Penelitian ini meneliti dampak pelatihan pada penciptaan bisnis online untuk pemula dengan peserta yang berasal dari ibu rumah tangga yang terpajan HIV. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian kualitatif. Informan dalam penelitian ini adalah 5 ibu rumah tangga. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan teknik wawancara terstruktur langsung dengan metode pre-test dan post-test sesudahnya. Semua informan tidak pernah melakukan bisnis menggunakan media online atau mengetahui cara berbisnis menggunakan media online. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan (1) peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan 50% menggunakan media situs web Facebook. (2) Ada peningkatan dan keterampilan 83% menggunakan media sosial WhatsApp. (3) Aspek komparatif dari pemasaran dan penjualan produk menggunakan media sosial WhatsApp memiliki hasil yang lebih tinggi daripada media situs web Facebook. Ini karena waktu yang terbatas untuk menguasai semua fitur di media online.This research examines the impact of training on online business creation for beginners with the participants coming from HIV-exposed housewives. The method used in this research is the qualitative research method. Informants in this research are 5 housewives. The data was collected using direct structured interviews technique with pre-test and post-test methods afterwards. All informants have never done business using online media nor knowing how to do business using online media. The results showed (1) an increase in knowledge and skills of 50% using the Facebook website media. (2) There was an increase and skills of 83% using WhatsApp social media. (3) Comparative aspects of marketing and product sales using WhatsApp social media have higher results than the Facebook website media. This is due to limited time to master all the features in online media.

While most research on the e-diaspora focuses on connections within heterosexual families and communities, this paper explores the transnational connections and digital media uses of LGBTQ migrants. Based on semi-structured interviews with 23 LGBTQs living in Belgium, two groups are distinguished: voluntary migrants, who chose to move, and forced migrants, who (felt they) had to leave their country because of their sexual orientation. Comparing their familial and ethno-cultural connections, it becomes clear that both groups – for varying reasons and to varying degrees – feel disconnected from their countries of origin, families, and ethno-cultural communities in Belgium. For all participants, digital media are a key tool to maintain some connections, but particularly for the forced migrants ‘context collapse' on social media leads to a sense of insecurity. Overall, this research illustrates the importance of intersecting variables in research on the e-diaspora, as well as the impact of ‘offline' legal and material conditions on online media uses.

Travellers have high standards and regard restaurants as important travel attributes. In the tourism and hospitality industry, the use of developed tools (e.g., smartphones and location-based tablets) has been popularised as a way for travellers to easily search for information and to book venues. Qualitative research using semi-structured interviews based on the face-to-face approach was adopted for this study to examine how consumers’ restaurant selection processes are performed with the utilisation of social media on smartphones. Then, thematic analysis was adopted. The findings of this research show that the adoption of social media on smartphones is positively related with consumers’ gratification. More specifically, when consumers regard that process, content and social gratification are satisfied, their intention to adopt social media is fulfilled. It is suggested by this study that consumers’ restaurant decision-making process needs to be understood, as each stage of the decision-making process is not independent; all the stages of the restaurant selection process are organically connected and influence one another.

Social media are one of the most valuable management tools used by sport managers in the fulfilment of their daily tasks. However, the studies that share and analyse the impact of educational experiences that incorporate social media into sport management education for professional purposes are scarce to date. Thus, this study presents an educational innovation piloted in a sport management course where LinkedIn—the social media most associated with the professional sphere—is introduced through an experiential learning methodology, as a driver of students’ career development and as a tool to keep up to date and interact with the sport industry. To assess the learning outcomes, a new scale was developed and tested. A total of 90 Spanish undergraduate sport management students (M = 22.71; SD = 3.84) participated in the study, partaking in a pre-test and a post-test. Regarding the results linked to the testing of the scale, the statistical analysis reflects the scale’s two-dimensional nature, explaining 68.78% of the variance, presenting good psychometric properties (α = 0.95). On the other hand, significant increases in all the scale items between the two measures were obtained, with large effects size in the two dimensions (Cohen’s d ≥ 0.80). Therefore, it is concluded that LinkedIn can help to develop the professional profile of sport management students, Linked(In)g what is taught in the classroom with what the sport industry demands.

