense, critical work is being done to instill key concepts—such as the circular economy and sustainable energy—in higher education institutions. In this way, it is expected that future professionals and managers will be aware of the importance of energy optimization, and will learn a series of computational methods that can support the decision-making process. In the context of higher education, this paper reviews the main trends and challenges related to the concepts of circular economy and sustainable energy. Besides, we analyze the role of simulation and serious games as a learning tool for the aforementioned concepts. Finally, the paper provides insights and discusses open research opportunities regarding the use of these computational tools to incorporate circular economy concepts in higher education degrees. Our findings show that, while efforts are being made to include these concepts in current programs, there is still much work to be done, especially from the point of view of university management. In addition, the analysis of the teaching methodologies analyzed shows that, although their implementation has been successful in favoring the active learning of students, their use (especially that of serious games) is not yet widespread.

Mycotoxins and mycotoxicoses represent an actual problem for various fields of agriculture – cattle breeding, pig breeding, poultry farming, fish farming. Mycotoxins (MT) cause harm to the health of animals and enormous economic damage, products of animal husbandry contaminated with mycotoxins can pose a threat to human health. This problem is important from the point of view of providing food and fodder security of the country.

Animals and livestock are part of the main phenomenon of the Quran which highlights its intimacy with nature and human life. Names, types, properties, stories or matters that are related to animals and livestock appear specifically, scientifically and strategically in the Quran. This phenomenon attracts researchers to observe this emerging trend from a statistical point of view including the type of animal, frequency and place of emergence, as well as the objective of its mention either in actual form or as a metaphor. Thus, this study aims to identify the name or type of animal that has been selected to be immortalised in this Holy Book, the frequency and condition of its appearance, and subsequently the objective of its mention in the verse or surah. This is very important as basic data which will pave the way to a more advanced study in highlighting the majesty and miracles of the Quran in various dimensions that are related to natural resources. Correspondingly, this is a library study that is based on research on the text, especially the books of authentic interpretation, contemporary tafsir studies, the Ulum Quran, scientific journals, and other related texts. Among the important findings of the study is that animals and livestock are not a side element that comes to complete the beauty of the Quranic word or metaphor, or the physical design framework of its arrangement alone, for the presence of each of these animals or livestock is to carry the mission and certain objectives that cannot be played by other components in it. This study also paves the way for various further studies that can be explored by interested researchers, as well as in tadabbur activities that successfully attract the interest of today's society to get closer to the Quran.

The article presents the letters of Sidonius Apollinaris - Gallo-Roman aristocrat, poet and bishop. The study aims at analysing the letters of Sidonius from the point of view of their purpose, the models used, the argumentation, and the list of recipients to whom the letters are addressed. On the one hand, it shows that Sidonius remained faithful to his masters in epistolography (Cicero, Pliny the Younger, Symmachus), while on the other hand, was able to change the form of letters according to the situation. The paper also allows us to discern the changes that took place in the works of Sidonius after his ordination.

The use of microorganisms as part of environmental management action, aimed at dealing with environmental issues, results in an interesting and more environmentally friendly alternative to the conventional physicochemical decontamination methods. In this sense, a profile of the use of microorganisms in environmental management would prove helpful for people and organizations to make their processes more sustainable. However, the publications that describe the use of microorganisms within environmental management tend to show their author’s point of view, rather than the results of a systematic study in this field of knowledge. Consequently, descriptions of microorganisms, environmental issues and economic sectors involved do not necessarily reflect how developed research in microbiology and environmental management is. Therefore, the aim of this study was to describe the use given to microorganisms within environmental management, providing a profile related to the environmental issues tackled, natural resources affected, and economic sectors involved. A systematic review of scientific literature published between 2012 and 2017 led us to the description of three types of use given to microorganisms, six types of natural resources protected through such uses, ten types of environmental issues, and eight economic sectors in which the uses mentioned are applicable.

This chapter examines the consequences of climate change from the point of view of disasters and their consequences for specific interest and population groups. A key focus is the social intersections that become apparent in such events. For example, the climatic and weather events that form the backdrop to present conflicts in places such as Syria are discussed, as are the gendered vulnerabilities evident in disaster situations such as cyclones and tsunami. Social conflicts stemming from climate change are then elaborated as a more general and increasingly likely scenario. In response to real and perceived threats and risk linked to climate change, issues of security are already generating angst among policy-makers and military planners. Indeed, the securitisation of natural resources, to the detriment of others, is emerging as an important climate-related issue, especially in regard to food, water, land, and air quality.

In the Amazon fishing is one of the main economic activities and higher value to traditional riverine communities of the region. Considering this importance is to suppose that the riverine populations have knowledge about fish fauna explores for them, because their forming culture that maintain a strait relationship with natural resources. This study aim to elevate the traditional knowledge of the fishermen from the riverine communities in the Big Lake Complex about the fish alimentary diet caught for commercialization and consumption. This study was realized in the Manacapuru Big Lake Complex through interview jointed with 62 fishermen. The results presents a detailed knowledge about the tambaqui, tucunaré, pacu, acará-açú, curimatã, aruanã, matrinxã, piranha and pirapitinga fish feeding compatible with the laboratory analyzes and with the specifics literature. Finally the traditional ecological knowledge from the fishermen about the fish ecology in the Big Lake must be used as a subsidy study of lakes management, establishing in this way, an information resource for scientific works at the same time to minimize the cost with a long research.

The idea prevailing in mainstream environmental law literature is that ex ante safety regulation is preferable to tort law remedies to deal with environmental issues. The main reason usually invoked to prefer ex ante regulation is that generally, tort law takes its part only after the harm has already been done; and that is considered not compatible with the objective of avoiding environmental harm. On the contrary, from the law and economics point of view, I will argue that tort law systems have some important properties that make it compatible with the goal of reducing environmental risks, and that it can be superior to ex ante regulation in avoiding environmental harm. Consequently, the purpose of this paper is drawing up a general framework to describe the relative advantages of tort law and their related conditions to deal with environmental harm.

The use of intelligent double-skin facades, sometimes referred to as "double facades", is attracting increasing amounts of interests from the architects throughout the world, due to the characteristics such as ecology, durability, use of natural resources, etc. This paper is written from the architectural history point of view, and gives a brief description about the development of the intelligent double-skin façade systems, from the old storm windows to modern double-skin systems, and suggests further research possibilities in this field.
