Objective. To study the clinical efficacy of integrated traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and Western medicine (WM) in treating endometrial cancer and the influence on ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), tumor markers, human epididymis protein 4 (HE4) and carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125). Method. A total of 152 cases of patients with endometrial carcinoma were randomly divided into two groups: the TCM + WM group and the WM group. The WM group was treated with megestrol acetate tablets, and the TCM + WM group was treated with Radix Astragali injection on the basis of the control group. The levels of inflammatory factors, HE4 and CA125 in serum, were detected using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) or radioimmunoassay. The characteristics of ultrasound images and MRI images were observed and recorded. Toxicity, side effects, and the 3-year cumulative survival rate after treatment were assessed. Results. After treatment, the levels of interleukin-4 (IL-4), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) in both groups decreased, and the decrease in the TCM + WM group was more obvious than that in the WM group. There were statistically significant differences between the two groups in lesion shape, boundary, blood flow signal, lesion diameter, resistance index (RI), echo, intima thickness, and muscle layer infiltration from transvaginal ultrasound images after treatment. The diameter, echo, boundary, shape, composition, and enhancement degree of lesions between the two groups have a significant difference. Moreover, the levels of serum HE4 and CA125 in both groups decreased after treatment, and the decrease in the TCM + WM group was more obvious than that in the WM group. There were statistically significant differences between the two groups in the occurrence of myelosuppression, abnormal liver function, decreased platelet number, gastrointestinal reactions, leukopenia, and cardiotoxicity. After three years of follow-up, the cumulative survival rate of the TCM + WM group was 76.32%, and the cumulative survival rate of the WM group was 57.89%. Conclusion. Radix Astragali injection combined with megestrol acetate tablets has obvious therapeutic effects against endometrial cancer. Through vaginal ultrasonography and MRI, it can significantly improve the size, shape, and blood flow signals of patients’ lesions, reduce the level of serum inflammatory factors and tumor markers HE4 and CA125, reduce the incidence of toxic and side reactions, improve the patient’s immunity, improve the patient’s condition significantly, and prolong the survival time of patients.

Stroke, a disease with a sudden onset and high morbidity and mortality rates, is difficult to treat in the clinic. Traditional Chinese medicine has become increasingly widely used in clinical practice. Modern pharmacological studies have found that Radix Astragali has a variety of medicinal properties, i.e., immunoregulatory, antioxidative, anti-cancer, anti-diabetes, myocardial protective, hepatoprotective, and antiviral functions. This article reviews the protective effect and mechanism of astragaloside IV, which is extracted from Radix Astragali, on stroke, discusses the cerebroprotective effect of astragaloside IV against ischemia-reperfusion-related complications, offers insight into research prospects, and expands the idea of integrating traditional Chinese and Western medicine treatment strategies and drugs to provide a theoretical reference for the clinical treatment of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury and the improvement of stroke prognosis.

Abstract Background: With the improvement of people's living standards, the aging population in China has gradually increased, and the treatment of osteoporosis (OP) has become a major problem afflicting the medical field. Radix Astragali(RA) and Prepared Radix Rehmannia(PRR) are commonly used Chinese herbal medicines. The combination of them can achieve a synergistic effect in the treatment of osteoporosis. However, its mechanism of action remains uncertain. Objective: This study aims to investigate the possible molecular mechanism of RA combined with PRR in the treatment of OP using an integrated strategy of network pharmacology and experimental validation. Methods: The active ingredients of RA combined with PRR were searched and screened by TCMSP database, and the targets of active ingredients were predicted and supplemented by TCMSP and SwissTargetPrediction databases. The target genes related to OP diseases were searched in GeneCards and OMIM comprehensive databases. The intersection targets of drugs and diseases were imported into String database to obtain the interaction information of intersection target genes. Cytoscape3.7.1 software was used to construct the protein interaction network diagram and "drug component-target-disease" network diagram. Then DAVID database was used for GO gene enrichment analysis and KEGG metabolic pathway analysis. Finally, in vivo experiments were also performed to validate the findings of network pharmacology. Results: A total of 98 active components of RA combined with PRR were finally retrieved and integrated into the TCMSP database, 1700 target genes related to OP were obtained through the disease database, 149 gene targets were obtained by taking the intersection of disease genes, and drug targets, 122 core targets and 514 interaction relationships were obtained after protein interaction network and topology analysis. GO analysis and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis showed that RA combined with PRR intervention for OP mainly through multiple pathways such as PI3K-Akt, MAPK, TNF, Rap1, and Toll-like receptors. In addition, in vivo experiments confirmed that RA combined with PRR could significantly increase bone mineral density, reduce bone spacing, improve bone tissue structure, and improve osteoporosis in ovariectomized rats. Conclusion: In this study, the network pharmacological approach was used to reveal the potential targets and key signal pathways of RA combined with PRR in treating osteoporosis. This study was also verified by animal experiments, which provided a reliable basis for clinical application.