In light of contemporary pedagogical methods, the flipped classroom has been recognised as an effective pedagogy in English as a Foreign Language (EFL). This study employed a quasi-experimental one-group research design to investigate the impact of flipped learning on Omani EFL learners’ grammar and to examine students’ perceptions on the flipped classroom. An intact group of students (n=28) enrolled at the foundation programme in Arab Open University-Oman was randomly selected. Seven videos on English grammar were developed and shared with the students prior to the class. A varaiety of activities were conducted in the class following task-based language teaching. Students met for 8 lessons over the period of 8 weeks. Pre-test, post-test and semi-structured interviews were used in the study. The findings indicated that flipped learning had a positive impact on students’ understanding and usage of English grammar. Students’ perceptions on the flipped approach were positive. The study also provided pedagogical insights for the flipped classroom and recommendations for future research.

Purpose Adopting a social capital theoretical (SCT) lens, this study aims to propose a conceptual framework of effective internal communication (IC) for the hospitality industry. The study explores how to enhance current practices and the suitability of social media as an augmentation to traditional IC channels. Design/methodology/approach A qualitative research methodology, consisting of 20 semi-structured interviews with hospitality employees, was adopted. Following a “reduction” and “interpretation” process, 16 themes related to effective IC were identified which informed a conceptual framework. Findings Characteristics of effective IC were identified in addition to IC benefits at both employee and organizational levels. Considering the limitations of current practices, the applicability of social media was explored. Requirements of effective IC suggest that new channels (e.g. social media) should be adopted to build social capital. Research limitations/implications The study informs SCT from a meso-level (process) perspective. The articulation of an IC framework informs how social capital can be built through effective IC, providing a foundation for further empirical examination as to the impact of various channels on the IC process. Adoption of a case study design suggests that results and implications can only be generalized to similar environments. Practical implications The study details the characteristics of effective IC and its subsequent benefits, highlighting how social media can augment current IC practices in a hospitality organization. Originality/value Being a 24/7 labor-intensive operation makes employee communication to ensure service excellence challenging in the hospitality industry. Through the application of SCT and the exploration of social media in a workplace setting to enhance IC, significant theoretical and practical insights are realized.

This chapter focuses on a method, social network analysis (SNA) that can be used to assess the quantity and quality of connection, communication and collaboration mediated by social tools in an organization. An organization, in the Canadian public sector, is used as a real-life case study to illustrate how SNA can be used in a pre-test/post-test evaluation design to conduct a comparative assessment of methods that can be used before, during and after the implementation of organizational change in work processes. The same evaluation method can be used to assess the impact of introducing new social media such as wikis, expertise locator systems, blogs, Twitter and so on. In other words, while traditional pre-test/post-test designs can be easily applied to social media, the social media tools themselves can be added to the assessment toolkit. Social network analysis in particular is a good candidate to analyze the connections between people and content as well as people with other people.

This article reports on a study carried out in a foreign language school at a Colombian public university. Its main purpose was to analyze the extent to which the use of authentic materials and tasks contributes to the enhancement of the communicative competence on an A2 level English course. A mixed study composed of a quasi-experimental and a descriptive-qualitative research design was implemented by means of a pre-test, a post-test, observations, semi-structured interviews, surveys, and diaries. The findings showed that the use of authentic materials and tasks, within the framework of a pedagogical project, had an impact on students’ communicative competence progress and on the teaching practices of the experimental group teacher.

