Effect of GGBS, Metakaolin and Colloidal Nano-Silica on Mechanical Properties of Concrete

Concrete is the most common used material for construction &their design consumes almost the total cement production in the world. The use of large quantities of cement produces increasing CO2 emission and as a consequence the greenhouse effect. A method to reduce the cement content in the concrete mixes is the use of GGBS, Metakaolin Nano-Silica. This project aims to present the state of GGBS, Metakaolin& Nano-Silica's effect on the workability and mechanical properties of concrete and to find out the economy of the experiment as compared to convential concrete. Concrete has occupied an important place in construction industry in the past few decades and it is used widely in all types of constructions ranging from small buildings to large infrastructural dams or reservoirs.. The Climate Change and Air Pollution

Environmental pollution states the toxification by different forms of pollutants in the surroundings. This causes the natural system imbalance and affects the life on earth in different ways. The emissions of pollutants into air result in climate changes. The rising levels of CO2 and other air-polluting gases increase the greenhouse effect which results in temperature elevations and affects global weather patterns. Bill Gates also warned “Climate change is a terrible problem, and it absolutely needs to be solved; it deserves to be a huge priority”. Though climate change and air pollution are closely linked, these are treated as separate problems. Hence, it is aimed to understand the aspects of association between climate change and air pollution in this chapter with the objectives: (i) To know the basics of climate change and air pollution, (ii) To review the active background studies on climate change as well as on air pollution, (iii) To identify the issues, controversies, problems which include the effects of global warming and greenhouse gases followed by the types of air pollutants and its harmful effects, (iv) To find the solutions and recommendations, the discussions are made on climate laws and policies, (v) To retrieve, analyze and store the climate change related information, the description about models, tools and databases are given, (vi) To have a flawless insights on the association of climate change and air pollution, (vii) To exemplify species indicators for the assessment of the effect of air pollution on climate change are also included. Methane emissions from the mines belonging to the Hunedoara Energy Complex

Methane emitted by the hard coal mines in operation in the Jiu Valley coalfield is under study in order to find out the most suitable solutions that increase occupational health and safety and at last, but not in the least, to capitalize the power generating potential of it. From the point of view of occupational safety, methane displays the highest risk because it can give birth to an explosive mixture with the air and the coal dust. Methane discharges into the outer atmosphere have a negative impact, increasing the greenhouse effect, with serious consequences over the parameters of the climate. This paper focuses on the use of mine gas in three important stages: solutions for the use of methane discharged by central degassing stations for power generating purposes; development of the network for the drainage of gases and increasing the volume of recovered methane; solutions for the use of CH4 from the general ventilation.

CO₂ emissions of an asphalt pavement in kg of CO₂ per m2

Climate change is one of the world's major problems and concerns the entire human population as its effects are global in scope. Climate change is driven by the greenhouse effect, which is generated by greenhouse gases (GHG). The construction industry is important in the development of a country, both economically and culturally, since it is through it that the infrastructure needs required for a nation's economic and social activities are met. Urban environments are composed of various structures that favor economic, social and any other activities of interest within the existing population; such urban environment is mainly connected by a system that is constituted by asphalt pavements of flexible or rigid type. This project analyzes the environmental impacts generated during the construction process of an asphalt pavement corresponding to the Real de Sevilla III subdivision, located in Obregon City, Sonora, Mexico, applying the Simapro 9.0 Software, obtaining a result of 12.618 Kg CO2 eq/m2 and 1,140, 863.493 Kg-CO2/fractionation generated by its main materials and activities and equipment consumptions.
