Abstract Galaxias maculatus aquaculture objectives is to produce millions of eggs. Wild females are small (2 g), have quick sexual maturity and low mean fecundity (500 eggs/female), requiring larger fishes with higher fecundity. This study aim is to evaluate experimentally the effect of the levels of protein, lipid and dietary energy on weight increases in adults. Five independent experiments were performed at different sequential time periods at the UCT hatchery, Chile. Specimens were obtained from a) Crystalline sea return specimen catches in the Tolten estuary (4 -6 cm, 0.3-0.4 g.). b) Hatchery cultured fish. Fish were fed by hand ad libitum. In experiments 1 to 4, pelleted diets were prepared with 3 to 5 levels of protein (treatments 27 up to 57%), crumble size, three 100 L fibre ponds replicates. In experiment 5 the effect of two lipid levels (8 and 21%) was evaluated with commercial extruded Salmon Nutra Starter isoproteic crumble 1 diet at 63%, replicated in 4 ponds. The results show: A tendency to increased weight in all sizes with an increased protein level in the pelleted diet.A maximal adult growth is obtained with a diet containing a minimum of 37% crude protein, with 40% the optimal value. A higher % protein in the diet or growth in weight lower feed conversion ratio. The feed conversion ratio in the extruded diet reaches up to 0.5 and in the pelleted vary from 0.7 to 1.5. Fish 0.6 g fed with 63% protein, extruded commercial diet with two different lipid levels (8 and 21%, 20.40 and 23.84 MJ kg-1, PE/TE 0.62 and 0.71) increased weight the first month 67 and 105% each. It has been established that high-energy diets with optimal levels of protein and lipid are a good short-term solution to obtain G. maculatus of higher weight.

Abstract Background To investigate the characteristics and clinical significance of serum lipids in patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs). Methods The clinical and pathological data of 694 GIST patients in Liyuan hospital and Union hospital from 2012 to 2016 were retrospectively analyzed. Blood lipid levels in patients with varying degrees of risk were compared. Results The findings showed that LDL-C, HDL-C, and CHOL increased significantly in women, and CD34 positive. In patients with tumors size less than 5 cm in diameter, TG, HDL-C, and CHOL were significantly higher. TG levels were significantly higher in DOG-1 (a marker and has a high specificity and sensitivity in the diagnosis of GIST) positive patients than in DOG-1 negative patients (P < 0.05). S-100 positive patients had lower HDL-C levels than S-100 negative patients (P < 0.05). Lipids indexes were found to be correlated with GIST risk stratification and tumor site (P < 0.05). TG/HDL-C was were significantly different among patients with GIST in different locations (P < 0.05). Conclusion The clinical and pathological characteristics of the patients with GIST are closely related to the level of blood lipids. To a certain extent, information about level of blood lipids can be helpful for distinguishing benign and malignant GIST.

Abstract BackgroundThere is no consensus reference range for serum lipid levels during pregnancy. The benefit of levothyroxine (L-T4) on serum lipid levels are unclear among pregnant women with subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH).ObjectiveTo determine the recommended reference ranges for serum lipid concentrations during pregnancy and effects of L-T4 treatment on serum lipids in pregnant women with SCH. Designcohort study.MethodsA analysis of 20365 women in the first trimester was conducted at Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, Capital Medical University during 2018–2020. After excluding women with adverse pregnancy outcomes, we determined the reference range of serum lipid in the first and third trimesters of pregnancy by using median and quartile to determine appropriate percentiles. Next, we divided into three groups as follows: SCH L-T4 treatment group (n=319), SCH non-intervention group (n=103) and the control group(n=9598).ResultsThe recommended reference range for serum lipids in the first trimester of pregnancy should be: TC < 5.33 mmol/L, TG < 1.73 mmol/L, LDL-C < 3.12 mmol/L and HDL-C> 1.1 mmol/L, and in third trimester of pregnancy should be: TC < 8.47 mmol/L, TG < 4.86 mmol/L, LDL-C < 5.3 mmol/L and HDL-C >1.34 mmol/L.There are significant differences in TC and LDL-C levels between SCH treatment group and SCH non-intervention Group (P=0.043, P=0.046; respectively).ConclusionsWe determine the recommended reference ranges for serum lipid concentrations during pregnancy. TC and LDL-C levels in pregnant women with SCH could improve after L-T4 treatment.