On a high level, this research project explores the impact of the Virtual Fitting Room (“VFR”) technology on e-commerce. More specifically, this project is concerned with exploring the impact of the VFR technology in relation to online fashion sales. The central question this project has considered is: Does a virtual fitting room lead to an increase in 1) social media engagement and 2) product sales? VFR technology provides end users with an understanding of how a piece of clothing fits. This project oversaw the implementation of a series of interventions to measure the value of VFR. To test the premise of this research, six Egyptian fashion designers with an ineffective online presence were assigned to an e-commerce platform with VFR technology. To measure the impact of VFR, the researcher targeted three key audiences: 1) designers who only use social media, 2) designers who use social media and have a website, and 3) designers who use social media and have an e-commerce store with VFR. A benchmark for each of social media engagement, sales, and returns were provided by each designer. Results demonstrated that the presence of VFR significantly increased curiosity, customer loyalty, and engagement, while reducing uncertainty about sizing. However, the data collected was not sufficient to prove a direct correlation between the conversion rate and sales

<p>Online media has penetrated in all areas including the library so the impact on the rapid flow of information. Library into the gates of knowledge so librarian most responsible for the release of information entered into the goal. Information posts from library can be made through any type of social media application. Sosial media was created to enable people to communicate and connect with others. Social media has changes the way librarian in doing their jobs related to communicate with the users, how to communicate both individually and at the library level. Social media have forever changed the way interact, share, and ultimately conduct our relationships. Various information appeared like seawater unstoppable spread so users required to be wise in choosing and using them. A wave of false news more so by the presence of social media. Social media become a challenge for librarians to improve their competence with media literacy of new technology. Librarian library through a very important role as a gateway healthy information.</p><p>Media online sudah merambah di semua bidang termasuk perpustakaan sehingga berdampak pada pesatnya arus informasi. Perpustakaan menjadi gerbang pengetahuan sehingga pustakawanlah yang paling bertanggung jawab menjadi gawang masuk keluarnya informasi. Informasi dari perpustakaan dapat dilakukan melalui semua jenis aplikasi media sosial. Media sosial memungkinkan kita berkomunikasi dan terhubung dengan yang lain. Media sosial<strong> </strong>dapat mengubah pekerjaan pustakawan yang berhubungan dengan komunikasi dengan pemustaka, baik perseorangan maupun pada level perpustakaan.<strong> </strong>Media sosial merubah cara untuk berinteraksi, berbagi, dan menjalin hubungan. Beragam informasi muncul bagaikan air laut yang tak terbendung penyebarannya sehingga pemustaka dituntut harus bijak dalam memilih dan menggunakannya. Gelombang berita bohong semakin terasa dengan hadirnya media sosial. Media sosial menjadi tantangan bagi para pustakawan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi literasi media dengan teknologi baru. Perpustakaan melalui pustakawannya sangat berperan sebagai gerbang informasi sehat.</p>

Orientation: With many organisations vying for the same talent, it is important to ensure that the correct methods are utilised in identifying and attracting the best talent to an organisation.Research purpose: This research investigates the impact of social media on the recruitment process in South Africa.Motivation for the study: As the competition for qualified talent increases, organisations need to understand where to focus their resources to attract the best talent possible. The use of social media is growing daily and its use in the recruitment process seems to have grown exponentially.Research design, approach and method: The sample comprised 12 recruiters, spanning a wide range of industries in South Africa. Semi-structured interviews were conducted and a thematic analysis was utilised to identify themes and subthemes.Main findings: Despite still utilising some traditional methods of recruiting, South African recruiters follow their international counterparts, with LinkedIn being central to their respective recruitment processes. The use of Twitter and Facebook for recruitment was found to be substantially lower in South Africa than elsewhere. Without following a focused approach, the volume of work that emanates from using social media may overwhelm a recruiter.Practical and managerial implications: Recruiters cannot execute effective recruitment without applying social media tools such as LinkedIn. However, training in the optimal use of social media is essential.Contribution: This study indicates that LinkedIn has a major impact on recruitment in South Africa, but that social media is not a panacea for recruitment issues.
