The striped dwarf catfish Mystus cavasius being a least concern small indigenous fish it is necessary to protect the species from extinction in the near future. An experiment on production and economic feasibility of Mystus cavasius in cage was conducted for a period of six months from March to August 2020 in beel hilla at Naogaon district of Bangladesh. The study was carried out in nine cages (rectangular 8x5x2 feet size) under three treatments namely T1, T2 and T3 performed with the stocking densities of 46 fry m-2, 92 fry m-2 and 137 fry m-2 and designed each with three replications. The fish was fed with commercial pellet feed (containing 30% crude protein) twice daily at the rate of 5-7% of fish body weight. The total production was found to be significantly (p<0.05) highest in T3 among the three treatments. The net profit was better in T3 than T1 and T2 in terms of better production and money. So, stocking density of Mystus cavasius at the rate of 137 fry m-2 in cage could be an economically feasible aquaculture technique for fish farmers.

The experiment was operated in 9 consecutive weeks in nine earthen nursery ponds having the same area (0.09 acre) and depth (0.8 m). Seven days old fries of Silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) were stocked at 4000, 5000 and 6000 fries/decimal in three treatments with three replications as T-1, T-2 and T-3, respectively to observe the growth and survival. At stocking, hatchlings were the same batch-rearing with an average length and weight of 0.44 ± 0.05 cm and 0.14 ± 0.05 mg, respectively. Wet mustered oil cake and commercial nursery feed containing 30% crude protein were given by two weeks interval, initially according to the bodyweight; the feeding rate was 14% in the first two weeks, gradually reduced to 12, 10 and 8%, respectively in the following week intervals. Water quality parameters and plankton sufficiency were observed every 15 days interval and was found within the acceptable range. Growth performance (6.458 g), survival rate of fingerlings (85.76%) and total production (22151g/decimal) were found highest in T-1 followed by T-2 and T-3. The study concluded that expect better production of fry up to fingerlings, proper stocking density should be maintained in pond fish culture in Jashore region of Bangladesh.

The experiment was conducted to evaluate the production performance of freshwater mud eel (Monopterus cuchia) with supplementary feed for a period of 5 months in field level. Two ponds were selected for this experiment in Maulovibazar district. Baby cuchia having weight of 50-70 g were stocked in ponds at a stocking density of 10/m2 in filter net. Liming (CaO) was done in all the ponds at rate of 250 kg/ha. A safety shelter for cuchia was developed by installing bamboo root, plastic and bamboo-made hollow pipe, aquatic vegetation and necessary objects in the pond. Different physico-chemical parameters were found to be within the acceptable ranges for M. cuchia culture in all ponds. Supplementary feed composed of fish paste (50%), fish meal (40%), rice bran (5%) and wheat flour (5%) was applied at the rate of 2-3% of body weight. After 5 months of rearing, total production obtained were 28.3±1.09 and 31.9±2.56 kg from pond-1 and pond-2, respectively. The highest production was obtained from pond-2 and lowest production was obtained in pond-1. The net profit gained from pond-1 and pond-2 were tk 2559 and 3211 per decimal, respectively.

An experiment was carried out to study the density dependent growth of Thai sharpunti (Barbonymusgonionotus) for two months period. Three stocking densities such as 50/decimal, 100/decimal and 150/decimal representing treatment one (T1), treatment two (T2) and treatment three (T3), respectively were tested in three replications. A commercial diet (25% crude protein) was supplied twice daily throughout the study period up to satiation level. The total production of sharpunti was found 14.67 ± 2.05, 27.06 ± 3.09 and 36.87 ± 2.16 kg/decimal in T1, T2 and T3, respectively and they were significantly different (p<0.05) from each other. A higher net benefit of BDT 1079.50 was obtained from T2 where the stocking density was 100/decimal. The present study indicated that the growth and production of Thai sharpunti was density dependent in monoculture systems.Progressive Agriculture 28 (3): 249-252, 2017

An experiment was conducted for a period of 97 days at the Fisheries Field Laboratory Complex, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh to determine the potential of the cage-cum-pond culture of walking catfish, as well as to assess the economic and environmental benefits of this system. The experiment had two treatments in triplicate. One treatment comprised walking catfish in cage and tilapia in open pond, and the other treatment comprised both walking catfish and tilapia stocked together in open ponds. Ponds of both treatments were stocked with walking catfish and tilapia at a stocking density of 10,000 and 20,000 ha-1, respectively. Fishes in both treatments were fed with commercial pelleted feed (26% crude protein) twice daily at the rate of 10% body weight of walking catfish. All ponds were fertilized with urea and TSP at a rate of 50 kgha-1 bi-weekly. Survival of catfish was very low in both treatments ranging from 8.33 to 21.33%. Specific growth rate of catfish was significantly higher (P<0.021) in treatment-2 than in treatment-1 with a value of 2.42 and 1.69 g fish-1d-1, respectively. The net yield for catfish of treatment-1 and 2 were 49.67 and 43.45 kgha-1, respectively and there was no significant difference between the treatments. The survival rate of tilapia was 65.17 and 71.17% with daily weight gain of 2.31 and 2.22g fish-1 in treatment-1 and 2, respectively. Net yield were 817.00 and 790.63 kg ha-1, respectively and there were no significant difference in net yield of tilapia between treatments. Net profit obtained from integrated-cage-cum pond culture (Tk. 24,518 ha-197d-1) was higher than that of open pond (Tk 22,685 ha-197d-1).Res. Agric. Livest. Fish.4(3): 221-227, December 2017