As a chronic non-infectious disease, severely affecting human quality and health of life, diabetes mellitus (DM) and its complications have gradually developed into a major global public health problem. Mulberry Leaf and Radix Astragali have been used as a traditional medicinal formulation in diabetic patients for a long time, whose combination is usually found in traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions. However, due to the unclear synergistic mechanism of them for DM, the changes of differential genes and proteins in the liver tissue of streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice were analyzed, and then the potential synergistic mechanism of them in anti-diabetes was investigated in our research. Compared with the diabetic model group, there were 699 differentially expressed genes and 169 differentially expressed proteins in the Mulberry Leaf and Radix Astragali treated group, and there were 35 common specific genes both in the transcriptome and the proteome. These common genes participated mainly in the pathways, such as retinol metabolism, steroid hormone biosynthesis, and arachidonic acid metabolism. Quantitative real-time PCR() and Western blot results speculated that the synergistic effect on anti-diabetes was mainly through regulating the expression of Tap1, Ncoa4, and Alas2, by down-regulating Fabp2 and Hmox1 and up-regulating Hmgcr, Cyp7a1. All these genes would affect bile acid secretion, alleviate the occurrence of iron death, promote the metabolism and synthesis of glycolipid substances, and ultimately maintain the body’s glucose homeostasis.

Radix Astragali seu Hedysari is warm in nature and slightly sweet in taste. It belongs to the lung, spleen, and kidney meridians. It passes through a waterway, dredges the triple energizer, and has a significant effect on edema due to renal diseases. Ancient doctors believed that Radix Astragali seu Hedysari is excellent in tonifying the middle, supplementing Qi, and dredging through the triple energizer. In modern times, many doctors have found that whether it is used as a single drug or in combination with other drugs, it is widely used in clinical practice and has a good effect in inducing diuresis.

Radix Astragali and Semen Lepidii (HQ-TLZ) is a commonly used herbal medicine combination for treatment of heart failure, which has a good clinical effect. However, its active components and mechanism of action are not clear, which limits its clinical application and development. In this study, we explored the mechanism of action of HQ-TLZ in the treatment of heart failure based on network pharmacology. We obtained 11 active ingredients and 109 targets from the TCMSP database and SwissTargetPrediction database. Next, we constructed the action network and carried out enrichment analysis. The results showed that HQ-TLZ treatment of heart failure is primarily achieved by regulating the insulin resistance, erbB signaling pathway, PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, and VEGF signaling pathway. After inverse targeting, molecular docking, and literature search, we determined that the equivalent molecular groups of HQ-TLZ in the treatment of heart failure were quercetin and kaempferol. Based on network pharmacology, we reveal the mechanism of action of HQ-TLZ in the treatment of heart failure to a certain extent. At the same time, we determined the composition of the equivalent molecular group. This provides a bridge for the consistency evaluation of natural herbs and molecular compounds, which is beneficial to the development of novel drugs and further research.