Dyslipidemias are a group of disorders characterized by abnormal blood lipid levels, which can present with a different course and impair significantly the quality of life. In recent years, the disease has had a peak in its incidence being an entity poorly treated in clinical practice; thus, the purpose of this intervention was to create an awareness campaign in Instagram to educate the community about this condition. As a result, 20 posts were created, and an overall engagement of 112 followers showed that the objective was successfully achieved, and it is a growing area for extensive research in the context of future prevention and treatment.

The objective of this study was to analyze the dynamics and differences of changes in obesity-defining parameters such as body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), total cholesterol (TC), tricarboxylic acid (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in representative samples from the US and South Korea in analogous sampling frames comprising the years 2007 - 2008 and 2009 - 2010. Differences in anthropometric parameters and serum lipid levels between specific sampling frames were evaluated using a t-test for unpaired data. Age-dependent changes were analyzed using the GLM technique and the Bonferroni-Dunn post-hock test. Among all subjects, the obesity defined by BMI is cross-correlated with an increase in WC. However, in extremely obese women in the United States, there is a lack of a direct relationship between BMI and WC. There was also a clear correlation between the relative change in WC and serum lipid levels in subjects of different ethnic groups. This study showed that BMI and WC could be interchangeably used to assess the health risks associated with increased serum lipid levels in US and South Korean populations

Parent-of-origin effects (POE) and sex-specific parental effects have been reported for plasma lipid levels, and a strong relationship exists between dyslipidemia and obesity. We aim to explore whether genetic variants previously reported to have an association to lipid traits also show POE on blood lipid levels and obesity. Families from the Botnia cohort and the Hungarian Transdanubian Biobank (HTB) were genotyped for 12 SNPs, parental origin of alleles were inferred, and generalized estimating equations were modeled to assess parental-specific associations with lipid traits and obesity. POE were observed for the variants at the TMEM57, DOCK7/ANGPTL3, LPL, and APOA on lipid traits, the latter replicated in HTB. Sex-specific parental effects were also observed; variants at ANGPTL3/DOCK7 showed POE on lipid traits and obesity in daughters only, while those at LPL and TMEM57 showed POE on lipid traits in sons. Variants at LPL and DOCK7/ANGPTL3 showed POE on obesity-related traits in Botnia and HTB, and POE effects on obesity were seen to a higher degree in daughters. This highlights the need to include analysis of POEs in genetic studies of complex traits.

Background: Lichen planus (LP) is a chronic inflammatory disease, involving the skin, mucous membranes, hair, and nails. Cardiovascular risk factors have been assessed with some chronic inflammatory skin diseases such as alopecia and psoriasis. Recently, some studies found that lichen planus (LP) was associated with dyslipidemia. So we did this study to find this association in our patients. Objective: To evaluate lipid levels in patients with L.P and compare it with controls. Materials and Methods: This case- control study included 160 participators (80 with L.P. and 80 controls) admitted to dermatology clinic at Tishreen University Hospital, Lattakia, Syria, from 2020- 2021. Results: Cholesterol, triglyceride and Low- density lipoprotein (LDL) levels in patients were significantly higher than the control group; it was only regarding high- density lipoprotein (HDL) levels that no significant difference was observed between the two groups. Triglyceride levels were significantly higher and HDL levels were lower in patients with diffused disease. There was a recognizable correlation between elevated levels of LDL and cholesterol with disease duration. Conclusion: In this study, a disrupted lipid profile was observed in LP patients, which can be associated with disease severity. This study proposes measuring lipid serum levels prior to commencing the treatment in all known cases of lichen planus, so as to preclude cardiovascular diseases if there is a problem with the lipid profile.