AbstractThis study investigates the techno-economic feasibility of installing a 3-kilowatt-peak (kWp) photovoltaic (PV) system in Kathmandu, Nepal. The study also analyses the importance of scaling up the share of solar energy to contribute to the country's overall energy generation mix. The technical viability of the designed PV system is assessed using PVsyst and Meteonorm simulation software. The performance indicators adopted in our study are the electric energy output, performance ratio, and the economic returns including the levelised cost and the net present value of energy production. The key parameters used in simulations are site-specific meteorological data, solar irradiance, PV capacity factor, and the price of electricity. The achieved PV system efficiency and the performance ratio are 17% and 84%, respectively. The demand–supply gap has been estimated assuming the load profile of a typical household in Kathmandu under the enhanced use of electric appliances. Our results show that the 3-kWp PV system can generate 100% of electricity consumed by a typical residential household in Kathmandu. The calculated levelised cost of energy for the PV system considered is 0.06 $/kWh, and the corresponding rate of investment is 87%. The payback period is estimated to be 8.6 years. The installation of the designed solar PV system could save 10.33 tons of CO2 emission over its lifetime. Overall, the PV systems with 3 kWp capacity appear to be a viable solution to secure a sufficient amount of electricity for most households in Kathmandu city.

The MRA platform is one of the offshore platforms located in the north of the Java Sea. The MRA platform has 4 production wells, namely MRA-2ST, MRA-4ST, MRA-5, and MRA-6 wells. The 4 production wells are produced using an artificial lift in the form of a gas lift. The limited gas lift at the MRA Platform at 3.1 MMSCFD makes the production of wells at the MRA Platform not optimal because the wells in the MRA Platform are experiencing insufficient gas lift. Optimization of gas lift injection is obtained by redistribution of gas lift injection for each. The results of the analysis in this study indicate that the optimum gas lift injection for the MRA-2ST well is 0.5552 MMSCFD, the MRA-6 well is 1.0445 MMSCFD, the MRA-5 well is 0.7657 MMSCFD, finally the MRA-4ST well with gas injection. lift is 0.7346 MMSCFD. The manual gas lift in the MRA-4ST is also replaced based on an economic feasibility analysis to ensure that the gas lift injection for each well can be kept constant. The redistribution of gas lift carried out by the author has increased the total production rate of the MRA Platform by 11,160 BO/year or approximately USD 781,200/year. Keywords: Gas lift; Insufficient; Optimization

This study was aim to determine the different pellet feed source on the growth and survival rate of Nile tilapia. The purpose of this research was to provide information of the best feed for the growth and survival rate of Nile tilapia.Completely Randomized Design, with 3 treatments ( treatment A: community-made pellet, treatment B: commercial pellet PF500; treatment C: commercial pellet 885) and 3 replicate was used for the research. Nile tilapia with 3-4 cm length placed in nine aquariums with stocking density 6 fishes/L. Feeding treatment given twice a day at level 3 %/ body weight.  The parameters observed include growth rates, survival, and feed conversion. Supporting data was observed for water quality. Observation was carried out for 30 days.The results showed that the average weight, in treatment A was 101,66 g, treatment B was 118.33 g, and treatment C was 128.33 g. The average yield of relative growth in treatment A was 111.44%, treatment B was 134.23%, and treatment C was 135.76%. Treatment C shows the highest value, then treatment B and treatment A. The average yield of feed conversion, treatment A was 1.11; treatment B 3.21; and treatment C was 3.37. Survival rate of all treatments was 100%.

Two biological trials were conducted to determine the energy and lysine requirements of “TANUVAS Namakkal gold Japanese quail” for production performance. The economic impact of different levels energy and lysine during the chick (0-2 weeks) and grower (3-5 weeks) phases was assessed using seven hundred and twenty straight-run, day-old chicks randomly grouped in nine treatments with four replicates of twenty chicks each. Three levels of energy (2800, 2900 and 3000 kcal/kg) and three levels of lysine (1.2, 1.3 and 1.4%) were tested for chick and grower phase of the first experiment. The net profit per bird (Rs. 8.49) was high in group T1 (low energy and low lysine) and the net profit per kg live weight (Rs. 48.57) was high in T2 (2900 kcal/kg and 1.2%). For the second experiment an energy level of 2700, 2800 and 2900 kcal/kg was fixed for chick and grower mash, lysine level of 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4% was fixed for chick phase and 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3% for grower phase and the crude protein level was fixed as 20.3 and 19.4 per cent for chick and grower mash respectively for the second trial. The net profit per bird (Rs. 7.18) was high in group T6 and the net profit per kg live weight (Rs. 37.62) was high in T6 (2900 kcal/kg and 1.3% lysine during chick phase and 1.2% lysine during the grower phase).
